Hi. I have been riding my yamaha dt 125 now for around 2 months. It is a 1991 model. It has been leaking oil now for about a month, anyway, last night i was riding and suddenly i lost all power and had to pull over. I tried to kick start it but it was making a strange clunking noise and wouldnt start. I then went to bump start it but again it made a very strange noise and then died. I got it home after pushing it 2 miles and tried kick starting it again, the kick start stuck after about a third of the way down. My dad put it down to running out of engine oil and the engine has 'seized'. Whats everyones thoughts, how much would it cost to get it fixed at a mechanic? Or…

I have a 1980 Dt 125 that I bought a few weeks ago for a $100.00 that is in great shape and with a liitle carb clean runs great but getting it to run is a different story. It will not start by kicking it over I have to run it down the street a few times and dump the clutch for it to even try to run and when it does finally start it runs like crap I have to keep the throttle held wide open for it to stay running and it runs like it is choked if its warmed up but after driving it around for a few minutes like that it starts to run good but when I go to cold start it is nearly impossible to get it going. Any ideas on what might be wrong would be deeply appreciated thanks

Howdy again! During the summer I picked up a dirt cheap DTR that turned out to be a bit ropey, I had plans to tart it up a bit, maybe get it on the road etc etc...anyhow the frame is still sitting in my garden with the engine locked in by a bastard of a pivot bolt that I just can't shift. Here's the DTR... Then this week a mate offered me an F reg '89 DT for a £100 with a seized engine. So I went and got it. Now the questions. Will the engine fit? Are there any other bits I can use from my DTR on the DT? Ta! Lewis

Hello again, not sure if anyone remembers me but anyway my dt125r will not start, ive tried evrything that i can think off. the 3 main things the bike needs which are spark fuel and compression are there, it just will not start. what happened was, the bike was running absolutely fine. with the ypvs jammed open because the pulley was snapped so i had to wedge to pulley in a stiff position so it wouldnt move. i bought a new pulley and fitted it, reconnected the servo, switch igniiton on and the powervavle would not do that check thing where it makes a zip zip noise or whatever. okay so i kicked it over and revved it to 7k to see if it would start working which i…

Gday, when i purchased this bike it ran rough, but did run consistently. no upon trying to start i cannot get a spark. the electrics are all working, and the spark plugs have been replaced. I know the condensor can be the cause of this problem but are there any other things that impact it? ignition timing etc? If so a little guidance on how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated

As I said before, I'm not too skilful offroad. My boy was having a potter round, he got off for a break, and I jumped on the little DT just to rev it a bit. Course I had no helmet on and foolishly decided to wheelie up a slippery bank. Bad idea really....I'm not sure exactly what happened but I think the back end slid from under me. Somehow I got launched over the handlebars and landed heavily on the side of my face. So now I've got various cuts, bumps and bruises....and what looks to be a black eye coming! Plus my neck must have got twisted and I've got quite a bad headache. My fault completely....no offroad skill and no helmet! Course the incident…

  10. Hi, i just bough a pair of front sprocket for my 1976 dt175 on ebay but there seem's to be a problem: The sprocket is not as thick as the original, or as thick as the rear sprocket(that i also bought on ebay from another vendor). I suppose the sprocket will fit on the shaft but is it going to be ok with the chain?? I should ride a 428 size chain as original... Will my front sprocket just use prematurely or will it break? or will my chain break because of a smaller pressure point? there is a slack from side to side, is there chance that the chain skip out? Even the teeth seems(ARE) not as high... as you can see in these... the new front sprocket t…

Hi, have been trying to get the fueling right on my new, old DT125MX. I have used the Haynes manual data sheet main jet, a 130 and adjusted the float height to the recommended 21mm. On the 2nd from top needle notch the engine was bogging down still around 5,000 revs, have gone down to top notch this morning and much better but still slight bogging down so will try a 125 main jet and lowest notch on the needle ( am I doing this right? ). Now that I am able get into the high rev range, couldn't before with the 140 jet fitted it came with, a new problem is occuring. I am only able to sustain short periods of high revs, the engine will die and i will have to wait for what fe…

Hi, I would like some advice with a custom tail tidy that i'm making for my Dt125re. The question is what angle can a number plate be mounted at and still be legal? I have seen some high angles on the internet e.g Is this legal? Compared to the original I have googled with no joy and also emailed the DVLA and the reply i got was a pdf going on about the number plate size and number spacing etc. no use at all really. Has anybody had any experience with a bike with a number plate angle like the top image i.e mot/police/insurance difficulties.? Any help or thoughts are welcomed. Vez.

