  1. sometimes you dont know, that you dont know.....then you fuck up....and now, you know.....lol

    96 virago 250

still playing with carb to get a smooth run, getting closer and closer........

here's what my dumbass did today....

wasnt running as smooth as it has......pulled the plug that has been having some issues.....did it while the engine was hot.....didnt use a ratchet extender and the slight angle from the ratchet hitting the engine head was enough of an angle to fuck the threads up while taking the plug out.....

to make it worse.....i was at a friends house 30 miles away with no way home....sooooooooooooooo.....yeah, i did it....put it back in...and of course now, once i take it out again, theres no way it will go back....i realize that by putting it back in with a little muscle i was destroying what threading was still there....but, i had to get home....so i said fuck it....

ok.....when your done either laughing at me, or shaking your head at my fuck up......my question is this....

do i need to pull the entire engine apart to deal with it or can i just re-tap it as is?

i realize that some aluminum bits and pieces will no undoubtedly fall into the cylinder......how much damage will that cause? will they be small and fine enough that they will just burn up? possibly just stick a vacuum hose into the chamber....suck out what i can...run it to burn off the small ones, change the oil...and thats it?

im brand new, so these are the mistakes that are teaching me about engines....please be gentle....my friends have the name calling covered as they have been brutal....

    thanks

  2. well ive fitted the bracket and attached the screen, im chuffed how cool it is

i took it onto the motorway to test and lets just say that its very stable and cuts through the air defleting the wind over me like it should... job done

if only i knew how to add a piccy!!

  3. ii think like many middle-sized 4 cylinder bikes, they do a tendency to be a bit buzzy. Check the footpeg mounts are correctly tightened-up. You could get the carbs balancing checked, might have some effect.

I just think it is a trait of this model. I never found it to be too much of an issue, the buzz-band being quite narrow so i just tend to ride around it.

If it really frustrates you may have to consider a different bike. :(

check the linky in my signature too.... :D

  4. ive designed a nice 'U' bracket which will bold onto the frame under the dash and connect with the screen, im really impressed with it!

all i have to do now is give it the DT guy at school and get him to manufacture it to the same spec.

    re: the official flyscreen

it only has a small lip of a couple of inches, hardly worth over £100 and will hardly deflect much wind (in my opnion)

Glad your DIY effort is working out.

I had the Yam flyscreen on my xj6n, it was very, very good at deflecting the wind over me (8 hour days on the autobahn/autostrada/m-way at 85mph bears testament to that). The quality of it however was not that good though.

I'm generally not into manufacturer accessories, but it was worth every penny.

  5. Here is a slightly better price:

    http://gardug.com/cart/index.php/Yamaha/XJ6-Diversion-09-/Yamaha-XJ6-Diversion-09-Ermax-Seat-Cowl/p_50.html

I think I might of got it but still cant get it confirmed, the colour might be called Anthracite Grey!!

My XJ is the same as this one:

    http://www.phmotorcycles.co.uk/bikes/yamaha/yamaha-xj6-2010.html

I'll post some pics as soon as I have spare time haha

So if anyone can still help or confirm as it's hard to find it!!

i had a quick look on the ermax / motoevolution site [the makers of this cover [i think]]

its listed as graphite, why not give Ermax a call they would know for certain or would probably email you colour-sample pictures to match up.

  6. Theres been a speight of bike thefts recently around the bay, mainly off/on road bikes mind, infact my dog barked at someone trying my sidegate just the other night,at 2.30am, but they ran off, when I got downstairs. I'm in KK btw, mind you I've got a surprise in store for them if they do decide to come back mind, the little b*st*rds. I'll keep my eyes out for Freezes bike, he'll need to keep an eye out on ebay for parts being sold, I dare say!! Doubt plod has been much use? except to supply a crime number for his insurance.

Bloody hell, i live in a rough part of bristol [which, touch-wood has seen much less bike thefts in the last 3/4 years] and i am surprised you are experiencing problems in Kingskerswell, it always looks quite quiet to me.

  7. hmm, interesting one.

The unfaired version i had previously had 'silver' seat side-panels, whereas the 'S' version i now have has colour-matched panels.

Can you post up a photo, might help.

btw thanks for the link that is a ruddy good price.

also check out the linky in my sig Thunor. :)

  8. Fair play, pilninggas, appreciate your response, and maybe I got overdefensive also, but due to a few, *rseholes trying to buck the system, many genuine people do tend to get tarred with the same brush, so to speak, and yes the government is right to root the bad ones out,it's just that some genuine people are also paying the price, you read about it every day.

