  1. Hi Nick, It might be an idea to go to "new members" section and say hello BEFORE asking loads of questions and looking for advice, people like to know who they are talking to before they get involved. Plus when you think about it just rolling up and asking questions of strangers is RUDE, so be nice and say Hi to everyone and they (might) be nice back. :jossun:

  2. HI Tris, just a thought but if your bearings are a worry then it is always possible to regrease them, if water and crud can get in so can fresh grease, this won't save a knackered bearing but it will increase the life of an old bearing, those of us from back in the day who rode BSA TRIUMPH NORTON and such can say with some degree of certainty that you can ride it till it squeals and still get home if you must. But most bearings are hardened steel and they will put up with an awful lot of punishment before you have to replace them, most modern bearings are made to very fine tolerances but there is a lot of slack in there for them to use before they need changing, and has been said earlier if your pulling them in and out on a regular basis the housing will suffer from the stress. So if it don't squeak or squeal and there's no crunchy noises and the amount of wear is not noticeable regrease them and they should last for ages. Hope that gives you some food for thought. :jossun:

P.S. Just so you know my XJ has the same steering head bearings that it came with and they are 30 years old I regrease them every year and they look like new.

  3. Hi Morph, OG is right of course about being polite but you must be firm about the delivery, it shows in the details that the bike is sold WITH delivery and the extra bits (helmet gloves etc) as being extra to the original cost so by implication the delivery is part of the deal unless otherwise stated (which it's not) stand firm and let him know your not happy about the extra cost you might just swing a concession from him, if all else fais tell him your a member of the YOC and you will do a writeup of his sharp practice, you never know it might help sway him to drop the delivery charge.

PS DT is right as well distance selling regs are pretty strict so fire them at him.

  4. HI Morph and welcome to the YOC, might be an idea if you were to go to the "NEW MEMBER" section and tell us who you are BEFORE asking for advice, other than that the 125 is a nice bike have heard lots of good things about it and it has some excellent build qualities, but like most 125s it will struggle a bit on steep hills and fierce headwinds but down hill and on the flat it should rock your world, some one else on here will know about the exhaust issues but only if you introduce your self first, once again welcome and a HAPPY NEW year to you. :jossun:

  5. Hi And welcome to the YOC, it might be an idea to introduce your self first before you start to ask for help, go to "NEW MEMBERS" section and tell us about your self THEN ask your questions. It's only polite really when you think about it! You wouldn't just rock up to a stranger and start asking for help on your bke, so say Hi and everyone will be more than willing to offer an opinion about your problem and you might even get a sensible answer. Other than that WELCOME and a happy NEW YEAR to you. :jossun:

  6. Hi Seana, Just thinking if it's poping and farting when you decelerate then it actually might be to rich a mixture ie fuel in exhast and then it burns off as you shut down, this happens with wasted spark systems and so it might be an idea to actually change back to your old jets and see if that cures the problem, bluing to the pipes is fairly usual anyway but fuel burning in the exhaust will speed it up plus it will over heat the cylinders as the exhaust cannot get rid of the waste heat due to them being hotter than the engine, otherwise just increase the air jet size to lean the mixture out that way. of course this might all be complete rubbish and some one else may have a better idea of what's going on. :jossun:

  7. Hi Nick, It might be best if you were to use the "new members" section to tell everyone who you are first BFORE rolling up and asking for help, most people don't mind helping out with a problem BUT they do like to know who they are talking to. It's the same as if your down the pub and some bloke you don't know starts asking you to help him out with his problem, WHY SHOULD YOU! So play nice and say Hi and the guys on here will be more than happy to offer advice and tips. Or not, your choice.

  8. Hi Trigger and welcome to the YOC, It might be best if you keep you comments on this part of the site to who you are and what you ride THEN got to "workshop section" and post your query there, some peps get annoyed if you roll up and start asking questions when you have only just arrived, next take photos of the offending bit and post it to the site and THEN ask what it is and how do I stop it leaking, better yet put ALL your info on the bike into a question, year-type-problem and wait for someone to get back to you, they are nice guys on here but will eat you alive if you get it wrong. :jossun:

  9. Hi All, Just going to ask if anyone has used Philpots at PITTED FORKS in Luton to have any of their rechroming done, just bought a spare set of forks off of ebay to replace my old knackered set and Philpots want £156 all in inc P+P for a full hard rechrome of the stancions fully guaranteed for 12 months, sounds like a good deal to me but do you know better? If you happen to know of a better deal please give me a call or PM me if you want to check them out for yourself then they are at www.pittedforks.co.uk. Martin. :jossun:

P.S It seems that due to demand there is a 4 week turn round on their jobs but as the bike is laid up for the winter not a problem for me but might be for some others.

  10. Hi All, Just a quick question, I need a YICS tool for the XJ and havng seen the price for a proper one on fleabay (F*****G HELL) and such I have decided to make my own but was wondering if anyone had made one or had one spare that I could borrow for a short time, if not then I have downloaded the drawings from the net and was just going to ask if I made 1 would anyone else like one as well at cost price, it's only a few bits of copper pipe some nuts washers and rubber pipe after all and provided the dimensions are correct I can see no reason why it can't be made. If you have any comments or suggestions (this is where you put your rude comments and totally irrelavent suggestions in) then please feel free to bung them in, if your interested in one of these then please PM me and I will get back to you with some sort of time frame and a rough price (shouldn't be much after all) I'm in the UK but have no problem if your not ( US- AUS etc) just get back to me and we can sort something out. I have 2 drawings that I downloaded that seem pretty comprehensive but if you have a better picture / description then send it along, Thanks all. Martin. :jossun:
