I've owned a 2004 TT600R for the last year. I use it for commuting approx. 20miles 3 or 4 times a week. It always sounds laboured when starting although once started it runs fine. I've just had a full service but this has done nothing to make it a more confident starter. It's worse in winter and if left for more than a week it's touch and go whether it'll start at all. It's only got 6k on the clock. I'm aware that previous/original models were fitted with a kick start. Is anyone aware whether or not it's possible to fit an e start 2004 model with an aftermarket kickstart? I'm not too mechanically minded being limited basics servicing etc. Any ideas would be appreciated…

Hey guys, I'm looking for some honest advice here. I'm ready to purchase my first and most likely last bike for a very long time. 100% of my riding will be trail. I'm 6ft, 170lbs. So far I have narrowed the search down to the WR and XCF. As mentioned, I'm looking for some honest advice. I'd prefer not to hear go blue or go home. Not only am I torn between the yami and ktm, I'm also wondering if the 250 is enough or should I go to the 450. I have ridden in the past but that was 15 years ago. For all intense and purposes you can call me a newbie. The problem I have is I don't want so much bike that I'll be afraid to hop on the thing but I also don't want to "out grow" t…

Hi. Does anyone know if the rear wheel from the 77-ish xt500 (with aluminum rim) or even the later-model dtmx rear wheel (also with aluminum rim) will bolt onto a 75/76 dt400 (which comes stock with steel rim)? The wheel bearing ID is the same. I understand that the monoshock dts have a different brake backing plate but a xt one (and maybe one from a 75/76 dt as well) will likely fit. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

If anyone here has a manual for either of these models, would you mind very much looking up the resistance (in Ohms) spec for the stator. I just can't see buying the manual just for this spec. Thanks, Ken

Hi All, Have just bought a 1998 DT125R and have noticed a slight (?) problem with it. I was hoping one of you more knowledgeable folk could help. When I start the bike, the oil warning light comes on and stays on, when the bike is in neutral. As soon as I select a gear, the oil warning lamp goes out (as does the neutral light). There is plenty of oil in the tank. I was wondering if it might be an electrical problem in the clock unit maybe, as the oil warning lamp seems to come on and off with the neutral lamp? Or is this supposed to happen and the bike is trying to tell me something? I don't have an owners manual, and the Haynes manual says nothing about it. Ca…

I have just aquired a 1973 CT3 175 Enduro from a friend. The bike is in near perfect condition with only 2,200 miles on it. It occured to me that back in '73 there was lead in the fuel. I have read a couple of posts using the search feature on this site but have not come up with a difinitive answer for a bike of this year and model. It would be a shame to damage a bike like this due to lack of knowledge. Should I be running fuel additives in this bike and what kind? I also have read that octanes were different. Is 93 octane and a booster of some sort recomended. This bike probably will not have a ton of miles put on it so the cost of fuel per gallon is not important. Prot…

Hi anyone, I've torn down a 1994 yz250 two cycle engine only to find a burned piston and rod bearing. The crank case sections are apart. I need to pull the crank. Do I have to use the Yamaha "screw out the crankshaft tool" or is there another method to remove the crank from the right side? I have another spare crank and rod, so all I have to do is swap. Also, is installation the reverse of removal? Any proven methods would be appreciated. Many Thanks!

Hi everyone, I just joined a few days ago. Anyways my bike is an old 1978 IT 250 dirt bike. I got it from a friend of mine as it didn't run anymore and I started repair work on it but he lost interest and just let me have it. Anyways, what I am looking for is information on the cylinder jug. The piston had tons of play in it and so I removed the head, piston, piston pin, and cylinder. Anyways I removed the cylinder and piston so that my friend could take it somewhere and have it rebored and a new oversize piston could be ordered so that I could put it all back together and get the bike running good. Long story short, the cylinder was at his parents house wh…
