Right. Now i have my new chain had a bit of a look at it. Comes with one of those link pin/link things. Now its been a l o n g time since I replaced a chain. Thinking I may need to break the chain to get it off the XJ600. Then fix this new chain with link properly. Now I wondering what is the best tools for the job. New link is easy. Just put the wee washers on properly & use long nose pliers to clip link in securely ( in proper direction etc) But the old chain. haven't looked to see if its continuous or not but IF it is what would you recommend as the best proper tool for breaking/joining for long term ? ( Future bikes may have continuous cha…

How often should you clean your chain. Got a ybr thats a year old and the chain still looks well oiled.I spray chain lube on it after heavy rain but should i be taking the old clogged up oil off with a chain cleaner, applying new oil and lube to keep the chain in good nick or just wait till it really needs it and can see the first inkling of rust?

Hello, After my bike's 600 mile service, the clock is nearly reading 1500 miles. I think it's time to clean and lube my chain but I've never done it before, can someone post some tips on how to do this? I'm thinking of using a can of WD-40 with a rag to clean the chain and then spray some Wurth Dry Lube on it which I've bought the other day. Also, I don't have a stand for my bike so what's the best way in doing this on my own?

Hello all, still pretty new to having a proper motorbike, a wr125x, compared to the mopeds I've had previous! So, I've just used up the last of my chain lube... I'm rather confused as to what brand/type is the best for this horrible English weather! What do you guys use for winter time? I ride everyday about 20 miles or so to work and back everyday so I'm cleaning and lubing up the chain every few days or so! thanks guys!!

I'm having trouble deciding whether or not to invest in one of the chain lube systems (scottoiler etc) or stick with the spray lubes. Are the automatic systems too messy ? If spray on is better, which type: thick and sticky or a thinner one.. Any advice would be helpfull. cheers sim666

Hi Guys, Ok, the bike's nearly ready to go back and get a proper MOT. I've picked up the forks with the new seals and fitted them today and rectified everything on the list bar 2 things.... one is just a bolt, so no worry there. My quandry is the chain...... the guy mentioned that it was too loose and gaps were showing around the rear sprocket. I've had the chain off and lubed it up, put it back on and tensioned it up...... but there are still gaps around the sprocket, though only at the bottom half. How do I remedy this, or what does it mean? Is it a stretched chain? Any help will be greatly appreciated...... Cheers!!! (",)

Hi guys, When commuting in London I am constantly changing up/down gears, but I have noticed that when I am in the lower gears if I release the throttle but do not brake (engine is providing braking obv), when I re-apply the throttle there is a thud as the chain is grabbed. Is this poor throttle/clutch management on my part, or something to be expected? Also, my throttle has a lot of play in it (christofeser is kindly helping me out with this at a later date), to the point where if I want to pin it I have to adjust my grip forward to then pull down further; this means however that when I go to change gear, I go to close the throttle but because I have had to twist i…

Hi all I am looking for info on a chain to shaft drive box,I believe there was a Yamaha that had this drive unit fitted but I cannot for the life of me remember what model it is/was. So the question is did Yamaha ever have a bike that had a chain drive motor and a shaft drive wheel,I am looking for the conversion unit and would like to know what to look for and are they as rare as hens teeth or made from unobtanium?? Hiya all.... For fear of asking a silly question, it is a Friday after all so will ask it any ways... I'm an XT125 owner (nearly)..... which means i've now managed to rebuild my box of bits into something that resembles an XT and the machine burst into life last weekend when power was applied....so now its a case of fitting the last few bits.... one of which is the chain/sprokets... I ordered up a chain set and when it arrived i noticed it is a continuous chain with a soft link.... my question is, not wishing to now go to the expense of a slitting tool, is it possible to replace the soft link with a split link and get a bike garage to split the chain for me so i …

I removed the rear wheel to replace the tire. After reinstalling the wheel the clutch will not disengage. When i pull on the lever, every thing moves back an fourth. It did seem looser then before the tire change. I tighten the slack nuts on the lever but still no change. With engine off, I can put it in gear and back to neutral with the foot clutch petal. when the engine is on, it catches an stalls out when i put it in first gear. It has a drive shaft. Could i have hit some thing or not put it back together right? Im stumped, i thought they were two different things.

I am thinking of changing my bike, I have an XJ750 (pre divi) that is 30+ years old now and it's really a good bike but getting a bit long in the tooth for long runs, so I was thinking of buying an FJR 1300A or the Honda 1300A ST Pan, I have not ridden either of these and wondered if any of you have and what did you think of them, I have checked out the forums on both of these and there seem's to be no major problems other than the FJR has some issues with minor vibration from the engine/frame? what ever that means. I would like to hear from any of you that have any thoughts on either of these or even what you think might be a good alternative, I am really looking to do s…

I have a 2007 TTR 125 with a 150cc big bore kit. It currently has a stock 13T on it and I want to change it. I'm thinking about putting a 10T on it, and I've found many that fit but most of them say they're for pit bikes. Is it a bad idea to put a counter sprocket this small on my bike?