So as I mentioned before... I was going to re-spray the bike, not doing the same scheme after all but going for this colour *see bottom of post! (All ordered, plenty of the flip colour as well as base coat and Lacquer!). All lights have been ordered (Polisport), but best bit is... My friend who is a sparky by trade is building me a loom from scratch! (WOOOOT!). Other mods are Hpires Rad scoops. Hpires Tail Piece with an RFX Tail Tidy, YZF 450 / YZ 250 Front mudguard (2010 model). Acerbis fork socks are being ordered next week as is an ASV clutch lever!! So it's coming along rather well now!! I think I'm going to go for gold rims at some point but the amount I've …

Hi there, New to this forum and looking for help if possible. i have recently purchased a DT 125R LC well so im lead to believe. i will post pics soon. any way my problem is that the bike wont kick start. does not have key or electric start as its a field MX bike. i have checked and im getting a good spark. i have compression. im getting fuel from the tank to the carb and ive also stripped and cleaned the carb. but the bike wont start even with a bump start. i tried pouring a little fuel down theplug hole directly into the cylinder. when i done this the bike fired up then cut out. so my thoughts are that the engine is drawing air and not inducing fuel through the crankcas…

I've just bought a new helmet. I wanted it last year but everywhere was out of stock so I bought a traditional MX helmet. I still like my old helmet, but I must admit I am really impressed with this one. It even has flip down sun glasses which will come in handy, also it was great value for the money I paid. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WULFSPORT-2013-PRIMA-SPEED-MX-ENDURO-DUAL-SPORT-MOTOCROSS-MOTORCYCLE-WULF-HELMET-/190736997009?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Helmets&var=&hash=item2c68cf9a91

new A2 license = Medium motorcycles up to 35 kW (and a power-to-weight ratio not more than 0.2 kW per kg), bike mustn’t be derived from vehicle more than twice its power. Any ideas what off road bikes fall into this category now then? i have been looking around and it would appear they have really done us over on this one, almost none of the bigger engine MX bikes even come close to meeting these lets say 'very specific' power and power to weight ratio's (mainly the power to weight being an issue). Also it would seem that in order to restrict a bike down to these is going to have to be a dyno job as the only kits i can find are for 33 BHP and with some of these …

I'm thinking of replacing the chain and sprockets on my XT 125 X and contemplating whether to go two teeth up on the rear sprocket. I found out that the R model has exactly the same front sprocket and chain length but 50 teeth instead of 48 for the rear. I know I am to expect a little loss in top end but most of my riding is done in city roads so I could do with more bottom end (acceleration). This probably isn't a fair assessment of speed because the R model has a bigger front wheel but just hoping to get a rough idea of its top speed on the road.

Sorry for posting this in three different places, just wasn't sure what to do. Just got my Yamaha DT125 R 1999. I have a little problem with it, it runs fine at low revs but as soon as it gets to around 6000 revs it bogs out, also as soon as the throttle is opened fully it does exactly the same. It's not a restriction as the amount of revs it bogs at changes every time. Thought it was a dirty carb but its not that as had it all cleaned up and didn't stop the bogginess. Been told it could be my coil so I've brought a new coil. Any other ideas on what it could be?

Hi all. I'm new to site so sorry if I'm in the wrong end but thought I'd start with my electrical dt 400 woes and let someone guide my through! This bike runs, lights, horn all work, no blowing bulbs etc. 2nd battery now and both seem to of chucked the fluid out through vent pipe. Having to top up regularly but I am only just re commissioning with short road blasts. I'm a novice but can say charge looks good with lights on and revs up but no charge in daytime lights out. Something obvious to look for? Corbstar uk.
