Hi everyone. quite a while to wait until im 17 but im starting to consider my options in regards to personal transport. The DT will be going soon after my b'day and i've been quoted £250 to insure me on my Jawa 350 (TP F&T) which would be ideal as it shouldn't take more than £100 to get the jawa tarted up and running. however, im starting to consider getting a small car as i dont quite fancy freezing my tits off by riding through another winter, Ford Capri 1600 Laser would be nice but thats £2,500 to insure and no doubt will need the floorpans welding back in at some point or another. so i looked at the insurance for a Peugeot 106, bit more reasonable as i…

Oh well, thought i'd sorted my flooding issue but alas the carbs have got to come off. Its a complete arse of a job almost as bad as a TDM. Pipes galore and you have to take half the bike to bits to boot, tank, seat, exhausts, rad, all bodywork. All for a little bit of crap stuck in the float. Gutted.

Hello, my name is Harvey and I own a 1987 Yamaha dt50mx that I am currently restoring. The old barrel on the bike was scortched and getting piston slap so I decided to buy a 70cc airsal kit. I found out that the VM20-273 mikuni carbs are recommended for my setup but was unable to find out what I should have my needel height or pilot jet set to. If anyone has any known information on this please leave a reply - Harvey

Hey So I took the carb apart, replaced the O ring, the needle valve set and the gasket. I cleaned it up well with carburetor cleaner. Put it back together and now my bike start with choke and one kick. The thing is that the RPMs are really high and if I try to push the choke back in, the rpms get out of control. This doesn't make sense to me since I thought that when you pull the choke out is when you engage it and a richer mixture of gas goes in. For a moment I thought the accelerator cable was caught on something or too tight to I loosened it, but nothing. I tried playing with the air intake and the idle but no luck . And I followed the direction on the …

Hello all, Ive just bought an '05 DT125re yesterday. And I have 2 questions I need help with; First being am i correct in thinking that the choke lever pushed down is the choke on? second being a little more 'techy'. sometimes the bike dies when at tick over. not instantly but just fades out after about 10-15 seconds. From what i know the bike was serviced and MoT'd last month so I'm assuming it is nothing major but I also know that the bike hasnt really been used over the past 6 months. Ive read a little bit into it and apprently it could be a build up for gunk in the carb? easily solved by taking it apart and giving it a good clean. Is this an easy job to …

I am looking into purchasing a set of vacuum gauges to sync my carburetors up. i was specifically looking at this set on ebay. how can i tell if these will work on my bike? will i need a special adapter to make them screw into the vacuum synchronizing screw hole? how will i know when they are set properly? neither the haynes nor the yamaha manual really explain how to make sure that they are set correctly. i want to learn to do this myself, but its difficult when i cant get any good (idiotproof) information. thanks. jeff

I have not been here in some time, but I have a question about rejeting two carbs instead of all 3. the reason is that I put on a new set of 3 into 1 pipes. the right and ctr carbs are much shorter than the left pipe. The pipes are from MAC Pipe co. Ithink that the back pressure is so much less on the right and ctr cyls because of short pipes because the plugs are tanish white on both and the plug on the left cyl is normal color. this is after running 70 mph for 10 miles and killing the engine with kill switch and throttle in same place, with clutch in. So is it smart to put in 1 or 2sizes larger jets on those 2 carbs ? Any help is welcomed, thanks Jim

Greetings to all, I have recently purchased a 1982 xj550, which has only 4500 miles. It looks great and the previous owner says it ran very well. The problem seems to begin with the fuel petcock, the shaped hose( I assume is a vacum line) is missing so the petcok only flows in the prime position. The bike is difficult to start and then will only run at higher idle. It definitely seems to be a fuel issue. Has any one heard of a similar problem? What do you all think? Many heads are better than one. Also where can I find the missing hose and where does it attach. I am in general familiar with motorcycles but this is my first dealing with this specific type. Thanks for the h…

Hey guys , i recently purchased a Yamaha TW 125 only to find there was a slight problem. Whenever i put the choke in, the bike would cut out, so i took it down to a local mechanic, he had a gander and said i'm missing a mixture screw from the carberettor. Unfortunately i have no idea what this is so i looked online to find a spare and found a diagram sheet for the carb where you can purchase spares, i have have no idea which one the mixture screw is so if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated , cheers Carb diagram sheet. http://www.yamahascooterspares.co.uk/spares/epc2.asp?PageiD=8&modelID=9794
