  1. Hey Guys, I can't thank you enough for the information received which, along with the Scapa , gave me the confidence to attempt something way, way out of my comfort zone. I'm now fairly confident I would try this again so a big thank you. Obviously when I reattach the carbs to the bike and it won't run at all i'll be back on the same topic! I can now get back to finishing fitting my 4-1 on my XJ. All the best, Davie.
  2. Hi Blackhat, Thanks for the reply....and here was me congratulating myself getting the things back together and now you're telling me that there's more to it than that! Feck, feck feck! On the bottom of each float bowl is a screw which has a rubber seal and ends in a needle shape. Are you telling me that i should turn it back a bit? Davie.
  3. Hey Blackhat, In the glass is the brace fluid, Scapa, the Orcadian. Believe me it helps!!!!!!! O shit....what do you mean air screws? On the bottom there are screws which i presume are drain screws. They are horsed up to the max, the way I got them...... Help! Davie, going to get more Scapa!
  4. Hi Jimmy, Well will soon find out. I put the slider and fitted diaphragm in the freezer which helped. Now have finished article.........
  5. Right Here we are now, Tools required............. End result!!!! Woo Hoo! The diaphragm is not quite seated exactly. Does this matter? Really proud of myself. Shows what you can do if you take it by the balls. Davie.
  6. He, The official name for mine is XJ750 EII 29R Davie
  7. Thanks All, I am going to do it now......oh shit I'll let you know Davie.
  8. I would think you got a bargain regardless of the rarity. They're good bikes
  9. I do admit to having my eye on it....the seller seemed to be fairly hard on it in his description cos it looks mint! It was too far away from me thank God as i'm having enough problems with what I have now. I thought it was an import version of the xj900 pre diversion that my mate used to have but I had no idea they were mega rare!. Good for you, she looks great! I too have an odd 750 Yam. It's a 750 import that looks like a UK spec 650 Turbo. You'll see pics on various posts i've made so far. Look in the workshop section under exhaust advice needed pleeeease Great buy, great bike mate! Davie.
  10. Hey Blackhat, I still haven't been brave enough to try it! Would you believe it? I'll pour myself another half and putthe kettle on........ Davie.
  11. Hey Drewpy, That's just a line in ma table! The hole in the diaphragm seems to be much smaller than the gap between the two plastic parts in the slide. One of the guys at my work was wondering if the slide actually came apart to allow easy fitting of the diaphragm??? Blackhat, I think that must be the way forward so i'll give that a go tomorrow and if it tears then so be it! Thanks again all
  12. Hey Beef, Thanks for the reply........oh shit, i didn't know that made a difference so i'm in double trouble now! Davie
  13. Hey All, I'm now stuck! Can anyone please help? I need to fit the new diaphragm to the slide if that's the correct name?? I'm scared that i'm going to tear it or is there another way? As you'll see in the photo's.... Both parts.... Does this come apart to allow for easy fitting of the new diaphragm or do I need to simply stretch it to fit? Davie
  14. Hey, Hangover gone so now for some photo's After the tops are removed Look at the state of this lot! Do you think it's ok to steam clean this lot? Obviously would block off the bores.....
  15. Hey All, Well I brought thehe carbs home last night, put them on the kitchen table and pulled them to bits. I THINK i've seen the problem causing them to overflow.....on one of the outside carbs the wee thingymyjig that's attached to the float was basically not attached and lying free in the float bowl. Eureeka cries me! So I reattached it. EASY so far. Now I got to the knackered diaphragm..................Simple I think off with the old and on with the new one.......2 hours later, completely frustrated, the Missus is in a stinker of a mood cos the kitchen stinks of fuel and the FECKIN thiing's still not on. In frustration I have now consumed half of a bottle of nice Scapa Malt a customer gave me and chucked the whole lot in a plastic bag and gone to bed. Now, a 7.15am all I have to show for my endeavours is a smelly kitchen, a miffed woman and a hangover! Drewpy thanks for the instructions, i'll look at them later and post up some photo's. Cheers All!
  16. Drewpy, Sorry mate I missed that somehow?
  17. Airhead, Good point.....ahemmmmm Sounded a bit more exciting from the States though eh? I don't have the standard airbox unfortunately as friend of mine mislaid it
  18. Hi All, A little progress......but not much. I decided eventually that if i'm going to do this I might as well do it right so thanks to some welcome advice on here and a helpful link to an ebay seller I tried to get a carb repair kit for this bike but they all seemed to be for the earlier air cooled version. The ones that were available were mega expensive and as far as i can see anyway it's the diaphragm I need not really the rest. Anyway after emailing loadsa places I have to mention Z1 Enterprises in the States who sent me an incredibly kind and helpful email with a link to a UK firm called NRP carb parts or summat like that and they do supply new diaphragms for £30 not £78 plus VAT quoted elsewhere so thank you to them. Sorry for this long ramble but before I remove the carbs again I gave it a try again using some easystart and she went straight away!!!!! I am delighted. I'll post some pics when the carbs are off again. Cheers All.
  19. Hey Bennyboy, You still off the weed?
  20. Agree with above. Mate lost two fingers doing exactly that!
  21. Hey, Do you think white grease is any good? Davie.
  22. Airhead, Thanks again mate. Was talking to my mate last night and I think this is the way forward....the hole going in to the head is 8mm so I was going to try a 6mm drill bit and pray a wee bit and try to remove whatever is in there and hopefully reveal some of the original thread. Pipe dream maybe but you never know. If that's not successful then 8mm drill and get it retapped. I'm messing about with three bikes at the moment and really need to prioritise. The Yam's nearly there apart from this exhaust problem, then I have a new rear tyre to fit and that will be my running bike. I recently acquired a CBX750F. Had one years ago and have a soft spot for them but i'm get it painted pearl white at work and have a set of Castrol decals for it. Thoughts/comments? I also have the GPz 750 with the carb issues. Would you believe that one new diaphragm is about £70!!!!??? Also have my 350 YPVS LC2 lying at the back of the lock up in bits, doing nothing and deteriorating slowly. It's well beyond my skill level so I have a wee back street bike shop fairly local and was thinking of taking it to him and getting him to start a rebuild on a kind of pay as you go basis ie when i have a bit of spare cash give it to him and get him to do the hard bits. Again thoughts/comments welcome as always. Finally I have to say that this site is great, people are friendly and helpful. I was thinking of joining a Kawasaki forum for help with the GPz but got a fairly cold response so you guys are stuck with me!
