  1. Spot on exactly how the sound of my fz6 sounds if it were to be put on paper.
  2. I know of classic bikes that have passed mot without any mirrors, and custom bikes with no mirrors. Not sure about modern bikes or scooters that came fitted with them originally. Doing a little research I found this, The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, regulation 33, item 5 in the table says no mirrors are required. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/part/II/chapter/E/crossheading/mirrors/made I'm no lawyer though, and I have noticed there are ammendments to the legislation, I haven't looked through them all to figure out if anything has changed. So I can't guarantee that this stands.. Best advice is to call a garage and just ask?
  3. I owned an xj600 divy and think I may know what ur experiencing. Is the oil coming out of the breather tube that runs back into the air box? And does it only leak out after you park up from a ride? Does the engine oil look creamy? And what year of xj600 is it? I had a 98 xj600 and it was air cooled engine, I used to do a lot of short commutes on it and what I found was that the engine wouldn't get enough heat in it over the 15min ride to burn off any water vapour that can result from condensation within the engine casing. But when I went for a long ride and parked up all this brown oil/water mix would pour out of the breather tube. When I looked in the engine the oil was all creamy so that was the signs of water in there (note it was air cooled so before anyone says it, it's not the head gasket as there was no water cooling..) The breather tube links back to the air box, and there is another breather tube going from the engine casing to the same box. What's meant to happen is that any vapour is meant to evaporate from within the engine and escape up the tube, condense in the air box and drop out of the other tube onto the ground. If your having similar problems I managed to fix mine by -changing the air filter (as the old one sucked anyway) -taking the air box and breather pipes (both one to engine and one to the open air) out and running a pipe cleaner down them (I found there was a lot of oil crud gathered within them which doesn't help the escaping vapour) -there is a t connector that joints the breather pipe to the air box, again run a pipe cleaner through it - put it all back together and finally go for a long ride to get the engine up to temp, a lot of crap may leak out but that's fine - now check the oil for signs of moisture (ie is it white or creamy?) it shouldn't be, and check the oil level (fill up as required) - after I did this mine ran perfectly with no further leaking, Hope this helps!
  4. Assuming its the usual 'clunk' it shouldn't do damage, my FZ6 is reaching 30,000miles and its still going strong clunking aside between 1st-2nd gear. I assume its to do with the operation of the gearbox as it doesnt do it through the other gears. I put Silkolene Fully Synthetic in mine and official Yama filter. An oil change can only do the bike good but it hasnt stopped the clunk on mine.
  5. I had a dive 600 as my first big bike, I loved it! Absolute tractor of a machine, reliable, plenty of pull low down and starts first time no matter the weather. Mine had 65000miles on her when I sold it and it was still going strong. Anyhow, the common traits with the divy that I found. At around 3500 to 4000rpm my divy vibrated, feels like the front fairing was going to rattle itself off. I did a lot of research and found that almost every divy rider knows about it, it's normal (assuming its not a violent vibration..). I tried to dampen mine out a little, reattached the front fairing with some rubber washers in place and it helped. But still a vibe, I just got used to it. Anyhow hope u enjoy
  6. Depending on the bike and pillion position, try to remember they are higher up than you when filtering especially past lorry or bus with high wing mirrors that you may fit under but pillion doesn't! I would definitely reiterate foamys comment on the c of g, a pillion raises the c of g up making the bike feel more twitch and unstable at slow speeds, you can't lean it like you would riding alone at slow speed so you will find yourself steering the bars more. Other than the great tips from the guys above I would just say find a road that's quiet and your comfortable with for that first time and enjoy
  7. Hi kearnsy, I also have a fz6 and the Yama clunk too! It's a reassuring clunk into first from neutral and a clunk from first to second. I did an oil change about 100 miles ago, gearbox still clunks. Reading many other posts it seems its just a trait of the fz6 gearbox. I find sometimes if I shift gently, ie low revs and do a slow smooth shift into 2nd from first it sometimes doesn't clunk.. Not much help sorry.. My advice, fit a nice exhaust to up the decibels and drown out the clunk
  8. Hey all, having been a keen rider for 3 years now I am looking to do my first track day, I have my 2 piece leathers now and I am just looking at which track to go to. I currently have an FZ6 so it should be great fun on a track, anyone have some experience of taking one on the track? Track wise I am looking at Castlecombe or Silverstone, silverstone looks more attractive with better facilities, better track with more space, not to mention for the same price you get more track time. But Castlecombe is a lot closer for me. Any one experienced on either or both that can give some advice? Lastly, I've been riding 600cc bikes for three years now, an xj600 diversion and an fz6, keeping this in mind I plan to book into a novice / beginner session, does anyone have any good advice for a track virgin?
