  1. Hi there, I live in Cornwall and am looking for a first big bike (Passed DAS on Thursday!!). I only know of 3 motorcycle retailers in the area; Damerells (Just down the road, handy), Cornwall Kawasaki Centre and North Cornwall Motorcycles. Are there any other retailers / garages in Cornwall? Good or bad experiences of any places would also be helpful
  2. Cheers Proffesional, I wear mine under when riding to work in my all weather gear but at the weekend I'll wear them outside my jeans. Got DAS in a month so just checking that there isnt a right or wrong way of wearing boots.
  3. As per the title, does it matter if you wear your boots inside or outside of your trousers? Any benifit of wearing them one way or the other?
  4. You'd think that in a time of austerity bike manufacturers would be flooding the TV with ads for bikes. I bought my SR125 in August and I tell everyone who asks how cheap it is to run (70 - 85 MPG, £16 RFL) and the fact that in the 7 months I've owned it it has paid for itself in saved fuel (and paid for all my gear too!).
  5. Yep, all sorted! Adapters came today, 2 mins to fit and 5 mins to get the new battery in and connectd. Makes a lot of difference having an 8 amp battery in there instead of 4 amp
  6. Just found these: http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=280553153188&cmd=VIDESC These should convert my terminals to side screw as required (hopefully)
  7. No bullet connector, just a single ring connector going onto the battery. Could I make up a little extension using a bit of wire and 2 ring connectors? Bolt one end of extention to the battery, position battery, then connect other end of extension to the ring connector on the ground cable? If so, what gauge cable do I need? Also, do you know where the ground connects to the frame, I can't seem to trace it.
  8. Thanks DirtyDT, looking at the manual it appears that despite me ordering the battery as spec'd in the manua (an example)l: http://www.mdsbattery.co.uk/shop/productprofile.asp?ProductGroupID=2102 The terminals are not the correct way around, they should look like the terminals on this battery: http://www.mdsbattery.co.uk/shop/productprofile.asp?ProductGroupID=2076 Can I turn the terminals on the battery, or is it better/safer to just buy a new battery with the terminals the right way around?
  9. Hi all, Today I've tried to install a new battery into my SR125 but am stuck. I took the old battery out, which was a small 4 amp battery. Went to put in the new battery (YB7L- and it slots in but I can't get to the negative terminal to attach the cable. I can get the positive cable on fine but the negative cable is too short to connect to the battery BEFORE slotting in to the battery bay. I can't get to the negative cable/terminal from the left hand side as there is very little access (second pic). Is there such a thing as a battery cable extension? Below are some pics as it's kind of difficult to explain the problem. Any help gratefully received
  10. Any tips on charging, is it any different from charging a car battery?
  11. Hi all, My SR125 hasn't been used the last two weeks due to the bad weather so yesterday I went to give it a run out only it wouldn't start. When I go to start it I get a buzzing / clicking sound coming from the battery area. I've checked all connections to the battery and all wires around the battery / starter motor seem to be secure. Could it be the battery is too low to get the starter motor turning over? Or is it an issue with the starter motor itself? Any help gratefully received
  12. Went to do the SR's first oil change today and have managed to (quite badly) damage the drain plug. The plug didn't move at all so it's still sealed but I've rounded a few of the nut corners: I have a new drain plug and oil seal, any tips for getting the old one off? I only have 'simple' tools (normal / ring spanners, socket set), how much would I expect to pay for a garage to remove it if I can't?
  13. It's a 12v, turns out that the battery wasn't secured in it's tray and the connection had loosened. Always happy when a problem costs nothing to replace
  14. Hi all, Went to start my SR125 this morning and no electricals , no neutral light, headlights etc. I then noticed that I'd left the light switch on since last use (14 hours). When I turn the engine off the lights turn off automatically, but would the light switch being left on have caused the battery to drain?
  15. After 10 years of having a car and associated spiralling costs I thought getting a bike could be a practical solution for my 20 mile commute. Never rode a bike before but booked my CBT in July and swatted up on the controls. CBT was a real eye opener, sod commuting, this is FUN! Bought my first bike (SR 125) just over a week ago and having a great laugh shifting around Planning to commute as much as I can during the winter and do DAS around Easter time (teacher, so have to fit with holidays) and then it might have to be a MT-03, Fazer 600 or Kaw ER6f Most of my mates don't get it until I explain: My Renault Scenic 53 plate: Cost > £3000, Insurance > £250 with 7yncb, Tax > £180, petrol > £25-£30 pw My Yamaha SR125 W plate Cost > £400, Insurance > £117 on a cbt with no experience, Tax > £16, petrol (so far) £8 pw
