  1. Can you not get the garage to diagnose the problem without going through with the repair, as it MIGHT be something that you could repair yourself, without acrueing a big bill? Armed with a workshop manual, and some of the help in here,(once we know what exactly the problem is, that is) you'd be surprised at what you can achieve.
  2. Ah right see what you mean, and £200 is a fair whack, shame you can't get some measurements of the Givi rack, I could possibly knock you one up , and doctor a decent sized cheap box off e-bay to suit it.
  3. I can see your going the side pannier way, but looking at your bike, I'm thinking if that rear seat comes off, can you make a top box bracket somehow?
  4. Daft question, but, you have been making sure theres 2 stroke oil in the bike? I say that because you saying it suddenly stopping, for no reason, plus the engine (possibly)seized, not able to bump start it, the oil pump not working?,enough 2t oil?, is something I'd deffinately check on. Just a thought
  5. I'll bet this bloke wished he'd just got a tent and a few bits and bobs to carry on his bike
  6. Right then, finished wrapping up the loom this morning, looking pretty decent if I may say so myself, OG that proper wrapping tape makes a big difference btw, I'll show it all in stages in this post, just incase somebody has bought a field bike that has had all it's wiring taken off, and fancies making up a loom themselves, so as to get the bike roadworthy again, (headlights, indicators, etc)but bear in mind this is all for a 1992 DT125R 3RN4 model, and other years, may have different wiring. But in principal it should be pretty much the same. Started off with an oily, cruddy, road grime encased mess. Stripped all the wrapping off and gave it a right good scrubbing, then cable tied it all on to a 6 foot plank, so as to keep everything in order, and in its original shape. Mapped it all down onto the comp, and labelled all the connections and terminals. WIRING LOOM FRONT END WIRING LOOM REAR LOOM Many of the internal crimps had just been wrapped with tape, so using normal blue, and yellow (bigger, for multi wire connections)coded wire connectors, took the hard plastic off them, and used the crimp from the inside of it then covered back over with shrink tubing. Replaced the all the terminals, mainly bullet connectors, wrapped the loom back up,and covered the tail end of the loom, where a fair bit of grime, comes up off the back wheel, with 13mm cable tidy, then sealed that with normal insulation tape. So there it is, a brand spanking looking loom, cost roughly, £35 quid, wire would have probably been around an extra £20-£30, but I've saved about £100, as I was almost going to buy one Heres a bit of a shopping list, for anybody thinking of doing their own, and wants to know, whats needed, all parts can be gotten off e-bay if so wished. Quiet in here?

You lived in a house? lucky bugger, we lived in a shoe box, in't middle of the road
  8. Could be a couple of things on the non starting side, the starter motor could be jammed, in which case if you use the wooden end of a hammer and tap the starter a few times it can sometimes free it, or if not try the starter motor relay,if this is clicking whilst you're trying to start it, it generally means it's buggered, this is usually a little box about twice the size of an oxo cube, under the tank or seat, but you'll need to refer to the manual as to where it is exactly,I'm not sure, as mine is a DT125R not an RE. The air filter should slide out of the air filter box and is held on by either an m6 wingnut or a m6 nut(10mm)take the foam filter out wash it in warm soapy water, dry it, then do whats called 'priming' thats soaking it in 2t oil, then wringing out carefully so its just damp not soaking wet, then replace, back into the air filter housing.Hope this helps. Not too sure as to why it would suddenly cut out, or not start with a bump start mind
  9. Hi and welcome Rach, am in the process of turning mine from an enduro to a sumo
  10. Hi and welcome Tony, Another Devonian is see, I can feel a Dartmoor meet coming up ey?
  11. Lol, aye the real thing, and no namby pamby diet stuff either
  12. Ha,ha, aye, that's Fred, we've been together a few years now, infact I took pity on him couple of months ago, and put a new shaft on it Working for Babcocks german division, few years ago, one of their platers took a fancy to him, wanted to swap with his, noo way!!!, have ya ever seen the daft shape of their one's? As for the coca-cola, it's an old trick we used to use on heat seized bolts and stuff on the boilers, if we'd got no Release All, and geez do they get some heat
  13. Cheers OG, it's one headache less I suppose, now to sort the loom out
  14. Made a start on getting all the bushes and rollers out of the swing arm today. I've had them soaking in bags of coca-cola for about 4 days now. Armed with a hammer, a round drift, 13/16" socket, and 3/8" extention bar, set about trying to drift the bushes and bearings out. Starting on the inner bushes drifted them both out, so I can get a full run inside, with the socket on the two outer bearings. Literally took me 5 minutes, infact not even that, to get all the bushes and bearings out, proof that the Coca-Cola trick does work then. DDT you might want to give this method a go on your swingarm bearings mate