NEV, no problem, after i posted it i wondered if it might be mis-interpreted. The guy was just so funny, he had no idea of how to handle himself professionally or socially. It was nothing to do with his illness, just his idiosyncrasies.

She did manage to show him how to handle himself in the end, he was motivated by his daughter getting employment and got himself a job.

  9. Not too sure what point your trying to put over here pilninggas, I think you're trying to make out that people with diabetes are malingerers? well I too have diabetes, fair enough, not the type where you have to inject yourself every day, but I do have to take 3 blood tests, everyday (myself) to check it doesn't get too high, and also take a shit load of medication for it. Mine comes with it's own leg ulcer (see pics) that doctors seem a little concerned about, as if it gets much worse, there may be a possibility I'll have to have an amputation below the knee, great ey? but not to worry though, as I can have my car/bike converted so I can still drive, the only thing I've got to worry about is not doing very well in arse kicking competitions.

"Ah but you probably brought it on yourself" I hear you say," bet he gets through 5 big bottles of coke, 3 or 4 cakes, pizzas, numerous packets of crisps, all day and everyday" .........nope!!! I contracted mine through having to take very strong steroids, for a blood disorder called ITP, (google it, basically it's very similar to Leukemia, infact I've been having chemotherapy, as treatment for it)

I won't even bother go on in detail about the 3 previous heart attacks I've had, only to say you don't get a sign grow on the top of your head, saying so, just 3 large scars on your heart, that you can only see with a scanner. Plus the stent they inserted into a main artery there.

But I probably would agree, that if you were to see me working on a bike, you'd probably think " theres f*ck all wrong with that bloke"

Theres an old adage about not judging someone till you've walked a mile in their shoes, trust me you wouldn't want to be in my size 11's right now.

Still laughing yourself silly? My biggest weakness? take yer pick

Definitely not having a go at diabetes, far from it.

If you were interviewed and asked what your weaknesses were, you'd trot out the 'never leave work on time', 'do to much' etc, whatever it takes to get the job. At no point would a medical ailment be something either given in the answer or expected by the interviewer. It was just he didn't know what to say and for some obscure reason felt that was appropriate to say.

To be fair he had no idea what to say or how to act at interview until she had pointed him in the right direction and bore no relation to any illness he had.

I found it funny for the reason that it was a totally outlandish answer that was not what i (or she was expecting), if it caused offence well i apologise, i don't find diabetes funny.

  10. Not a term often used where the Gas are concerned!

"One for the Bristol City, two for the boys in red, three for the fans down Ashton Gate, we'll follow till we'm dead!"

I live in South Bristol, can't stand City though, Gas through-and-through.

  11. Watching this now on C4.

The Fairy Jobmother was doing a mock interview with a middle-aged, long-term unemployed fellow:

Fairy jobmother: What is your biggest weakness?

[the bit in an interview where you respond to the interviewer by saying that your weakness is going to work to early, taking work home, enjoying meetings; the usual bull]

Middle-aged fellow: My biggest weakness, hmm, my sugar diabetes.

    :D

I laughed myself silly, sugar diabetes, wtf?

  12. Nope, you will have to make up a complicated mounting for it

+1, sadly you have baought a screen which integrates into a fairing rather than a flyscreen.

Package it back up and send it back.

Both your Yam dealer and Givi do a nice flyscreen for the unfaired XJ6N.

  13. I would be interested. Maybe also a annual Squires one with a year on too.

If the design is finalised with squires in mind, can some one email it to me. That way i can design the 2011 Squire's Key Ring to match. :)

  14. Hi everyone, I'm new to the Yamaha Owners Club having recently passed my test and bought a 2002 Thundercat.

Bike is lovely BUT it's just developed a problem with the rev counter.

Issue is as follows:- Rev Counter now revs to 8K only(on the clock but bike rides ok)and drops back to zero and does this regularly before showing the right revs for a short time then dropping to zero again. Also I have noticed the needle moves to 1K and back to zero. When it does this zero to 1K range the bike has a minor hicup(a sort of miss or jolt).

HELP Please anyone got any idea's of what the problem could be as it's now becoming a pain.

    Cheers

Floyd, make sure you go to the newbies section and do a full intro...we like the noobs to do this.

As for your problem, i'd sy 90% that is a TPS fault. Loads of Yamahas do this is to show either the TPS [throttle position sensor] is either out of calibration or is faulty. Don't worry that is anything to stop you using it - it's just one less signal for the ECU to read and make adjustments too.

