hopefully, nobody has been there, but it can happen to anyone i recently ran out of engine RIGHT AFTER my 4000 mile service. i had ridden the YBR home, got changed, and set off to work. the bike stalled strangely as i accelerated away from a set of lights (didnt stop moving), started the bike up again, then lost all power 200 yards later. then i was stuck on a 50mph road, just after a roundabout, with high kerbs keeping me from bumping up, and no drop kerb for another 100 yards. i decided that the engine was in fact dead, and pushed it to the nearest drop kerb (not behind me at the roundabout, i want forward 100 yards), made a couple of calls, then set off home, …

Well, I picked up my Fazer today from Bike543 in Oldham. Just ridden back to Leeds in the peeing rain, come off M621 brake and there's vibrations throughout the handlebars. By the time I get to my house it seems more noticeable (though not really used brakes on motorways unlike riding through city traffic). Pop it on centre stand at home, pull front wheel forwards & backwards and there's loads of movement. Very surprised as they had it MOT'd last week for me to pick up. Does make me wonder if there's anything else up with it...? Anyway, I've given them a call & they said they'll get back to me. Hopefully won't take too long as was looking forward to getting out …

  4. So I scan my local craigslist on occasion for a second DT to buy since I've been in and out of mine after a couple rebuilds and I figure I could whip one back into shape without all the head scratching/banging involved with my first one. This morning I spotted this: http://carbondale.craigslist.org/mcy/3509468340.html 2x 1978 DT 175s for $500. One runs, the other in parts. Here's my dilemma: I have $500 in my pocket right now, BUT I need to use it to pay down my university bill, otherwise I can't register, get my graduate degree, get a job, and make money. I could always just put the tuition on a credit card and use the cash for "just one more bike". An…

Hi guys I bought my DT as a winter commuter bike, Its being well used in all weathers, and I've clocked up over 280 miles already and I've only had it for 6 weeks. Now I'm looking at putting a rear rack on it for my works bag and chain etc, might even put a removeable topbox, but first i need a rack. I guess the chance of finding a new one specifically for the MX will be remote, nonetheless I thought I'd ask. Does anyone know if a another rack for another bike just happens to fit? or is it a case of make your own/DIY? or any other ideas. I found this photo on the net, i don't think it looks too bad at all. However, before anyone says don't do…

Today after 11 months of riding my bike was so fucked I had to rsort to a recovery truck. Luckilky I was covered through my insurance. With MCE I get free breakdown recovery within ten miles. It took three hours for the recovery truck to come and they tried their best to get out of sending one but I got one in the end. It was a bit silly really, a big fuck off recovery truck all for my little 125. Set off home and there was a clanking clunking metal sound and my back wheel was wobbling to fuck. I was approx 10 miles from home and I knew there was something seriously wrong. I had two options 1) Leave the bike in my girlfriends garage and pay for the motorcycle garage t…

Hi, I’ve always fancied an old classic bike. I’ve always liked the look of the old Triumphs, Nortons or the Francis Barnett as rode by Nick in Heartbeat! This is probably what attracted me in part to the Yamaha SR 125 as my first bike. I also notice that many people on here have bikes from ‘73 and so forth. Anyway, I was wondering are these bikes still practical as a main bike, day-to-day ride around, or only really workable as a weekend pleasure bike? Take for example the following bike: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FRANCIS-BARNETT-FALCON-199CC-CRACKING-RIDE-PLEASE-WATCH-THE-VIDEO-/321068073640?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item4ac12602a8 Is this something you co…

I have just been reading about ETHANOL fuel additives and the fact that we will soon have 10% instead of 5% in the UK, what seems to be the main consensus to all of this is that most old bikes (10 years old and older) will have some problems with this new fuel, my bike is 30+ years old and will need some major fettling to get used to this nasty gunk. First seems to be any bike with a fibre glass tank must use some of the new tank sealer now available, some of you might have already sealed your tank but if you have used anything from the last 5 years it will not protect your tank with this new stuff as it eats away even some older tank sealant then starts on the tank itsel…

HI, my brother's got a Yamaha YBR year 2008 and it takes a good 5 minutes to warm up every time, even if it's been running and then we stop for 10 minutes. I've told him it might be the battery. If you've got one of these bikes (or have any ideas) how does yours start up? I mean my 20 year old SR 125 starts up first time, every time on the button, you would have thought a 2008 YBR would do the same this is why I think it is the battery myself. Thanks.

I went to see this bike today and I'm considering buying it. Here's the dealer's description: "891cc, . This is probably the best XJ900F that we've ever had........and we've had a few !!! It's covered less than 25000 miles and is in pristine all round condition. It's been fitted with Krauser panniers and top box. The engine and gearbox are warrantied by us for a year, parts and labour. We can arrange delivery.. £2,499" It really is in pristine condition, and the dealer has also offered a 2 year guarantee on the engine and gearbox. I'm relatively new to bikes and would be grateful for any opinions on this model/year and whether you think this is a good deal! …

Hi. Bit of advice required if anyone can help. My near side rear indicator isn't flashing with full power and when it's on the tail light slightly pulses. Does it indicate (pun not intended) a short somewhere or is it just an under charged battery. I'm still waiting for a 6 volt charger which hopefully will be with me by middle of this week.
