  1. Hello all. After a long struggle to get my DT back together, I am stuck on the wiring. So far I have everything in place but am unsure of how everything hooks back up. While I originally wanted all electrical working, I am at the point of just wanting it hooked up enough for spark. I do have a wiring diagram but it looks totally confusing to me. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the very minimum I need working for spark. I figure if I can get it running, I can go back later and work out all the other details. Thanks!
  2. Yeah I looked through a lot of different companies. I was just talking about getting the ID right with the worn shaft and the deciding on the tolerance. Then also either press fit or not. Thank you for your link, it was a helpful push in the right direction.
  3. I've had bikes that needed shims which were no longer available and impossible to find in the right sizes. There is a company based out of australia that will custom make shims of any size and thickness. I think theyre called Precision Shim. The price wasnt all that bad considering I didnt have much of a choice. I think I paid $70 shipped for 4 shims. Not too bad considering what shipping was.
  4. I think it would be real hard to get the sizing correct.
  5. Those would be prefect. Im thinking either bore out the hole on the plate to slightly smaller than the OD on the correct size and heat press it in. Either that or tig weld one to the existing plate if possible. Hard weld though. Any ideas? Also, were could I get some of those bushings?
  6. I checked out the splines and they are in decent shape. Shift level locks on there pretty good. Im trying to think of some way to get it stabilized but I don't think it will be a simple task
  7. Thanks Cynic. Looks like that would totally fix my problem. I was thinking it would be great to press fit some sort of bushing in there. Seems like they thought so as well. Sadly, a broke college student cant afford $130 to fix it... Il look into maybe rigging up something myself. A bushing of some sort maybe. Anyone got an idea?
  8. Hey all, I'm in the process of doing a full resto on a 1974 DT175. While I had all the crankcase split, I replaced all the seals in the engine with new ones. Weird thing is that they didn't include the shift shaft oil seal. Not a huge deal, I can find one somewhere for a few bucks. What I'm concerned about is the amount of play in the shift lever. It has an odd linkage were it basically pivots in a hole in the crankcase. It seems to have a ton of play. Like, it moves an inch up before in actually starts to engage the mechanism. I dont think its the play in the linkage, I believe its the play in the seal around the shaft/the hole the shaft rests in. Sorry for the confusing description but has anyone had this problem?
  9. Slice, thanks for your help. Thats exactly what I found it to be. I wasnt aware that was possible, a battery to go bad so suddenly like that. I took it to the auto parts store to have them run a load test on it and it failed right away. Thanks again.
  10. Sorry I forgot some good info in my orig post. I checked the battery voltage and got around 13v. I have an analog multimeter so it doesnt go too precise. Battery is new, been on a tender, inside, and it started the bike recently. An interesting detail about the battery is that the meter went to almost zero when I turned the key. I dont know if that indicates anything/abnormal. Connections are spotless and super tight. And bike totally dead. No anything when key is turned.
  11. Hello all, please give me your advice on this problem I just had. So heres the story: Bike: 2007 FZ6 It was really nice out today and I decided I would throw the battery in the bike and have a spin. It was lightly winterized with a full tank of gas with stabilizer and battery removed. So today I did what I always do, put the battery in and then buttoned up all the fairings. I turn the key and it lights up like normal. I dont think I heard the fuel pump pressurize but I wasnt really listening for it. I flip the kill switch to on and hit the starter. Right as I hit the starter I think I heard a light click noise and then it all went dead. No power at all. I checked the main fuse as well as all the others and they where fine. Even switched out the main with the spare. I have no ideas as to what it could be as it ran before I winterized it. It literally sat untouched, in the garage, under a cover. Anyone have anything? I would really really like to get it going soon as the weather is nice for the next day or so before its below zero. Thanks!
  12. Hey, do you have any advice for getting into one of these without mangling it? And a good way to get it back together?
  13. Hello everyone. Just introducing myself to everyone. As of now I have a 2007 FZ6 and am currently doing a full rebuilt of a 1974 DT175 Enduro. Should have it done within a few months. I will be asking around for advice on various parts of that project and I am sure I will have other things to talk about as well. Thanks!
