My Vstar950 has done about 15,000 miles; very reliable I ride it every day. Just recently I have noticed that the idle speed seems high sometimes. It goes to around 2,000 rpm instead of the usual 1,000. It was particularly bad last weekend I went for a ride over the mountains (9,000 feet) it was also a very hot day... whenever I stopped it took several minutes for the idle speed to return to normal. I checked the throttle cable adjustment - I don't think anything is sticking - could there be something wrong with the fuel injectors? There's virtually no information on line about these bikes that I have found, and I am not about to take it to a dealer... Any help is much appreciated. Geoff

Replace the small (replaceable) bits of metal under the foot boards before you wear the boards out :-) Geoff

Make sure both cylinders are firing, I had (have) an XV250 it ran perfectly for 7 years - used it everyday - about the only problem I ever had sounds almost exactly like yours, it would start, tickover and sounded OK - but was only firing on one cylinder had no power, top speed about 30mph (downhill) - sounds silly I know but the mufflers on the XV250 are linked and its not easy to tell if both cylinders are firing... I seem to remember it was an HT cable adrift (under the tank) Geoff

Hmmm, well the only one that I could find that fits the standard sissy bar on the tourer is the Yamaha one, there are plenty (Cobra, Bub) that look really nice but require me to throw away the 950 sissy bar. I can see why the Yamaha one fails because of those thin mounting plates, I haven't found one that clamps to the tubular uprights - that would be better.... Gonna visit the local Yamaha people in San Jose this weekend and look. Geoff

I need a luggage rack for my VSTAR 950 tourer. Looking around the standard Yamaha STR-3D-851-30-00 one is reported to break, does anybody know of a really good one that bolts straight on to the standard sissy bar? Thanks, Geoff

(or the torque or BHP figures) All these add-on tachs seem to go to 8,000. Any clues? - I hunted the Yamaha website - nothing. Luv the bike BTW... Geoff

Me too, I am very happy (its tops out at about 110 I think) have a couple of questions: First bike ever with a windshield, it is little low. Maybe when the weather goes bad I will get a taller one, does any one know if the shield improves the drag? At certain speeds espcially in a crosswind or in traffic there's a lot of buffeting. I may take the shield off as an experiment... Does anybody know what the power output peak RPM for the 950m is? I am thinking about adding a tach. Geoff
