  1. I believe the 2003 may have been a different model to the 2004, due to the 2004 model having a 16mm carburettor as standard, and a 2 litre reserve tank capacity, not the .71 litre.

Hi, when i first purchased my 2004 tzr 50, it was completely stock, just de-restricted. i was running a 110 main jet and running just right, if not a tiny bit rich (better safe than sorry). ofcourse, try a 110 and do a plug chop until you find the exact jetting size you need. just be careful you don't run it weak! i'm suprised you managed to get about 64 from it stock, mine only hit around 55! since then i've done much work to it, now hits nearer 85 on the flat .   3. yep definitely running too rich, and believe it or not, running that rich can have a sudden, dramatic effect like this. though you need to find what has caused the mixture to turn so rich, have you checked the exhaust for any problems? seeing as it's running rich, i'd suggest checking the operation of the choke, making sure it isn't sticking. if all else fails, try down jetting?   4. how strange, no blockages in the main jet? have you checked the air box for anything that could be dramatically restricting air flow? there could be a problem with the exhaust, but the effects from an exhaust problem will not come on over night, so i'd say it wasn't the exhaust. what colour is your spark plug tip?   5. hmm.. is the bike standard? try checking your carburettor for blockages, if you were on reserve before filling up, it's likely you will have taken some crap through the carb, partly blocking the main jet, simple enough to remove and clean out. Alex

Hi there, sounds to me as if the bike is running a little rich, causing it to splutter. take out your spark plug and see what colour it is, if it's a dark brown/blackish colour, something is causing the bike to run too rich. The plug should be a light browny colour. now, seeing as the bike ran fine before hand, it means something has changed, effecting the fuel air mixture, i'd suggest checking the carburettor for debris, check the air box for any changes and lastly check the exhaust for any blockages or damage, hope this helps.
