  1. Bugger! got there, went to start her up and had no throttle, then it jammed :( Upper cable has snapped :(

Bonus, got to ride my mates sons KX80 and his CRF250 instead, God i LOVE that bike! accelerated like a scalded kitten, with nowhere near full throttle. Had a wicked day, got myself a bit more confident and very very muddy! Didnt fall off, but that was mainly because i wasnt giving it like i would have if it was my bike id been riding, didnt want to drop my mates new toy before he did!

  2. Some great advice there guys, but if im honest i forgot it all and just did what felt natural at the time. Unfortunately i didnt get to ride my bike, throttle cable snapped when i started her up, but bonus was i got to ride my mates sons KX80, which is bloody pokey for such a small bike, but was far too small for me so i ended up riding his Honda CRF250.... What a machine! Think im definately going to have to get myself a 4stroke 250 after a year or two!

  3. Picked this up on Tues for what i think was a very good price....

Only mods im aware of are Renthal bars, and a full Big One exhaust.

Powervalve is stuck open ( does it need battery to operate??) Battery Dead apart from that runs fine.

Cosmetically she's pretty good, but of surface rust on swingarm/frame and some paint damaged on plastics but what do you expect on a 22year old off roader!

Off out in an hour or so to Four Marks in Alton, Hants for a bit of a "getting to know you" session. Hopefully ill be a lot more confident by time i get back! (as well as bruised, bleeding etc!)

Will update with progress as and when its made! But before i do anything i need to apply for V5, make sure i aint bought a ringer!

  4. Hey guys,

So.... i bought my bike on tuesday and so far have ridden it up and down the close at half throttle in a straight line, turned, then come back again.

Today though i am off to four marks to get some practice in. i know 90% of it will be trial and error and just getting confident with the bike and more importantly myself, but anyone have any tips for me?

  5. do you do CBT on your own bike then, might be tricky with a wide open PV (no bottom end power) . I know were making assumptions here at the moment!

Im not sure tbh, i think most places like you to ride their bikes, havent looked into it in much detail yet!

Gave the bike a quick once over today, put some gearbox oil in, adjusted the clutch cable a touch, lubed the chain, bent the gear selector out a bit to suit my oversized feet a bit better, replaced a couple of knackered bolts etc etc. Need a new battery as its gone flat already, and once i have batt power i can sort the lights and check the PV situation out. Also bought myself a lid for this weekends antics :)

  6. Good advice there :) gonna have plenty of time riding it before i do too much as i have v5 to sort out and mot/tax it, buy my gear, oh and do a cbt! haha

gonna get as much practice in as poss off road before cbt so im nice an confident

  7. Cheers for that Nev, ill be sure to take a look at your thread, i need all the pointers i can get tbh!

I have a good mate who has been into bikes for 30 odd years, he is giving the bike a once over for me, but we've both been out on it and he reckons its decent enough. needs few small bits like new grips, new clutch cable and lever, and a general service/tune as its a bit wooly at low revs, but hopefully we'll have that sorted for the weekend and i can see what the bike ( and me) can do!

  8. Hey guys,

Finally decided to scratch the itch i have had since i was 16 and buy myself a bike! more financially motivated than anything else tbh, but even diesel costs in my 45mpg van are painful at the present time!

Bought myself a 1989 Yamaha DT 125, this one to be precise:

Dont know much about it tbh, plenty of forum searching to be done!

Not really ridden a bike ( succesfully anyway! ) before, but took it for a spin down the road last night and was pretty shocked at how hard the power comes in! Hoping to get it off road this weekend get me some practice and get used to the bike.

Anyways, sure you'll all hear plenty of stupid questions from me sometime soon!
