Just got my XT350 on the road after re-building it from a field bike but I've a problem with the speedo not working. The cable came with the speedo and it was supposed to be off an XT350, it all fits up ok but the speedo doesn't work. I tried disconnecting the cable at the drive end and putting the drive pin on the cable into the cordless drill but this didn't turn the speedo so i re-connected the cable to the speedo drive and left the speedo end off, spun the wheel but the cable doesn't turn. Also with the cable connected up to the speedo drive you can't turn the cable by hand so it is engaged. Anyone got any suggestions what to try next? Thanks

I think the oil pump is not working on my DT 400(1978 I think), I'm thinking I can just mix the gas. What ratio should I use? the electrical doesn't work either, do I need a fully charged battery? I've lost the key, but I can move the switch to start and ride the bike. Maybe I can't move the switch far enough to get the lights to work? The bike has been sitting around for a few years, I'm just trying to get it going to teach my son to ride bikes (he's a teenager). Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I exhausted the search option on the forum, so I hope this isn't a repeat of something someone else has already asked. So, yesterday, I bought a 1978 DT175E in running condition for $350.00. It had been sitting in a garage and hadn't run in 6 years. After a few kicks and with the choke full on, it finally started. But, as you can imagine, it wasn't a happy camper. It had what the guy described a "pretty fresh" 2-cycle oil in the reservoir. I put clean gas in it with some Seafoam. I also dumped the pan oil and replaced it with some fresh dino oil and a little Seafoam in there, too. I also pulled the carb, disassembled it and cleaned all the pilots and j…

Evening all Ive got an 2009 tenere xt660z and have read somewhere that the sprocket ratio isnt that good for off road/ normal riding. I havnt done that many miles on it yet but soon going to the Americas to do 30000 miles on all types of surfaces! I think the standard ratio is 15/45. Has any one changed theirs and for what reason or do you thing the standard is fine? Any opinions welcome. Thanks

Hey guys, Few months back I picked up a (I think 75ish) Yamaha DT250, pretty rough, but only $200. Looks like it has had the crap butchered out of it. No electrics left, no injector oil tank, but, it had compression and was otherwise mostly complete. Someone had put on a plastic gas tank. Cleaned it up a bit, made up some pre-mix (About 35:1). Didn't have any spark. Pulled off the flywheel and found some mud stuck between the points. They're pretty pitted/worn, I will replace them, but in the mean time, cleaned them up, pulled the plug and grounded it, and ended up with ok spark. ANyways, long story short got it running, it will rev up and will get through the …

Hi, have just resprayed a petrol tank in Halfords petrol resistant lacquer but feel it needs another coat. The instructions say it cant be re done afterwards but I did a test bit on the underside of the tank and it appears fine. Reluctant to do the rest of the tank until checked with someone who might have done it before. What is supposed to happen when you try to put another coat on, is it safe to try? Phil

Anyone in the UK got a lead on where to get hold of fork gaiters? Pattern would be fine. I measured the ones on the bike (no idea if they are original or pattern) and they are 270 x 30 x 45. Can't see this size on e-bay. Cheers Lee

Hi, I've just signed up and would like to introduce myself... if anyone cares I've been riding bikes since the mid 70's ( started on a Puch VZ50 if anyone remembers them.. ) various BSAs, Triumphs, an amazing RD400, Moto Morini 3 1/2, Dneiper, XS750, KLR250 amongst others, and more recently BMW F650GS. And now I'm also the proud owner of an '81 DT175MX. I live in Bulgaria and love touring and riding trails which we have pretty much free access to here,(hence the DT as the BMW is just too heavy and I'm embarrassed to be overtaken by teeneagers on their dirt bikes). My Mrs and I also happen to run a bike friendly backpacker hostel in case anyone needs a bed or a garag…

I recently bought my DT125RE 2004 over a week ago, I paid £825.00 for the bike, taxed and tested, the lad who I bought it off had not looked after the bike and had no clue what so ever as you can see by the rear light wiring lol, although from the first picture, it looks in good order however, thers alot of work which needs doing, I could of just ridden it how it was but I like a good looking bike tbh. I started striping the bike down last week and it is now fully stripped, engines on the bench in need of a good clean, I will post a before and after picture when a get chance, the other pictures aren’t very good they where only for my reference, I have just got my swing …

Ok, i'm a fairly happy bunny in that i have the bike MOT'd, insured and taxed and its goes but ....... its now driving me mad. It keeps cutting out at junctions which is embarassing me now and knocking my confidence. Ive adjusted the throttle stop screw and i can get the bike to idle at 1500-2000 revs but then when you pull the throttle its stutters and dies. I then adjust it to 2000-3000 revs and its fine so i take it out for a blast round the roads and its cuts out when you come to pull away from a junction. It mainly happens or 99.9% happens when the choke is off even when the engine is warm. I havent adjusted the pilot screw as I would rather ask before adjusti…

Hello all, I just joined seeking help with a little project I'm getting myself into. See, I just bought a little motorcycle called a Sachs MadAss. It came with a broken 50cc engine and my plan is to swap something different into it. They come with a Chinese copy of the old Honda "monkey bike" engine, sometimes called the CRF50, in either 50 or 125cc. There are a number of hot engines available from various Chinese engine suppliers ranging from 140cc to 160cc. But I'm not interested in a cheap little Chinese engine. I've always wanted a two-stroke motorcycle and this bike is just so small and light it would be like a dirt bike for the street. With the engine bu…

Hello... I've recent bought a DT125LC Mk2 'field bike' which I intend to restore, and put back on the road. The seller says it is a 'B' or 'C' '85' or '86' DT125 LC Mk2. I won't actually see it until tomorrow as its an EBAY buy, but from what I have seen in the photo's there does not seem to be much difference between the Mk1 & Mk2, albeit I see that the radiator on the Mk2 has a small fairing in the right. As expected its missing the clocks, side panels, and the small fairing over the radiator. I know that early DT's are now like hens teeth (I've just started to restore an '83' plate DT125MX and it seemed that there are still plenty of parts for the 125/175MX). D…
