HI Guys I am getting there as regards to the learning curve I have found myself in. I've completely cleared the bike of Exmoor mud now I found a huge clump of it in the air box and on filter too I've drained & cleaned the oil reservoir cleaned carb and dried all the water out of the oil pump housing. I noticed on a previous post that its easy to bleed the oil pump is it the obvious screw head that's at the front to the top left? Also i've bought a new ignition barrel/switch with 9 connectors (2 Boxes) I can only find 2 wires connected to a normal spade switch Does this sound like a rewire job? Hope someone can give guidance. Cheers Geo I will post photos …

Took the dt 175 to quarry to scrub land for a quick do. The danm thing stopped. Its normally ok. I had a new plug, but nothing, just a tantalizing little rev and then nothing. I had to push it back, a steep hill which I had to tack up for a long way. It nearly put my lights out, so I quickly bought a long-overdue trailer. Got one of those that break down in mins to go in the car, can be single or double, very good. Anyway, I gets around to looking at the job. Firstly, sometimes spark then not. So whipped the flywheel off. The points were deep pitted. I trimmed em back to shape with a diamond file, getting then even, but still the same. I soldered on a new condenser. The s…

Interesting chat in the works canteen today. After solving the problems of politicians taking the "chums" around the world at taxpayer expense (dont these people ever learn) pretending to be working for the nation, topic switched to ethanol in petrol. One chap was at stafford at the weekend, a number of people commenting that older bikes with brass components in the fuel system finding those components rotting away, allegedly due to the ethanol content. I am led to believe that the % content in petrol is destined to increase as govts strive to further cut emissions, so if true, the problems may get worse Do the petrol companines all put the same % content in their…

Hi everyone. its been a hard day, i now have a new hobby where i buy and sell generators and petrol powered equipment, basically i bought some generators ars spares or repair, most of them run but there are two that as of so far have beat me... 1:) SIP Medusa 950 generator, two stroke, spins over, has spark, has fuel, will not start 2:) SIP Medusa 950 generator, two stroke, spins over, sparks, used to run if petrol was put down the spark plug hole but now it doesnt start at all even if span over with a drill,. im at my wits end with these two, the other units i bought used to come to life after a few pulls and a bit of persuasion with some petrol down the plug '…

Hi all i am after a rd500lc ihave looked at several and body wise they needed alot of work, finding good panels seems to be big problem so i have steered away from ones needing plastics, ive seen one with fibreglass panels but syed away as i thought it could be a problem to sell on one day,am i right?.has anyone got some good sound advice on what to look out for regading mechanicals,i have an ear for piston slap and grumbly bottom ends, but am not sure just how much smoke should be omitted which is deemed acceptable.also apart from the obvious colour schem diffence and engine restiction difference between uk bikes and imports is there anything else i should be looking for? …

Hi everyone, Sorry that the site has been down without any explanation. It's completely my fault, I thought the upgrade I was performing was going to be a typical 15min job. As it was late at night in the UK, I didn't think anyone would be on the site so just started the upgrade without setting the board offline. Which explains why the board is down. Unfortunately it wasn't a quick upgrade like normal, and ended up taking about 12 hours work! Anyway I am also in the process of installing some new anti spam software to work alongside the existing IPB spam software which should help eradicate the unwanted spam users we've been getting over the last few days. Tha…

Newbie here, recently got XT125R to commute to work. It has Arrow exhaust fitted and sounds really nice but whoever has fitted it its not professionally done. Its pipe has white coloured cracked sealant where exhaust joins the head and looks like not sealed properly. Anyway I have two problems they could be related but not sure. First there is engine oil leak which seems to be everywhere in the engine area. Everything has black moisture and seems to be wet. A few drop will be on the floor if I leave my bike for sometime. Unable to find origin of leak. Can a badly fitted exhaust leak oil, I am not a mechanic, always thought exhaust won't have any form of oil whatsoever,…

  10. Hi peeps the title explains the thread, seeing as how engine layout seems to give the biggest difference in power/torque and general riding style, if you could have only one bike what layout would you want it to have?

Hi, I got free gloves thrown in with the deal on my bike. They seem ok, but I am suffering from numb fingers in the morning - espcially the 2nd and 3rd finger on the right hand. Would investing in a decent pair of gloves prevent this, or could I be holding the handlebar grips incorrectly? Sorry if this seems obvious, just wondering.

I live in a big old house which has been converted into three flats. I have been keeping my bike in the hallway but I asked my neighbours beforehand and they were fully understanding and had no problems at all with it. I've got home today and I've got a letter from the landlord wanting to speak to me about it, I know it's a fire hazard etc. I'm gutted now I'm going to have to keep it outside chained to a metal fence. It's going to be a sought after target for bike thieves.

after reading reviews and looking at pictures of peoples bikes on here and other forums ive decided on an xj6 diversion in black, i have an 05 fz6 fazer at the moment which i bought new, its on its second set of steering head bearings, ive heard about alot of fz6,s with similar problems of them wearing out quick. they are one their way out again and now ive had enough and although its a great bike and in seven years ive only done 28,000 miles on it, i feel its time for a change, i test rode an xj6 and loved it, very smooth riding and didnt seem that much slower than the fz. These days most of my riding is commuting to work apart from the odd ride out here and there, mayda…

Hi all! Hopefully it's OK for me to do this (and do it here). If not please put me in my place. I realize this auction is about to end so there may not be time for a lot of advice. However, it's the exact year RD350 I'm dreaming of and it shows that it's in in my vicinity! How high do you all think it would be worth going (if the bidding gets off)? I know it won't be as fun as building my own, but at least I'll have something that I can ride on the highway without struggling to get up to the 55-65 speed limit... at least until I can get my own bike built. I'm not sure about the wire behind the motor or why he would do that. ?? I also don't like the routing of the front br…

hey guys i gotta 1977 yamaha DOHC 500 twin motorcycle and its in mint condition! has about 5000 miles. the tank has a nasty dint and i dont know if you can pop that out or something but the motor is stuck solid. ive tried everything, diesel was just a joke, sea foam didnt do anything, ive even tried CLR but nothing, brake fluid trans fluid did nothing aswell. its a good bike but it was sitting in a shop for 30 years. ive heard steam works because the metal will expand and break away from whatever is making it stick. if you guys have any suggestions please let me know! thanks!
