Reading Fuff66UK's thread about him trying to find his first bike, and good luck to him finding it too btw, I got to thinking about my first bike, it was a Honda c50, me and my mate went halves on at £14 quid back in 77, and he kept it at his house cos he had a helmet, lol he's got a nice 'busa nowadays, the bastid, so what was your first bike, and I don't mean something you were riding off road at 11, but road legal aged 16 onwards? Uploaded with ImageShack.us Don't know about whether I'd want it today or not, I do wish though I'd kept my 750/4 k2 mind.

  3. How do you guys with the old DT's carry your cards? I've got nowhere to carry my Insurance Card & Registration Card on my 1978 DT125, unless i shove em somewhere the sun don't shine. lol. I kind of wanted to build a tiny Luggage Rack to mount behind the seat, something capable of hauling small items : Roll of Welding Wire (for a MIG Welder), Maybe a box of Spark Plugs for a Car, you know that kind of stuff. If I do that, I'll build a Glovebox under it to hold my cards. But until then, anybody have some suggestions?

Hi, I got a woodruff key today, so I think the alternator is all sorted. I tried wiring up one of the CDI's I have but I can't get a spark, is it possible to wire it up without going through the ignition/ kill switch or does it need bypassing some way? So basically I've got four wires from the CDI, two that go to the alternator and an orange one that goes to the ignition coil. What should I do with the remaining wire that would normally go to the main switch on the handlebars, should i be able to get a spark without this last wire? Of course the CDI might be knackered, can these be tested in any way? As I have a couple of them and I don't know if its this that;s not worki…

Hi Guys, My '89 DT125R has been standing for about 4 years before I got it. I have cleaned the carb fully and also cleaned the air filter. There is a bolt which wont come out on my DEP exhaust end so cant check whether the exhaust is coked up. Is it worth getting some de-coke solution to try and clean her out a bit, atm she doesn't run very well past 7k rpm and im thinking maybe she all gummed up insdie (oo-err). If they are worth trying can someone recommend a good de-coking solution to try? Is this stuff any good? :http://www.ecotek.eu/PowerBoost.htm Cheers in advance

Me again... I’ll try and keep this post to a minimum, me and a mate decided to go for a bit of a run over to thetford forest to go visit a friend who is recovering from a motorbike incident he had a few months back. When we got their we were welcomed in to his humble abode only to find what looked like thousands of photographs of various motorbikes he has owned over the years scattered over the coffee table. Five hours later, all three of us are smack bang in memory lane reminiscing about our past and present bikes. I bet there’s one or two of you on this forum that have found there selves doing the same thing, so if anybody feels like joining in with this post come…

I was given a 1977ish Yamaha TY 175 in need of restoration. I was wondering a) is the bike worth anything now, and, how hard would it be form me to convert it into a flat track bike? (or at least a dirt bike)

hello peeps When I bought my 89 DT 125r the guy said that they guy before him had swapped the engine for a 2002 engine. Im looking to do the top end on it but obviously the piston sizes differ from the original 89 engine and the newer ones. Is there an easy way to see if the engine is different to the original (with taking the head off and measuring the piston). I use this bike everyday as it is my only mode of transport so i need to keep the downtime to a minimum to enable me to get work etc. I would like to be able to order all the parts and do it all at once. Could i take the head off measure the piston and then put it back on with the original gaskets o…

Sadly, the Draggies gone, written off in the accidnet 3 weeks ago, so its down to one bike only. What a crackin little bike. Went out on the Virago yesterday for the first ride since. Shit, everytime someone was waiting to turn right across the road in front of me I felt like pullin up. Anyone else gone through this:unsure: Lovely weather though, went up around Whitworth/Griffydam/NW leics, ccol but glorious sunshine

hello everybody just the other day my DT125R developed a rather nasty habbit... it splutters, back fires and pops somin terrible through all gears, reaching a top speed of 45 compared to its origional 85! :'( the power valve still workes but its only amplifies the issue, to me this sounded like a delivery issue so here is what i have tried so far, carb float bowl and jets cleaned powervalve cleaned air filter cleaned fuel lines examined yet the bike remains to run like a complete bag of shite, iv had the bike for 4 months and have had endless problems but iv always managed to fix them but this one really has me stumped... it starts and runs fine…

Coming home from work last Tuesday I found it very difficult to change gear, more down than up. Luckily I managed to go through town in second/third gear without stopping. Thursday night I removed the clutch cover after hearing a very weird noise from that area. The problem was the clutch release bearing which is about the size and thickness of a flat washer. I did have this problem about three years ago shortly after buying the bike and left it to the dealer who sold me the bike and they charged me £187.00. It took me 1.1/2 hours to do it myself and cost me £10.00. There are two issues here. Is the thrust bearing up to the job? Did the Yamaha dealer rip me…

Dumb question, can't find an answer on google and waiting for Haynes manual to arrive - how much play should there be in the chain? Mine seems quite loose, almost touching in places. Also, I've been advised to keep checking some gap, but was only a passing comment and was called away so couldn't clarify - any ideas? Apparently common thing on these older SR's?

Hi All, Would not normally ask this but just wondering if anyone might know what a good price for a Yamaha RD350B might be? I only ask as I am selling one for my neighbour who has had it in his garage for the last 20 odd years, so as you can imagine it is more than a little dusty rusty and generally in poor condition, all the parts are there and it has a V5 from 1975 so a genuine candidate for a resto, but I have put it on to ebay and am snowed under with OFFERS! even tho I said no offers in the advert, bloody pointless putting it in there really! Still just curious what it might be worth as I am not now a stroker fiddler, used to be but like something slightly less manic…
