Help!!! I am not a novice but I am stumped, I purchased a 2007 V Star 1100 Classic. When I looked at the bike it was popping and the number 2 pipe had bluing. it still had power and throttled up nice with some deaccelerate popping. The bike had after market Cobra pipes, and figured it was a carburation issue or vacuum. I drove the bike for about a week and out of no where it started bogging down and losing power. I rebuilt and cleaned the carburetors and cleaned and secured all vacuum lines. The carbs were bad and after rebuilding them out the popping went away and the idle is fine. but the bogging and loss of power was still there. when I throttle it up all the way in n…

Hi all, Just noticed today my carburetor joint (the Y shaped hose that connects the carburetor & both cylinders together) has BIG cracks in it & when the throttle is twisted it bulges out!!! Guess that's why my bike has been struggling at 50mph?! Does anyone know the best solution? I'm guessing tank off & replace the joint? Anyone know how difficult this is/have any tips?? In the meantime, how likely is the bike to go bang if I keep using it? Thanks for any help Graham

I was talking to one of the local mech heads form "grease monkeys" and he told me that there might be some kind of restrictor in the fuel lines causing a distinct lack of power during acceloration on my dragstar 125. I replaced all fuel lines and no difference. THEN I found a small plastic valve thingie in the tank breather pipe. It restricts the air flow to the tank. If the fuel cannot be replaced by air then you get a vacuum in the tank and this enevetably restricts the amount of fuel to the carb. Your air / gas mixture goes out of the window and hey presto massive flat spot. Great when your trying to over take something. So follow the breather hose from your tank, …

Hey Guys! It's been a while since I've posted, but have always been lurking around. I picked up an XJ750 a couple of years ago and have done quite a bit of work to it. However I'm at a complete loss as to what and why I'm having this random bike shutoff issue. It's getting to be dangerous because you don't know if it's going to shut off while you're leaning into a turn! Anyway, here are the symptoms: When the bike is cold it requires a bit of choke to start, then once the idle goes up, I turn the choke down. Then the bike idles fine. It will run for about 30 seconds usually, and then just shut off. Just recently I've had to wait about another 30 secon…

Hi, I am looking to change the stock exhaust on my wifes 1990 535 Virago. I have seen a Black Widow exhaust for £225 for the complete system. Have heard it on Utube and it sounds good. Has anybody got any experience of this system or any thoughts on what to fit.

I have just had a problem with my wifes Virago smelling of eggs after a rideout. It turned out that it was the rectifier regulator overcharging the battery. It boiled the battery dry before we found the problem. The rectifier was giving 16.9 volts. Changed it and all seemed ok . We went for a ride out and found that the fault had also blown the headlight, side light, both tail light and the right side indicator bulbs. All changed and back on track now, or so we thought. After changing the regulator/rectifier and checking that it was charging at 14.2v I refilled the battery with distilled water and was quite suprised that it held a charge. However, after …

Hi, I have recently brought my wife a 1990 Virago 535. It is fitted with flat handlebars. She is very happy with the bike but complains that the steering is heavy at low speed. I have ridden the bike and tend to agree with her but my main experience is with sports bikes. I have checked the tyre pressures and the headstock bearings and all seems to be ok. Has anybody else noticed this or got any suggestions to eliviate the problem. Thanks

Hi New to the forum (will post in new users area very soon) and looking at buying a 2005 XVS650 (not had a ride yet, but have sat on one) and have some questions I've not fully been able to find answers on from reading the forum. 1. Seat height…MCN reviews says its 710mm. When I sat on one it seemed quite low and much lower than I remember the HD Fat Boy I tried a few weeks back which is supposed to be 690mm. Can anyone confirm the height? 2. I'm 6ft and worried if this will be too low for me? Anyone else with one this tall and ok? Maybe its just a thing to get used too. Riding a BMW F650 at the moment which is fairly tall in comparison 3. Bike wil…

Hi guys I own an XVS 950 and it has a worrying knocking sound coming from behind the sprocket cover when you push the bike forward? It doesn't seem to do it when riding (or at least I cant hear it)...just when pushing the bike? Any Ideas? The drive belt is VERY tight....is this normal? There is very little to no play in the belt when the bike is stood...

For anyone with a Cobra 4" slip-on exhaust fitted to their XVS1300A I have measured the sound level as it comes out of the box and also with a Smartpartz Hard Kore quiet baffle fitted. Apologies to Clarkegray for reminding him of the joys of this bike and for not purchasing his pipe when I had the chance but I didn't know about this quiet baffle. I based my measurements on the American spec J2825 (you can find a Youtube clip on a guy doing the measurement - How to Perform a SAE J2825 Motorcycle Sound Test ). Whether this has any weight in the UK I doubt but it at least gave me a basis for measuring. I used an iPhone 4S with the app SPL Meter which is probably not ac…

Hi All, Apologies for making my first post a beg, but im having some real issues with this 2002 650 Dragstar im helping a firend with. It all started when the Datatag alarm that was fitted to it started playing up, and going off randomly. When we traced the cabling to try and remove the faulty unit, its connected to a bunch of black with white square cables in the battery compartment, none of which are labellled, and all blocks that may have been there appear to be cut off. The workshop manual shows nothing of these cables that i can see, and when checking them with a multimeter, there are permanent lives, switched lives, Kill switch lives, and …

Hi all, I am having a problem with my 93' 535 and am completely hopeless when it comes to fault diagnosis so i wondered if anyone out there could help? Last night while riding home i seemed to lose power, when trying to get to 70/75 mph the bike would not go over 65 (usually no problem reaching 85/90 ) thinking back it did seem a bit sluggish during the earlier part of my journey but not enough to cause me any concern, I gave it another try this morning and managed to get to 70 after some trying, but when it got there I still had a third of the throttle left so i opened it up and took it to fully open without any change of speed at all and not much change in en…

Can anyone help me!? I can't get my dragstar 650 classic started anymore. I know it's a fuel problem because no fuel is getting into the carburetors. It's turning over but engine just won't fire. I have replaced the fuel, the fuel filter, the oil, the oil filter, the air filter, the fuel pump relay, the battery, the spark plugs, and I've had the carbs professionally cleaned. I've also tested the fuel pump by connecting it straight to the battery and it worked. None of the fuel lines seem blocked either. im running out of things to replace thanx!

Greetings from Poland. I wrote last year about how I can't get a Cat. A driving licence here on account of too great a difference in acuity of vision between eyes (100% in right, 30% in left with glasses on), so I'm stuck with Cat. B, which allows you to drive cars and motorbikes up to 125cc / 15 BHP. So to get my dream bike, I had my Drag Star XVS 125 customised by Unikat 1of1.pl Motorworks down in Wroclaw. The aim was to capture the spirit of the post-war Indian Road Chief. New mudguards (with Indian warbonnet running light in front), handlebars, saddle; smaller, fatter front wheel, fishtail exhaust. Original mechanicals unchanged, though final drive amended to give low…

Hi all I had a rear head issue which required a replacement but when I went to set timing I found that both front and rear were out by about half a tooth so moving back or forward a link didn't line it up with the timing notch exactly. Talking to a few experienced bike mechanics hasn't clarified if this is ok or not as one says ok and one says not. If not what would cause this. Chains are in good condition . Xvs650 dragstar Classic . 2003. Thanks for any help