  9. Yes definitely a personal choice, this is only one of the positions I have tried mounting the camera, i have a few more videos to upload of other positions (with less bike in the shot). I find you need to vary the angles through videos to keep things interesting. Can the police confiscate your camera without warrant? I know they can impound your bike if you have broken the law but is the camera part of the bike? Easy solution I guess is to not do anything that would give them a reason to stop you in the first place!
  10. Yeh it's the gopro 2, the video was filmed in 1080 at 30fps
  11. Hey all, due to the interest in my other video post regarding the camera / mounting I thought I would start a thread about camera mounting to Motorbike or Rider. I have been experimenting with where to stick the camera on my FZ6 and plan to make a series of videos to show where and how I mounted as well as the results. I would be interested to see your efforts too as I could use some more ideas! Heres the first of many to come: Mounting 1: Low Shot, GoPro mounted to the Center Stand using a Bar Mount
  12. Thank you very much for the info, I will look up these in google over lunch today
  13. Thanks airhead and blackhat, I think pilningas has already pointed out that he knew the road in my video that I posted in the videos board, lol, seems he knows his way around the area Nice to meet you all!
  14. Fair point, and I suppose I agree
  15. The contour does look nice and discrete, is the quality comparable to the gopro? The gopro has a massive assortment of mounts which is good but they do cost a lot for essentially bits of plastic!
  16. I would say so, I personally wouldn't overtake on a single carriageway with on coming traffic no matter the gap. But I am captain slow on my bike my fear again is all it would take is one of the cars not to be aware of you and swerve for a pot hole. I would have waiting for the car to pass first. What are you thoughts?
  17. I will look into this thanks, Though my intentions are not against this driver solely, but rather to all motorists driver or biker, to have a think before over taking a bike.
  18. Spot on pilninggas, I think it's just before star. Good road to ride normally, don't usually have people over taking especially when we're at the speed limit. Blackhat, the wind noise is usually pretty loud on these videos which is why I cut it out and put music over it. You can hear engine noise (depending on your exhaust I guess) up to about 50 or so. It comes with two case backings, one with open bits so the microphone picks up more, or one which is waterproof which is sealed and makes the sound more muffled. Generally the sound isn't great though. If you are particular about noise you can buy extras and plug in a better mic that works better with wind.. I have no experience of this though.
  19. Thanks blackhat, I try to be courteous but sometimes just can't help getting worked up. It's a gopro 2 that I used, think they are about £160 to £180 new now as the gopro 3 is out which is closer to £300! That was first time I had the camera on the bike. Here's more from that day, great camera, would recommend one if you like that sort of thing. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/2ua2bY1eIK0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  20. Hey all, just wanted to say hi as I have just joined the forum. I'm a Fz6 owner, and previously owned an xj600 diversion. Currently living in Bristol. If anyone's ever having a meet up in the area please do give me a shout.
  21. Hi everyone, im new to this forum but thought i would share a video from this weekend that i got from my GoPro. For about a 2 miles (riding at the 50mph speed limit) a white van had been tail gating me, I rode in a defensive position as you should to avoid encouraging an overtake unless they are sure they have the space. He then makes an overtake, breaking the speed limit and forces my friend to move over due to an oncoming car. It may not look significant but what if the car oncoming had to swerve to avoid something kerb side? What if the biker on the left had to avoid a pot hole? What if the biker nor the driver was paying attention to the situation? Luckily all was fine this time. Here is the video we caught during the incident, what do you think? I would like to hear other opinions as I am biased after being angered by the van driver tailgating me! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/WuX7Ms43-Os" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Please share your videos and experience of dangerous motorists if you have any Be Safe
