  1. Hi, I have bought a 2003 R1 a little while ago and it had a bit of a clunk changing from 1st into 2nd since I got it. But now its as if I am noticing it more and more. Its a definite clunk at low speeds of 25-45mph and then more of a pinging sound between 45mph and up. I have been told by a few people that this is a normal noisy R1 gearbox and that lots of them do it. I was also advised that my chain might be too tight when I'm sitting on it, but it looks fine to me... Have any of you have any suggestions or should I begin to worry??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  2. OK, that was an estimate from my local bike shop... They did a great job and the bill? £430 incl VAT and labour ! I just picked it up today, so I'm a very happy boy at the moment. The reason for the long wait was no one keeps the 2003 R1 (5PW7) Washer Bolt in stock. I had to wait all this time just to get the £3.50 bolt... --------------- So if you own a 2003 R1 (5PW7) and you have to replace your stator, I would recommend that you order one of these bolts so that you have it when it comes to putting your bike back together. Apparently you need to use a new one as it is fixed very very tight... The bolt part no. is: 90105 105A6
  3. Still having trouble... Here's a pic of my alternating stator --- I have found a link to a R1 Manual in case any of you face the same problem: R1 Manual - Page 260 Hope this helps!
  4. OK, so nobody replied. Found the problem: I now have to replace the genrator stator, cover gasket and rectifier, about £400+VAT Not a cheap problem this turned out to be...
  5. Hi, yesterday I rode my bike in to work, no problems. When I tried to start it up the next morning, the battery was dead, did about two swings and that was it. So I tried "bump starting" it. When I drop the clutch the bike starts up for about half a second and goes dead. The dash display disappearing with it. So I picked up a battery from my local bike shop and popped the new charged battery in and started her up. I measured the Voltage over the terminals and it stayed at 12V regardless if I pick up the revs or not. So I raced back home from work with the knowledge that it's not charging the battery and about a hundred yards from my home she spluttered to a halt. Dead. Now I would like to know if you have any thoughts on this. I am going to charge up the battery again now over night and take my chances to ride to the bike shop where they can find the problem. I would just like to know if there is a chance that it might just simply be a simple problem that I might be able to correct myself or can I take is as gospel that either my rectifier or alternator has gone? What do you think? I didn't know that a bike can drain a battery so fast while running... Thanks
  6. Hi, I just though I'll add one more Video...
  7. OK, none it is then! Thanx for the advice. Cheers
  8. I would like to know which brand / type of fuel additive you would recommend. It's a 2003 R1 and has done about 16700 miles now and I think it's time to clear her throat. Thanks.
  9. Thanks for all the replies, I would just like to let you know that I have now bought and fitted a Akrapovic exhaust to my R1. I just can't believe I haven't done this earlier! She sounds amazing! Thanks for the help though.
  10. Just like to say welcome mate, great bike ! And YES ! Red is the best colors!
  11. Thanks for the reply mate, I will keep this one in mind, I will see what else there is and then I'll decide which one. Your talking about the EXC301E model if I'm not mistaken? I will PM you if I have decided to get it. Looking at the price difference, like Akrapovic and let's say Viper cans, how can there be such a huge price difference? Cheers
  12. That's something like that yes! I looked at the Akrapovic website and I can not find anything for a 2003 R1. Really looking for something close to this: If any1 knows of something close to this kinda pipe, please let me know. Cheers
  13. Hi, I have a 2003 R1 with a standard can on it, and now I’m looking into getting a nice can fitted. I’m looking for something that looks nice and sounds nice too. The short cans are really what I would love to have, but I’m not sure if they can be fitted to the bike. Which can would you recommend? I have something like this in mind…
  14. I would also just like to add that if you have tools lying about in your garage, it's a good idea to keep it locked up. What's the point in having all the security fitted, but you leave the tools to break it nearby! Another thing that might give it away that you have a bike in hiding is to make your garage door look like it's hiding something. I know this is a tough one, how do you keep your baby safe, but stay hidden? The other big giveaway is giving your baby a nice lovely bath on the driveway. I know I don't have the answers, but I thought I'll just mention it... PS: Maybe you should consider getting a pair of pit bulls ( with AIDS and RABIES ) to guard your bike! Or if you want to be a bit different, make out to be a poisonous snake collector so that you have a BIG WARNING SIGN on your garage door to comply with UK LAW... --- Just had a thought now... just want to check if my bike is still... WHAT THE F....! Here's some more examples:
  15. Thanks for the post mate, every penny counts hey... Cheers
  16. Hi mate, thanks for the info. But just how much difference are we talking about here? For example: If I pump 10 L on the worst time possible with a empty tank, how much fuel might be lost? I find your info very interesting and I will keep it in mind, but how much can you possibly gain? Cheers mate.
  17. Hi guys, picked it up today and I have to say that I am very pleased with my new bike. Just got home now... And I would just like to thank Mike for giving me the best insurance deal. Thanx a lot! So there's no need to look for the "insurance guy", but thanks anyways, really appreciate it. Cheers!
  18. Thanx for the advice. What do you suggest?
  19. Hi, I have been shopping around the last week or so now for a deal on insurance. I am now stuck between two of them, which one would you recommend? I have one year No Claims Bonus at the moment after an accident in 2006. Now, at the moment I live in a apartment with a communal secure car park under ground and this is where the bike will be kept. Because it’s a car park, the quotes are quite high. Some insurers like Bennets are quoting in the region of £2500! The best quote so far is: Autonet bike insurance - Website£1028 One bike Insurance: They have no website... £1072 -- They claim to protect or "guarantee" my 1 yr NCB - is this possible? I thought 3-4 yrs might be protected... Do you have any suggestions of where I can get a better deal? Thanx in advance
  20. Would you forgive her for using Washing Up Liquid ???
  21. Hmmm, didn't mean to be rude here at all, I was just curious. I can understand if you can't help it, but I have seen some guys wear it like that in the pub...when he clearly walked there! And yes! Girls look hot in boots, doesn't matter how they wear it!
  22. Maybe it's just me, but why do some people tuck their jeans into their boots? WTF?
  23. Thanx a lot guys! Really can't wait now. Just hope the weather plays along... Another thing... The bike is completely standard, would any of you recommend a race can? (Road legal - not looking for more performance really, just sound and looks) Cheers
  24. Thanx for the reply. I am picking it up on Tuesday! Really can't wait now... The thing is, I haven't been on a bike for a bit more than a year now. Had an accident with the other R1 (BMW t-boned me and my Gfriend). And now I am a little bit worried that I have lost my bottle, if you know what I mean. I'll see how it goes. Thanks again for the re-assurance about the price!
