  1. I swapped the ones on my 1400 as hated a big bike sounding like a mouse farting and love the sound. After an assessment I did with a copper he said "your pipes are loud but not offensive, so I wouldn't pull you for them". I do find in town with pedistrians a quick blip of the throttle causes less agro than hitting the horn and still warns them not to step off the pavement. Luckily for MOT it's down to the discretion of the tester nowdays - and my tester is deaf as a post!

    MOT fail ?

From http://www.motuk.com/Motorcycle%20MOT.asp The FOOTRESTS must have an anti-slip surface Although http://www.motuk.co.uk/mcmanual_620.htm just says a missing or insecure footrest is a reason for failure. Personally, I've had metal studded pegs on my bikes for years and never had a problem.
  3. As a fellow Newbie, welcome Gasant. Whereabouts in SA are you? For my sins I spent almost 6 years in Bloemfontein on a contract.
  4. Thanks for all the welcomes! Thanks Sacha, I'll start a project thread, although there won't be much in there for a bit.
  5. Brilliant idea, thanks Airhead! Off to google on soldering nipples, that could be interesting.
  6. It got drunk a year ago, so I'll get some more of that in too
  7. I know this post is a few years old but I've run into the same problem. My oil cable is 11 cm as shown above and too short. Means the oil pump closes to about half way at a minimum - which probably explains why loads of smoke at low revs, way rich on the fueling settings and a different plug had been installed when I bought her. Yambits don't have the cable, Wemoto have but it measures 16cm which is too long from the photo above. Any ideas where I can get the correct one other than cmsnl? Cheers Grumpy
  8. A year and I've hardly done anything to Dotty, pressures of work (or rather the lack of) mainly and I haven't been on here in that time. So may I reintroduce myself properly? My first ever bike was a DT175F in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) that I bought from a mate when she was less than a year old and in immaculate condition. Learnt to ride on-road and off-road on her - normally sober but not always things were different back then. Actually my 'training' consisted of giving him a lift home after buying her and him talking me through the gears. Also had a CB750 for a while. Licence, didn't need one of those :-). Sold up in 83 to travel and was bikeless until I settled in the UK and bought the GSX in 2002 - after I got my licence. I've had various other bikes since then but have been on the hunt for a DT175 again for years but couldn't pay the premium they go for. I found a gem on the Bay of E and snapped her up. I have since been banned from the wife's eBay account though :-(. Anyway, the "cracker used regularly" turns out to be a real gem with repairs "bodged regularly" - so that's what I'm rebuilding now as I can. Front end done, carb mostly done (but will redo over winter), oil pump busy doing. Frame will get painted over winter. Enough rambling. Jump in quick, homebrewed cider is behind the bar.
  9. Thanks Airhead. Up on a stand at the moment with chain off as it was minging and waiting for my Putoline Chain Guard (no more Duckhams) to arrive. Will drop it and take photos tomorrow. Already been banned from even considering the hob for melting the wax on when it arrives - so may have to wait until the long-haired general goes out
  10. Hi all, picked up a 1979 DT175MX a week ago. Been after one for years to relive the joys of 2 stroke and wooden brakes and found a cracker in Cornwall. Everything matching, still ridden regularly off road but in very good condition. Bit of work to do but that can wait until winter, right now just riding her. Card's behind the bar best get in quick as it's almost broken from buying the DT! Grumpy