  15. Black with kwak/monster energy green printing if poss? if not black with white, will be cool. 3xl please.
  16. How about Police auctions? I know plod confiscate stuff if they think it's been bought with ill gotten gains
  17. Julian, isn't there some old dear up the road, or near to you, that you could befriend? with an empty garage, whereas you could bung her a few bob a week to rent off her? or maybe even just a driveway?(you'd probably need to buy a bike cover) You'd be doing each other a favour, as you'd have somewhere to put your bike safe, and she'd have a motorbike on her driveway, therefore making any potential burglers, into thinking that there's somebone living at the house, that is fit and young enough to ride a bike, and not some poor defenceless 80 year old, therefore capable of putting up a fight if broken into, hopefully this would most likely act as a deterrant, as most thieves and burglers are spineless b*stards, who would run away at, the first instance of any confrontation Just a thought.Nev
  18. Hi and welcome to the madhouse mate
  19. Started on the wiring loom couple of days ago, cleaned and scrubbed it all down, then stripped it of all the wrapping tape, both from the outside, and also the inner junction, single crimps,it's all been cable tied, so as to keep where everything branches off the main loom. Then it's cable tied on to a 6ft piece of wood, just so as to keep it's full shape and size. Have noted all the different colour wires, and roughly measured them, for future reference, also have mapped the wiring using Microsoft Paint, again so I can use it for future reference. Ordered new terminals, various sizes of shrink wrap tubing, shrink wrap crimps for the inner wiring junctions, black cloth loom wrapping tape, and a few metres of 12mm cable tidy. So heres where I am so far. From this a filthy crud covered mess To this stripped right down to the bare wiring The mapping I've done of the wiring so far, it's taken ages but well worth it in the long run
  20. Nice restore job Duane, and lovely place to ride it too, where you are, I've an uncle up in Elk Creek, Schenevus, stayed a couple of weeks with him there, a few years ago, beautiful countryside.
  21. Hi and welcome drdazz, Aye there's a few lads with DT's in here, maybe you can post some pics of yours in the garage section?
  22. Ah right, yep have already rang up Yuniparts and Yambits, and they tell me they don't make looms for my year bike, mainly up to 80's stuff, shame too, because like you say, they are around the £50 quid mark, and the cheapest I've found new for mine is £140 from Yamaha.
  23. Cheers NE0, I've looked at that German site, and will deffinately bookmark it,and if it was just a case of replacing a frizzled loom, and nothing else, I'd have probably gone your way and bought one, banged it in and back on the road again, but in my case of it being a project/renovation, theres an umpteen number of parts I need to be replacing, and therefore it's a case of prioritizing, and juggling finances, also seeing what can be done myself,to save a few bob, as I've not even got around to sorting out the engine yet, and am looking at at least £200 on getting that up to scratch, and the more I'm spending on the project, the bigger chance of me getting deaf and dumb sandwiches off her indoors. Plus I've gone past the point of no return, with the loom, as I've cleaned and stripped it of all the wrapping tape, including the internal junctions, pinned it down onto a 6 foot, strip of wood, so as to keep it's shape. I've also mapped all the wiring, onto the comp, using microsoft paint, for future reference, and it really does look like a london underground map. The loom itself after being cleaned, looks in fine fettle, so I've ordered new shrink wrap crimps, (for the internal junctions), shrinkwrap tubing of various sizes, new full set of terminals, PROPER loom wrapping tape (cheers OG)and 12mm cable tidy, all for around the £30 quid mark. Luckily one thing I do have a fair bit of is time, and I'll be taking some time on it so as not to bugger owt up, but my reckoning is that by this time next week I hope to have it all finished and back on the frame, looking brand spanking I'll bang some pics of where I am at so far, regarding the loom, on my own project thread,(sorry again Phil for hijacking your thread again mate ) just in case theres others out there in the same boat, and are maybe thinking about re-furbishing their own looms
  24. Yer missing a couple of pipes fella, get yourself 2x 6mm I.D rubber hoses, each about 8" long, not sure exact length , (top of my head) In the bottom pic the spigot nearest the spark plug (top red arrow) unscrew the cross head hex bolt, and turn the spigot around 180degrees, so that the spigot is now facing upwards, then just connect the pipes up, one from the carb to the head, doesn't matter which way round. Hope this helps
  25. Trust me Clarkgray, if my bike had been stolen from outside my house at 3pm in the afternoon, a couple of days ago, I would have been well and truly f*cked, whereas if it were to happen today, I'd be paid out. That's all I know. and all for the extra cost of 4 packets of fags a year, I'm now a happy chappy
