  1. de-baffling may cause performance issues, then might need re-jetting ect ect

That was one of my main concerns, but i am only talking about taking the pea shooter out and most of the people i have spoke to say it should be fine.

sorry i should have already mentioned that fact.

  2. right so you want to slap on a set of "universal" end pipe yes? not but the full set of proper after market ones?

If you are going down the cut the pipes and slip on route your best bet is to get a sleeve made up and make sure you can still fit the heat sheld so it looks the same.

as for the buying of after market ones there is no cutting etc involved just un bolt the old and bolt on the new.

Hey you have just given me an idea mate, do you know where i could get a full set of pipes from ? That would save me fecking about.

  3. what do you call a dear with no eyes?

    me neither :D

Hey I meant ask your neighbours (the ones next to you) how to make your bike LOUDER ;)

Yeah i new what you meant mate, i was being sarky :babyha: they have suggested taking the baffles out, so thats what i`ll do me thinks. I have already drilled first 4 then 6 holes in each pipe, and it does sound a lot better. So i think i will go the whole hog and gut em.

    EDIT: BLIND

  4. Hey duki, how about you ask your neighbours for advice :D

Already done that my mate, what i need is one of them metal hole saws and i can get it done then. Hey thinking about it you are a neighbour generally speaking, so come on i am all ears. :spin2:

  5. Hi good people,

I have a question regarding the down pipes on my bike. The thing is i want to install some slip on exhausts, and after looking at the ststem yesterday to get measurments etc, i noticed the rear pipe behind the heat shield is a lot narrower than the front pipe.

How could i install after market pipes, when there is a noticeable difference in the pipes diametres ?? So to sum up, the front pipe just looks like it could be chopped and a slip on installed, but the rear pipe behind the heat shield is too narrow.

It has got me baffled, if you would excuse the pun, and i would love to hear your good feedback.

    Thanks in advance,

    Terry.

  6. look like they don`t make for xvs 125. just oil filters. I wait for mine in a few days but is for 950

Yeah thanks for your reply, i have seen that the oil filters are readily available and don`t understand why they don`t do air filters. :shakeno:

  7. Hi guys,

Just wondering if any of you know if there is a k&n air filter for the xvs 125 ? I have done a few searches and it seems like you can get the k&n for most models of bikes including the xvs, but not the 125.

    :eusa_think: Thanks in advance,

    Terry.

  8. still the best looking of the small cruisers

    2 tips

    1) keep top side of the cleaning and maintenance, you'll get a good price when you sell it it on

    2) dont have a bunch of keys hanging out of the ignition switch, they'll swing and chip the tank paintwork

    Enjoy :thumb:

I agree mate, miles better looking than the intruder which i part exed. And as for the keys, I don`t do bunches-just ignition, and disc lock keys.

Cheers. glad the weather is picking up now. :spin2:

  9. ow do dukilad, Oldham here... lived and worked in the hell that is Tameside for many years.

  10. Hi all my name is Craig.

I am one of the L plate bikers stuck doing 50 mph holding up some traffic

But tuff I enjoy riding my ybr custom 125. I am currently waiting till I'm 24 so I can get my full license to which I can't wait to obtain. If you would like to no more visit my profile later just to give me chance to edit it.

    Howdy

  11. Slow down a bit

    Get the bike first

Ride it around, get to know it

If, aftre a while, you want to change the pipes, then do, but there's nowt worse than buying a bike then stripping it for some reason or other, then having hassle to get it going right again, it''ll put you off if your'e not mechanically minded.

Thanks for the advice nsd, actually that is what i plan on doing. I won`t touch anything for a while, but if one day i fancy giving the bike a bit more throat, well at least i now know what pipes to get etc (thanks to you guys) and to be honest i will let my local bike shop (steve ives) fit them for me. lovely fella he is. :-D

  12. Hi Terry,

3 fails :eusa_think: im sure you have 4th in you, just relax but not too much as at 53 im sure some bits are already relaxed too much ha ha

As for those pipes yes they will pass an MOT as long as they are not stupidly loud, my bike is about 94-96db and she passed the MOT, Legal wise as long as they dont say "Not for road use" they are legal and will pass an MOT, there are laws for vehicle noise (think 100db is the limit) but its all down the the police officers discretion if to do you or not. If your at the lights revving the bollocks off it then your gunna get pulled, but your less likley to be pulled if your just plodding along at 20 in a 20 zone :biglaugha::eusa_whistle:

And yes the carbs will need to be rejetted, very easy to do if you can get the bastard screw out of the float bowls without rounding the heads off.

:biglaugha: Yeah i hear ya noise, and yep i learned a lesson that day and it won`t happen again. It was just that we turned into the 20 zone off a main road, and i didn`t see the feckin sign. by the time we came to the first speed bump, i new i had fucked up. But like i said lesson learned, and test failed :shakeno: but who knows maybe i will give it another crack one of these days.

