ugh darn my whole bike is either black or copper. Itll look really weird with silver there... Ive talked to alot of people and its an equal fight. some say no problems and others say dont do it. I'll prolly go with no powder just to be safe but man i wish i could have it black

ive been wanting to get my engine powdercoated but I've heard that I shouldnt because it will run to hot. Have you had any problems? Opinions?

Try voltage drop testing. Your parts may be fine but the connections could be bad or there is a small current being drawed to were it shouldnt be. Voltage drop testing is much easier then looking at a wiring diagrahm and making a shot in the dark where something might be wrong.

wow thats amazing he made all that himself. How much of a difference does it make (starting/running/etc.)? Do you still have to replace/clean up the points every so often? I may have to give this guy a call.

I found this electronic ignition kit but I'm kinda iffy about it but it does have our models and many of the xs650 models. What do you guys think? (to look at the models you have to click the price/buy button)

Do you guys know if the axle, bolt, shims, spacers, and adjuster from the xs400 18" is the same as a 16" xs400 special? Can I just swap out wheels?

they are stock xs400 rims. I found a website that gives the stock size of the rims: http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/yamaha_xs_400_1979.php it says 18"/3" front and 18"/3.75" for the back. So would I be okay using those tires?

I just went to a flatout motorsports and asked them about tires. They said I could use a pirelli 180/55/R18 on the back and a 130/90/18 up front. Is this possible?

the only markings we found were from the tires and that was front: 18"/3.0" and back: 18"/3.5" I know I'm prolly making this alot harder than it actually is im just confused

I did look at it but still confused. My friend wants to to get 5-6" back tire so does that mean I look at the chart for say a 5" back tire? Or am I wrong? Will a 5-6" tire even fit? Everytime I look at the chart I get myself confused

Thanks for the help guys. I think I will go with 130/90*18 for the rear and 110/90*18 for the front. Do you guys think that would be okay? I understand things could rub if were not careful and the performance of the tire could drop if you go too big. how big do you think I could go?

I have a friend in Ohio who is building it for me and we are up to the point where we need tires before we get the fender on. I need some help though with tires and conversions. I know the front tire is 18"/3" and the back is 18"/3.5" but we want to use a much bigger back tire. My buddy says to find one with 5-6" tire in the back. I am not sure what to look for at all. You guys think you could help me out? Here are some pictures also. Thanks for the help!

Does anyone know the bolt size to take off the magneto on a 78 xs400? I can't find it anywhere and I don't have a puller.

I took the cover off and the starter spins the chain fine (the chain is not broken) I think its the starter clutch you mentioned. I will have to see if I can get to it or not

I have a 1978 xs400 and the starter is not engaging. It spins the sprockets fine but it is not engaging with the engine. However when I use the kick start it turns the engine fine. The kick start is hard to get it to turn over too. I think I will change the oil and see if that helps with kick start. What should I do about the starter?
