Hi all,

wondering if someone can tell me how to properly adjust the cam chain tension on a 77 xs500. I can't seem to find much about this particular tensioner.

Thanks in advance!

Gregor

New XS500 owner.

I assume they are auto matic like the xs400's of the time

Hi Gregor,

You can adjust the cam chain tension as follows (from the '77 supplementary service manual):

Locate the tensioner locknut on the right-hand cilinder (bottom):

-keep the engine idling for about two or three minutes

-loosen the locknut about two turnes while idling

-the chain tensioner will slide into the proper position

-tighten the locknut to secure the tensioner position and stop the engine

-repeat every 3000km or 2000mls