  13. This is what your Highway Hawks will sound like

Thanks very much for that nsd, They do sound a lot better than stock pipes imo. A few questions---with this modification would it still pass an mot ? and would it de-value the price of the bike, Are they legal, and would i need to have the carb re-jetted.

Sorry for all the questions, but i am not mechanically minded, i can change plugs/oil etc but thats about me done mate, although i have got good biker neighbours who help me out when i get stuck with anything, which is most of the time lol.

I just love two wheels, and cruising about in summer (when we get em) is my idea of living. I am 53 years and as soon as i was old enough to get a machine i did. Dare i say it/or will i get shot LOL, a lambretta vega 49 cc. from then it was a lambretta Li, 150 re-bored to a 175.

I have to tell you After wrapping both these up (not my fault) I left 2 wheels alone for quite a while. Then i discovered Bikes and i love em, i won`t do the full history as i am guessing your eyes are glazing over right now. but just a bit of my history mate.

    good to know ya.

    Cheers -Terry.

  14. good god man you could have killed a child!

Little Timmy isnt coming home tonight, said goodbye to his friends and was walking home from soccer practice on that cold rainy night, he didnt hear you and now he's wrapped around your spokes, the parents are crying, the dad turns to drink and hangs himself whilst the mother blames herself for letting him out to play so late, she too turns to drink and ends up OD'ing on crack in a doss house on the wrong side of town...

just think of THAT next time you go for your test, then see if you do 30 in a 20 ;)

    point taken foamy.

  15. These Universal pipes are basically slip on's and will require you to cut the end cans off your pipes and slip / weld these ones on so they are great if your building a one off bike from scratch or very shit once you have them on your door step scratching your head trying to figure out how to fit them with out cocking up ye bike :biglaugha:

Are you going to do you big boys test?

Lol thanks noise, I think i will give them a wide berth then. I have taken my test two or three times and failed, not on anything serious, just silly things like left an indicator on/ doing 30 in a 20 zone/ and another time i went over the road markings at a junction coz they were worn away, Hardly visible.

So it was then i decided to just stay with 125`s as i am quite happy just pottering about for now, but you never know i may do my test again in the future. :eusa_think:

  16. As long as all the nuts and bolts are not rusted and seized solid then yes easy to fit, unbolt the old ones and bolt on the new ones.

Hi Duki, Pipes are a doddle to fit but thats as long as the nuts and bolts aren't fucked with rust (as campy said above) the hard part is to actually find a set of aftermarket pipes, item of this nature for the XVS 125 are like watching a rocking horse taking a golden shit. but so happens that there are still a few places that still do them £150 for the slash cuts plus P&P brings you to about £200ish http://www.customcruisers.com/Custom2005/customshop2005_copy/contents/en-uk/d1935.html

If you're keeping the bike forever, do what you like with it.

If you're planning on selling it when you get a bigger one, leave it alone. Bikes always fetch more money if you haven't fucked about with it, as modded bikes are limited by the specific taste of each individual buyer.

Thanks very much for all the info guys, I really appreciate it. What about the universal fitting pipes ? Any good or crap ? The ones i am talking about are the ones on e-bay.

  17. 'Aftermarket' is a term for anything you buy that isnt an option that you buy from Yamaha, and unless you can buy slashcuts/fishtails/e.t.c directly from yamaha you will be buying 'aftermarkets'

Thanks foamy, thats what i needed to know mate. :-)

Are the aftermarket pipes easy to fit ?

  18. The stock pipes are the best sounding on a small cruiser I ever heard, but its a personal thing

The Highway Hawk pipes sound a little harsh and give the game away a liitle thats its a 125

Drilling holes in the stock pipes might mean some furtling with the carb/might mean an MOT failure

Bear in mind that second hand stock pipes are rarer than an honest politician

In my view youve 2 options

    1) Leave the bike as it is, enjoy it for what it is, learn your roadcraft on it an pass your test, then move on to a bigger bike

    2) Buy some aftermarket pipes, keep the stock pipes for MOTs (undrilled), pass them all on when you sell the bike on after passing your test

Look after it and it will hold its price well

Thanks for your quick response nsd, so by aftermarket pipes do you mean like slashcuts, turnouts etc ?

  19. hi guys, I am getting a xvs 125 soon and i was wondering if it will be ok if i drill some Holes in the end of the pipes. My concern is will i lose any speed due to loss of back pressure, and/or will it cause any problems engine wise ?

If it may cause problems, i was thinking maybe i could get some turnout pipes or slashcuts, but again, would i have any probs if i fitted these types of exhaust. ie when it comes to the mot ??

    A massive thanks in advance-Terry.
