  1. Thanks for the replies. I checked my radiator today and its really badly mucked up. No wonder! I only noticed once I looked at it from the front with my head right in there. Now if anyone has any tips on how to safely get all that gunk out between the fins, I would really appreciate it. I have some MuckOff which I will try. Thanks again, you were both spot on. 2. I would just like to ask if someone can tell me if this is normal for a hot bike (summer London traffic) to vent steam from the vent under the bike? I had my cooling system checked on the last service about 2 months ago. The water smells like coolant, so it must be an issue on my cooling system surely. But the garage found nothing wrong with it... Any ideas would be much appreciated. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  3. Hi again, no I still have to pick it up from the garage. Will post what I find out in my firtst thread. Didn't mean to double post or anything. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
  4. No I'm not. Thanks anyway. I'm going to pick it up and see exactly what the problem was. Thanks very much again. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
  5. I would like to know if its possible to damage the generator (magnets etc) when working on a 2004 R1? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sent from my GT-N8010 using Tapatalk 4
  6. Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. Sent from my GT-N8010 using Tapatalk 4
  7. I just want to know if it was possible that the generator was damaged when work was done on the starter? Seems odd that the generator magnets came out just days after the starter (parts) was replaced. Anyone? Sent from my GT-N8010 using Tapatalk 4
  8. Just an update. The alternator magnet came out and mashed up everything else. Cost of new repair : £909 Thats just under 2k spent on this R1 in one month! Just hope that there is nothing else left to break now... Sent from my GT-N8010 using Tapatalk 4
  9. hmmm, I have now connected a battery pack to the bike and she starts up fine. The problem is that when I remove the battery pack, the dreaded error code 46 comes up. So this makes me think that the fault is not at all related to the work the mechanic has done. The stator might have come off and that was what I heard as metal parts rolling around the engine. Just hope it was the only damage done. Will recover it on Monday morning and take it to a garage. (A different dealer)
  10. Thank you, I will try to stay calm. I'll give them a chance as you suggested.
  11. Hi, I have recently had my 2004 R1 in for repairs with my local bike mechanic. Tonight I noticed a whining noise coming from the engine and then all of a sudden the sound of metal rolling around inside the engine. So being curious, I started the engine up again and it sounded ok-ish, but then when I wanted to switch it on again, it will not turn the engine over. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have put a clip on youtube where you can hear the whining noise before you cold hear metal rolling around. http://youtu.be/Zvz6LQxg7t8
  12. I thought this might make a few laugh a bit... The sound track is by Spitting Image. The video, boring I know... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFAZj_nduJk&feature=youtu.be
  13. Yes, they say prices went up for everybody... BS
  14. So after the incident where a driver reversed into me last year, I finally had my bike repaired. New fairing bracket and headlamp units etc. Now the guy at the workshop ended up tightening up every screw on the head unit when he assembled it for me. I only noticed something was wrong when I rode back home at night and I was lighting up every road sign on the A12 like a Boeing 747 coming in for a landing. I know where and how to adjust the headlight units, but I would like to know if anyone knows the specification of the actual beam projected? I know that if your headlamps are under 85cm you only need to drop the beam edge by 2-5cm at about 12 foot away. What about the horizontal projection? How many degrees right and left should they project? I'm due a MOT end of March and I don't want to fail because of something preventable like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you know of any tips and tricks to get the beams adjusted more easily, please let me know. PS: I now know it takes about 15 mins for a 2004 R1 battery to drain if you don't keep the engine running while adjusting!
  15. up.yours I am a very relaxed biker, normally. I really posted this video to point out my irritation with drivers that still don't know how to use a roundabout. I get this every day on this roundabout. As you could see, I wasn't racing, undertaking, showing off, blind or reckless in this clip. If I was, I would have been knocked off. I am just annoyed... And that was the reason for my frustration in the clip. I am annoyed by the indicate and go mentality of some drivers. The fact that my insurance has gone up £200 because of a non-fault driver reversing into me last year also make me even more angry with drivers who drive like this. What if I was checking my speed, or was distracted by a possible hazard ? If he knocked me over and if I was found not to be at fault, then I have to pay even more next year to renew my insurance? If this driver ended up turning left after the roundabout, I would have thought nothing more of it... Anyway, this is old news... and I'm still on two wheels!
  16. So my MCE insurance renewal time has arrived... guess what... £200 more!
  17. Just wanted to add that I'm not trying to lecture people on riding etc... I just wanted to add that I was about to accelerate before he came over the last line. I think that made me feel his move was a bit iffy. But luckily the spidy sense kicked in.
  18. Yes I could have, but I didn't expect him to go all the way! Especially when the lane he was meant to use was clear. Oh well...
  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xs6Ol1U0G4U Just a short clip of a regular thing happening on the Redbridge Roundabout.
  20. My insurance expires next month and my renewal quote from MCE is £200 up this year. When I looked on the comparison websites, MCE come in at around £100 cheaper than my renewal quote. Is this a common thing? In another note, I would like to ask what you think... My insurance was £650 last year with 2 yrs NCB. In March a van reversed into me at traffic lights and this claim was paid by third party's insurance. But when it came to renew, my renewal quote is £850 with 3 yrs NCB...??? They said over the phone that the non fault recovered claim has made no difference to the more expensive renewal quote. But when I spoke to a different broker, they said that it does make a difference even though it wasn't my fault. Now I would like to know if I can claim this extra expense from the third party as I now have further loss in terms of higher insurance premiums for the next five years. Any thoughts? Or am I the one who's a bit funny here?
  21. I have a small bike tool kit (present from missus), few glow sticks, Crafty Plugger tube and three CO2 canisters under my seat... I just can't recommend the Crafty Pluggers kit enough. I just cut them in half so I have 20 strips! Helped me out a few times now. I have breakdown cover, but screw waiting for an hour or two in the rain or dark! I am on my bike almost every day, so the odds quickly stack up against a good run of no flat tires...
  22. Yes, I was accelerating not expecting anything. I've got this camera since a white van reversed into me in November. I can't help but think that it might just come in handy one day. There is so much going on on each commute...
  23. Just thought I'd share my headcam footage of this morning with you. Just as soon as I thought I'm seing ice, I hit an ice patch! Then only a few minutes later a BMW nearly takes me out... Warning, some language... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHGnCsblwdY&feature=youtube_gdata_player
  24. Have you noticed how you tend to have money in your wallet since quiting? I used to break a tenner every day! Now, I always seems to have a note on me.
  25. Thank you for the good advice, I will have a go at checking it out.
