    It's ALIVE

Well worked on the bike this morning, got the bike running but now she's dumping fuel from all 4 carbs down the overflow tubes. Since the bike has been sitting for a looonngg time guessing float or needle seats are stuck. Any other spots I should check . Man don't want to take the carbs back off........... Afterr doing MORE searching realized the 2 5/16 "vent" lines where plugged into each other, hence no venting, which would be causing the backpressure in the carbs I'm guessing. Going to pull one off today and see if thats the issue, so much better the removing carbs.....who makes vent lines that big ????

    It's ALIVE

Last night it (the 83 XJ900) finally started . After sitting for about 10 yrs, it is rough but ran for about 5 minutes while Playing with the idle. Got a miss or two and got spark shooting out of the exhaust which is way to loud (guessing some rust etc). Choke cable was seized solid so thats off for now. Piece by piece....
  7. excellant bought new fuel line today so i'll go see if I can get it right , Thanks again
  8. Slowly getting the 83 XJ900 together, fuel tank repaired, painted and side covers painted with new petcock on the tank. What I need help with is when I got the bike nothing was hooked up. I need to know the routing of the fuel & vacuum lines. I have a CD manual but doesn't show me anything. Does someone have a diagram that would help me. Once thats done air filter and battery and we'll see what happens . Thanks
  9. excellant I'll give him a try Thanks
  10. Wow, come on guys , little help for a newbie. simple yes no will do. Fuel sending unit is missing all together also along with covers for battery and air filter need to be found. Did use search engine with no luck !!!
  11. Got the 83 Seca900 home today and my have my work cut out for me. Petcock is missing altogether, are these generic with 650 750 etc. look the same, bolt holes 45mm apart. I need to clean tank, change oil/filter, install a petcock then I'll see if this beast is worth keeping. Looks like a project.

    Cheap tyres

I work for Michelin, guess that'll be my choice if i can get the correct size for a 30 year old bike.

    1983 Seca900

I have pretty well bought this bike, getting delivered next weekend. Question I have is that all the pics I've seen of these bikes are red or white and have the wide grey swoosh on the tank and side covers. The bike I'm looking at is all black and just has yamaha in print on the tank. It doesnt look to have been painted or dropped and has 40000 miles on it. New here so haven't fiqured how to post a picture of it yet. Any input would be great. Thanks

    Seca 900

Hi , just getting back into the bike world after 20yrs. I have owned 3 Yamahas previously and found a 1983 Seca XJ 900. I know these are sort of rare and it needs a exhaust.. Will the exhaust from a seca 750 fit? I have been looking and its hard to fing one except on ebay where they are sort of generic 4-1 system. Any info would be helpful as I would love to rebuild this bike. Thanks in advance.
