  1. Cheers for the reply, the engines been sat for a while so the rings seized to the barrel, the barrel looks to be fine with no scoring so I was just hoping to get a new piston.
  2. Hi, I recently purchased a seized MK3 DT125 engine that required me to drill holes in the piston to extract it so it's no longer useable. I measured it and got 55.84mm but from what I've read this is actually 56mm (standard size). Are there any differences between mk3 models and the later model pistons? Thanks, Ollie.
  3. So I've bought a load of loose bearings just to get the project going and I can make some rather more expensive investments when I move on a bit further. I'll let you know how they are when they come
  4. That's great drewpy cheers, I'm just trying to get a rolling chassis before I start investing money into it, so these can easily be changed at a later date.
  5. Thanks for the reply Preload, could anyone else confirm these are 6mm, they're only £3 for 100 but it'd save me some hassle
  6. Hi, I'm part way through building an XS250 but I'm struggling to find cheap bearings. The cheapest bearings I have found are 1/3 the price i paid for the bike and they are taper roller bearings. However since it's a low budget project I'm trying to source some loose bearings but cant find them anywhere due to me not knowing what size the bearings are, so if anyone could let me know what size bearings I need that would be fantastic. Thanks, Ollie.
  7. Yeah I wish they never put electric starts on them. Can't even test mine as the button's been removed.
  8. I couldn't either haha, It's a lot smaller than it seems! My plans are to keep her as original as possible, just clean up, get running and get it through an MOT. I'm currently spending a fair bit of time on my DT125LC so time is the issue. I've got the 30 year old battery on charge to see if it can be salvaged and keep the costs down, but I think a new one is in order. Ollie.
  9. Hehe tassle too! I despise these bars too but thought they where originals. Also have you got any pictures of yours? They seem to be rocking horse shite for spares
  10. Hi, I've already put this on BCF but thought it would be more interesting to you guys. I got this yesterday after an impulse bid secured me what I thought would be a big regret but after a bit of TLC it's come up pretty good and I don't regret it at all. It's only had 1 previous owner from the Isle of White and has been cared for pretty well by the looks of it. Everything is original and my aim is to keep it this way, keep the majority of the paint original and get it MOT'd in the near future. I bought it knowing it doesn't run but after having a quick look over it I think it's likely to be just a battery replacement job. I took the points and air filter covers off and they look spotless (probably not been opened since 1983), so I know it's not been messed about with. It came with a cool aftermarket topbox and still has the tax disc from when it was last on the road in '98. We didn't realise it would be as small as it was so where pleasantly surprised when it went in the back. Now the clean up: I think it was covered in something similar to ACF 50 as the wheels have come up great and the exhausts aren't to bad either. After a wash and wax
  11. I hate them too, don't seem to give a shit about what they do and most of them are power mad. Plastic pigs are just as bad too.
  12. I've contacted Sunrise graphics, just waiting to see what they will cost.
  13. I've seen that and unfortunately they don't do it for my bike.
  14. Or if anyone knows there I can buy the original decals for a 1982 in white that would be helpful.

    The scenery almost looks real
  16. Hi, I've found someone that can make me the tank decals however I don't know the dimensions. Could anyone tell me what they are? Here's the decals I need the dimensions for: http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?um=1&hl=en&biw=1133&bih=544&tbm=isch&tbnid=PC0WmpXHY3zdDM:&imgrefurl=http://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php%3Fp%3D2467963&docid=rHSllDkewXbwiM&itg=1&imgurl=http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu8/corf/13042010345.jpg&w=1024&h=768&ei=tX5rT9bjE4WD8gPh_Iy-Bg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=519&vpy=241&dur=2377&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=120&ty=110&sig=105197315342697997042&page=4&tbnh=163&tbnw=187&start=35&ndsp=13&ved=1t:429,r:10,s:35 Thanks, Ollie.
  17. Ok, so yesterday I got the bike out and did a few small checks. I measured the resistance of the coil which is meant to measure 8.5-11.5 ohms according to the haynes. However mine only measures 2.5-3.5 ohms. I'm not sure if I measured it correctly because I measured another old coil that was in the garage and that also measured 2.5-3.5. But the one on the bike seams fairly new. I also removed the generator and that seemed fine(I'm not too sure how to measure this?) Lastly, I sanded down the earthing points to the frame as I haven't used the correct ones I think? The spark is still weak but I think this has improved it a little. The spark can jump about 2mm and travel through an old Champion spark plug but won't go through the NGK? Ollie.
  18. I've only posted one other thread about ignition and that was to do with getting a spark in the first place not a weak spark. On all the other forums I'm on people hate refreshing old posts. Also I thought it would help others more being a more specialised topic? Anyway, It has never run since i've had it, I bought it as a non runner with no spark at all. I then got a woodruff key and sorted the CDI out. However the spark is weak. I know nothing about JAP bikes and CDI's etc. So I am grateful for any help.
  19. It looks like this http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=mk1+dt+125+LC&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1133&bih=508&tbm=isch&tbnid=ra6e8ho76zHDVM:&imgrefurl=http://www.ianweston.com/pastbikes.html&docid=O7eP20tenEJicM&imgurl=http://www.ianweston.com/images/past%252520bikes/DT125LC.jpg&w=175&h=131&ei=AP87T-adJcTC0QXj_Nhs&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=375&sig=105197315342697997042&page=1&tbnh=104&tbnw=140&start=0&ndsp=10&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0&tx=63&ty=27
  20. I believe it's a mark 1? I think it's 1983.
  21. Hi, I've got a very weak spark that comes through the spark plug cable from the CDI but only occasionally it will come through the spark plug. Me and my dad can't figure out what it is, I thought it might be a bad earth? Compression is fine. Could it be a faulty CDI? Thanks, Ollie.
  22. Hi, Thanks to a lot of you I have been able to sort out a few problems with my 1982 DT125 LC. Today I'm going to try to get it running, is there anything I need to do before I attempt to get it running? I know I need to bleed the oil pump but that's it really. Also they are designed to mix the 2 stroke oil and the fuel separately, but would I just be able to pre mix it and put it straight into the fuel tank? Thanks, Ollie.
  23. Yep, worked a treat! Heated it up, pulled the wire through then dipped the nipple in some solder and put it together again
