  1. my 1992 xv5352yl started coughing and spluttering dirt in the carbs I suspected some job to get them of even worse ive heard putting them back, anyhow I stripped them down cleaned everthing went to set the mixture screws two of them totally chewed to bits could not move them so ithought I will look at ebay etc see if I can pick up a fair price set of carbs as rare as hens teeth ,the only decent pair I saw was £249 but they had been rebuilt but the buyer said the front cylinder mixture screw was seized and could not be moved but he said its at factory setting and he said t they ran ok on the bike that he was breaking when I had my old 38 year old cm 400 I could get a set of carbs for under 40 quid canny believe its that kind of money for a 25 year old bike anybody want to swap a virago for a decent Honda cb400 superdream lol
  2. hi i have a 1992 xv535 virago ,i would like to swap the sidestand for a longer one anybody know if a stand from a later model which has a longer stand would fit my bike or one from a xvs dragstar i know the bracket may different but as long as the stand will fit
  3. hi i have a xv535 2yl with original handlebars ,i would like to try straight handlebars would i have to alter cables etc or will the just fit
  4. hi anybody fitted front fork gaiters ,I always fit gaiters to my bikes , what I need is the size of gaiter to fit my xv535 I would need the diameter of the uoter leg tube and the diameter of ,the inner tube and the length ,ive tried a cheap pair from e,bay but they were to tight and now have ripped any help appreciated
  5. hi it may have been asked before ,but will the wheels from an xv500 fit my xv535 the xv is an 1983 and my bike is an 1992 if they do fit would my existing tyres fit the alloy rims of the xv500 any advice gladly accepted
  6. hi I always pull the clutch in when I start the bike ,now when I let the clutch out its making a kind of a rattling noise ,its not really loud ,I had the csame sort of noise on an old cm 400 Honda I had and it ran fine is this maybe normal as the bike has not been run for a while because of the weather
  7. well the non resistor plugs have arrived bp7es now should I use the original caps or the new ngk ones both are resistor type but have different ohms
  8. the solution may be to use non resistor type plugs bp7es which I believe were originally used in xv535s
  9. hi cynic I'm still a bit puzzeled my owners manual the plugs are bpr7es now if that is correct it is a resisted plug and the original caps are resistor types too ,now the Haynes manual states the plugs are bp7es which are non resistor type puzziling
  10. I just unscrewed the inside of the original caps and there is a small ceramic resistor inside some say to take it out and replace with a piece of metal is it ok to do that or would it be best just to leave the original caps as they are
  11. meant TO SAY I PUT THE ORIGINAL CAPS BACK ON I TAKE IT THEY ARE THE NONRESISTOR TYPES
  12. hi cyncal have put non resisted plug caps back on bike started ok but then again it started ok with the resisted ones I'm not a dab hand with a multimeter but there was areading of about 9.200 ohms
  13. hi cynic that's the reading I got on the xv535 caps would it not be different on a dt I will go back and check but the new caps I got were ngk xb05sf-r
  14. anybody know the sparkplug cap resistance should be on a 1992 xv535 2yl ive got used coils and leads and they tested fine but would like to know if the caps resistance is important the plugs are ngk bpr7es
  15. thanks neversay I'm not to adept at using a multimeter but the old coils that's if I done it right showed a reading of 4.1 ohms whereas the new ones were 2.1ohms what do I set the multimeter at for secondary
  16. thanks for reply the rexspeed shop I could not finf my model listed ,so I bought a pair of coils from a dealer called yambits do you think they will be ok the ohms seem different ,thedealer says they are a quality replacement
  17. i have decided to put new coils ,on my bike its a 1992 xv535 2yl what are the best ones to buy aftermarket ones

  19. hi my spark plug leads are getting a bit brittle ,can I change the ht leads ,or do I have to replace the whole coils ,if I have to mchange the coils what ones do I get my bike is a 1992 xv535 2yl
  20. thanks for the welcome the bike is ok its been lying a bit so needs a wee bit tlc ,the collector exhaust box thing is on its way out ,I'm trying to locate a good second hand exhaust ,that does not have a collector box ,but don't want to rejet the carbs ,I thought I had seen the last of these boxes I had one on an old Honda cm400 that I had bloody nuisances ,I know a new one is about £194 black widow exhausts to dear for me

  22. i take it the only way to check your oil level is through that wee window its very difficult to tell ,I don't suppose there is any other way
  23. aye the tester ,your right round the block and a couple of questions that was it you have probably heard this before ,but wizshed I had kept my brit bikes ,the last brit bike I had was a bsa spitfire I'm trying to remember other ones ,ariel leader .c15 ajs hurricane I think it was called , a triton featherbed frame t120 engine a velocette I love big singles bsa a7 shooting star its called I think starfire 250 and a triumph speed twin happy days how old are you slice
  24. hi my name is Fergus ,I'm from Falkirk ,Scotland I'm 68 years old ,and passed my test in 1967 I have a 1992 xv535 I like fishing camping etc ive had various bikes over the years ,but its funny you can always remember your first bike ,mine was a ariel leader ,I passed my test on a bsa c15 and had an assortment of bikes some I liked ,some I didn't ,ive just traded in my royal enfield thunderbird ,for the virago ,I'm quite pleased with the bike ,and these forums are really good .at helping ,with problems etc
