  1. Both sets of Mikuni CV carbs on both TDMs leak - hook up start the engine & fuel starts to drip out of the overflow withing a minute or two, have changed float valves with 0% sucess in solving the problem both floats move freely & carbs have been cleaned have crudely adjusted float heights again with 0% sucess what ever is done seems to make no difference at all - now it's a pain in the ar*e connecting then disconnecting every time so here's the question and don't shoot me down if it's idiotic, carbs are a feckin mystery to me can I measure the float height with the carbs off the bike ? Now I've tried the tilt and measure method and just can't see clearly when the valve just closes and no more so my thought was tubing from the drain marked up in mm, a remote suply direct to the carbs then I can have them on the workbench with a fuel suply and be able to measure the heights as per the manual. would this work if not why not ?
  2. MZ 125 ETZ first and only 2 stroke - started easy could almost push the kickstart by hand & it'd would rattle it's way up to 60 & then as the 20mile comute went on got slower & slower & slower until 30 flat out was all that i'd do dorve me mental & spent many an hour parked up waiting for it to cool, the journeys became split in to 4-5 mile sections or the KWAWASAKIKI GPX600 with chronic carb icing with was plain lethal in the cold - nothing nothing nothing waaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh all the power in one dollop
  3. not much action other than the change of plan, decided to keep the stolen recovered as a standard bike & turn the old red (which had been designated a source of spares) into the modified item. Body work off to reveal the true horror of the wiring - decided front end swap, repaired wiring, fettled carbs & yet to be decided other mods Modified version of the modified YZF front end provionaly fitted onlt to find the suposed TDM steering stem - isn't but removed all the TDM wheel hardware & fitted a 17 YZF front pictured next it's stable mate - should really put weed killer on those weeds as well before photographing
  4. tidied up with new indicators, replacement lockset & with new shock YZF front end pics

  6. in the van just after being recovered [url=http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/valentinedrew/media/IMG-20140418-00029_zps01b0a8d8.jpg.html][/url
  7. 24k miles + a spare with 33k miles - ran my first TDM up to 75k before selling - supermoto look but keeping the classic Tedium shape is sort of the plan
  8. searching for the holy grail of the perfect mod with 0% hassle - not entirely convinced by the YZF solution but had been offered at a very good price - also toying with the idea of SV1000 rear end, no bracing very chunky looking and will take a 180 rear & as I already have the SV I can take some measurements
  9. I agree that'd help - will sort that out
  10. Looking at possibilities for a TDM project - one option that's come up is a YZF750 braced swingarm - 850 isn't rising rate suspension so the linkages would be ditched & a mount would need welded on, however there isn't the space on top so would it be stupid to assume I could just flip it over so that the brace was underslung father than over ? obviously the underslung caliper would become over - is there some obvious reason that that wouldn't work ? potential problems that I can see would seem to be the run of the chain & possibly the rear brake (instead of pulling against the torque arm would be pusting it - is that an issue ? ) answers on a postcard please
  11. my project TDM morphed into my stolen recovered TDM project thanks to some local scrotes. To do list included new lock set new tank paint & repair body work replace shock (was worn out anyway) sort brakes get running & replace corroded OE exhaust. So far New tank in the correct colourscheme sourced, replacement lockset fitted, EMC shock fitted, carbs still being fettled but new emulsion tubes fitted. Last week the project took an unexpected turn, while trawling ebay as is my want on a Sunday evening saw a YZF750 front end conversion which contained a set of YZF USD forks which had been extended, Bepsoke fabricated yokes to accept both the TDM steering stem & the YZF forks, R1 Blue spot callipers & a TDM front wheel. Monkey see monkey want, so had to buy. On closer inspection the front wheel arangement was shoddy at best , wheel spindle was neither YZF (22mm) nor TDM (17mm) & very heath robinson in it's arangement. Have now managed to source a YZF750 front wheel with spindle, speedo drive, spacers & mudgaurd. Next step to see if everything aligns and fit to the bike ...........................................
  12. Found out it's too wide & needs a good amount of fabrication & welding to fit - not worth the hassle to go from a 150 to 160 section tyre
  13. This may be the first of many technical queries - I'm looking for details for Thundercat rear end width of rear wheel at hub ? width between across rear wheel from Sprocket to disc, whidth of rear swingarm at widest point (the innerface of the swingarm) any pics of rear wheel mounting calliper mounting & general set up. I wanted to see if by measurements it would possibly fit a 1991 TDM 850
  14. Just joined - not new to bike forums though. Bike of the moment is stolen recovered TDM850 3VD project - so many yamaha related questions
