  1. I had something similar the other day. I was fitting new grips and accidentally pressed the kill switch. I switched it back to on but when I came to start the bike the day after all I got was the neutral light and the oil light but no starter. after switching the kill switch off and then back on it started and has been fine ever since. Must be a bit of a dicky switch.
  2. Welcome to the YOC! I got my manual here They were pretty quick to deliver and have lots of other stuff too.
  3. My jacket caused the same scuffs on the tank. I used G3 liquid I got from work (it's like industrial strength T-cut) and then used a self adhesive clear sticker by 3M that I cut to shape to stop it from scratching again. Seems to be working fine.

    ye old bikers nod

I was coming back from Hayfield to Glossop the other week and a load of bikers were coming the other way split into two groups riding big cruiser type bikes. I nodded at the first group and they all just looked disgusted that I nodded, I think one even growled at me! The second group nodded and waved like good 'uns. Some days everyone nods back, others only some of them. I think Rizo's right, maybe it is up to us to spread the word.
  5. It'd be interesting to find out. I have an FZR 600 with exactly the same problem which can be a pain in traffic

Nice one mate, well done. Great feeling isn't it
  8. Have you ever dropped it and not bled the oil pump after? I'm only asking because when I had one, way back when I was 16, I dropped it on a trail and didn't know about bleeding it after. It wasn't too long before a re-bore was needed, at least that's what Claremont's in Ashton said caused it. Like OG said, they aren't powerful but mine was dreadful before the re-bore (15mph top speed!) The compression test OG suggests should show it up. Hope this helps.
  9. Funny you should say that Cynic. The adapters I bought from Morgan came with little nitrile 'o' rings on them. Looking at how they were seated made me take them back out and use the brass washers that are on the screws instead. That allowed me to at least get the cylinders pretty much equal and brought the idle back down to normal. At one point one of the hoses split where it goes onto the gauge. To be honest, the bike runs well on the road (can be a little lumpy below 3k) but the idle sounds rough. I can't tell you what it's ticking over at exactly as the rev counter bounces between 1 & 2k although it's fine when actually riding (could be a symptom of something else, could be a dodgy rev counter) Anyway, my manual should be here tomorrow so I can start to get my head round it. I'll post any findings on here, hopefully there won't be too many problems
  10. Cheers. Like I said, I'm gonna wait for the manual to arrive and then do some digging around. It's a 19 yr old bike with 8 previous owners, some of which have had some interesting ideas about maintaining it from the look of things so I'm ready for a bit of work. Obviously helps when you have a better idea of what you're doing! My last bike was a TZR 125 20 yrs ago so I'm a bit 'green' with this
  11. Managed to get them all fairly equal with a normal tickover. gonna give it some investigation when the manual i ordered on thursday arrives. at least it seems to be as it was before (lumpy idle) It's a bit of a learning curve this bike business isn't it In the meantime, if anyone can offer some tips it'd be a real help Thanks
  12. Hi people, hoping someone can help. I've got a 91 J reg FZR 600 3HE. I've borrowed a dial type gauge off a friend from work and bought the 6mm adapters from morgan's web site. I've hooked it all up and started to adjust the 3 screws, 1 & 2, 3 & 4 and 2 & 3. I can get 1 & 4 in the normal scale on the dials but 2 & 3 won't go anywhere near. However, 2 & 3 are in the late valve timing or leak at intake manifold or heat riser portion of the dials. Little bit above my head at the moment. Idle is around 4k and i can't back it off. Now then, this is the first time i've attempted this so probably not doing it right. I take it you adjust the carbs with the 3 screws that you can see by looking in between the carbs? Really don't fancy going to work on the mountain bike tomorrow ( Any help will be really appreciated. Thanks, Steve
  13. Might pop down and have a look, it's not far from me
  14. Would the Clymer manual be better? I'm only asking because I could do with a manual for my FZR 600
  15. JESUS! I sh@t my shorts then!!!!! They've got a good pic of me though

    Taking Test

I've just passed my test (oh, how I love saying that ) with a local riding school and by the time it came to test day, i was confident enough to pass. Having said that, it had been 20 years since I'd ridden a bike so I wouldn't have just booked the test myself. The company I used have free introductory lessons to give you an idea of where you're up to so maybe something like that would help? Good luck anyway

    Module 2

Cheers mate, and good luck with the mod 2, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and didn't seem to last that long either.

    Module 2

Cheers everyone. Got it insured today and went for a spin. Loved every minute of it and the wife said my smile was huge! Think I'll be paying Rivi a visit Drewpy in the near future. A mate of mine at work has an XJR 1300 and he's been a few times. Told me that I had to go when I finally got on the road.

    Module 2

Well, after years of threatening to do it, I've finally got a full bike licence Passed my mod 2 today so it's no more L plates, high viz bibs telling the world I'm a rider under instruction or radio's in my ear!!! The FZR will be insured tomorrow and I've got a week off from work, oh, happy days!! I'm looking forward to my first ride tomorrow.
  21. Mod 2 on Thursday, it's gettin' close!

    FZR600 Genesis

Nice. I bought a 91 FZR 600 about 2 months ago for £895. Had some cracks in fairing near headlight and in the side panel so I've sorted those out and got all the plastic painted at work. Runs OK but I think it needs the carbs syncing. Just hoping I pass mod 2 on Thursday, can't wait to take it for a ride!

    nervous

Passed my mod 1 last Sunday with a cold and in that heat. Relax, take a deep breath and don't try to rush it. Just do what you've done in training. I actually enjoyed it. I've got my mod 2 on Thursday and really want to pass because my 91 FZR 600 has been sat there for a month. Good luck!