This would also link to the hiccup you are experiencing, though that could be something else.

  15. To me, this is a very strange way of calculating value. At best it would be "book value" minus what they can screw you for. Unless of course you get an "agreed value" policy. Insurers nowadays seem to want a list of the minor changes and then give you a policy that states "back to original spec" I would be very careful as one change not mentioned to the insurers could make your policy null and void.

I agree with Dirty, you really need 'agreed value' on this. Here's an example, one of my mates is storing someone elses streetfighter a Yamasuki GSXR/Bandit/R1 hybrid. The value of it to the 'guy on the street' is £2000k tops. It's a good in places and utter rubbish in others. The guy who built it though had a one off shock mount made, which mates the R1 swingarm to the GSXR1100 frame, which is multi-adjustable and shiny (maybe cost £600-700). The whole bike looks like it has cost a lot (the guy who built it reckons £15000, i think maybe £8-£9k). If he has standard bike insurance, even if he declares the mods he would get 'guy on the street' book value £2Kish. If he has agreed value, which will require haggling when the policy is started [maybe proof of reciepts, def. photos], he will get the Streetfighter value, between 7K-15K [or whatever).

  16. Hi there,

I'm relatively new to these pages so a big hello to you all.

I've got a 2009 XJ6 and was interested to know what others have done about the exhaust. To date all I've done is drill a hole through the end and this has made a slight inprovement to the sound.

    What have others done?

Anybody out there used 2002 R6 down pipes and worked from there?

What about some of the full systems on offer? What have you had done and how much did you pay?

Really keen to hear about others as I'm I'm going crazy trying to decide what to do?

    Thanks KW

The R6 downpipes that fit are from the 03-05 model. They require a limited amount of denting to clear the bikes sump [not visible once fitted].

Lots of stuff has been done to the exhausts of these machines now.

    There are a few options:

-Mod the stadard system; everything from what you have done, to chopping the cat/silencer off and welding up.

-Replacing with R6 headers and generic can, something i did on my first XJ6 and will look to do again on the one i have just bought.

-'end can'; £150-£270 will buy a small can that bolts on to the exit of existing system and sits [typically] near the peg bracket.

-Full systems; from £500 ebay.it for a termignoni to £1200+ for carbon TBR etc.

The last is easily the best option, but very, very expensive. Of course 1 and 4 really require the fuelling to be checked and modified and for the O2 sensor to be neutered.

  17. I think this may be a yes but ,will the headers (down pipes) from a R6 fit a XJ6 2010????

yes 03-05 5SL headers will fit with a bit of gentle 'dinting' so they clear the sump on the XJ6.

  18. Picked up the new XJ6 yesterday :thumb: , was a mad day..my mate was picking up a new Hayabuse [jammy beggar] from the same dealer and chopping in 2 bikes. So i rode his FZ6 up and brought my XJ6 back. Was all a bit worrying as he had out-of-date paperwork and it was all a bit touch and go for him :eusa_eh:

So glad to be back on an XJ6, like an old friend. It handles quite a lot better than the first one i had. Not too sure why, possibly that the fairing is just preloading the front suspension a bit more and making the rake steeper. :icon_cool:

We did a few miles as mine needed running in (Running in a hayabusa = supercar performance anyway so no biggy for him), but it seemed like every other vehicle we encountered wanted to take one of us out. I nearly got pinched up between a bus-stop and a silly bitch in the wrong lane, he nearly got taken out by an old-fart in a volvo. We both nearly got ran down by a chav doing a ridiculous overtake in a Saxo. :pissed-off:

All in all good though, forgotten how damn smooth these engines are....

    :cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

  19. If you look very closely at the scan, maybe by zooming your browser's window, you can just make out a the right hand gesturing revving a throttle and the left hand feathering an imaginary clutch! I think you have a future Yam rider there. :elephant::pregsmile:

All the best to you and your missus

  20. Always ride as if you really MEAN it!!!

In other words, get the best kit you can.

    Try these from Avon:

    Front tyres

    Storm 2 Ultra

    VP2 Sport

    VP2 Supersport

    Pressure front: 2.5 bar (36psi)

    Front size: 120/60ZR17 (55W)

    Rear tyre

    Storm 2 Ultra

    VP2 Sport

    VP2 Supersport

    Pressure rear: 2.9 bar (42psi)

    Rear size: 160/60ZR17 (69W)

As for pads - I always recommend the HH Sintered type.

Slightly more money than organic pads, but SO much better!

    :headscratch: surely 180/55?
