Alan the moped 'ALAN' - one of only 30 million ever made - It is widely believed (by me) that this unassuming little moped was the original training bike of the 'Ghost Rider' (please see photo 1 for documented proof) Looking resplendant in non-original Llama urine yollow and household apple white gloss this little fella has covered a mear 3463 miles from new, which cannot be verified of course. I inherited this vehicle from my late father in law who, to the best of my knowledge, never actually had it on the road. It was stolen by some oiks then 'recovered' for ten english pounds. Substantial damage was caused to the lighting/ignition 'module' (handle bar switch) …

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone could offer a little help on this. I have a 2001 Virago 250, and it only has spark intermittently. When it starts, it starts right up no problem and runs great. When it doesn't, it doesn't get spark and will turn over without a fire until the battery dies. It doesn't seem to change due to moisture or temperature either. I live right by the beach, and it does corrode do to the salty air, so I was wondering what would be the first thing you would check? I'm unfamiliar with the ignition system on this bike, and my online manual was on a different computer that crashed. I have already repaired the starter switch and foot brake light swit…

so i just bought an 09' Yamaha V-Star 1300 and i love it. My only question is, are the recommended shift points (given in the owners manual) are extreamly low and make it feel like my engine is bogging down. has anyone else noticed this and if so let me know your approximate shift points please! Happy riding.

Hello all, Just purchased a 1964 Yamaha YG1 80cc. Seem like a great little bike. Look forward to riding her. Just had a few questions that I was hoping someone could answer. What type of oil should I run in the gear box? I was reading that some people use 10W40 and even some use ATF in the 2 stroke gearboxes? I was leaning more towards the 10W40. What fuel to oil ratio should I use for premix? I think I read 20:1 on an old brochure I saw online...kind of hard to make out the text though. Also along with the gearbox oil, anybody know what the capacity is and how to tell how much is in there? There doesn't seem to be a dipstick or anything...at least th…

Hello All, A friend directed me to this site, hopefully to find someone who knows more about my "new" vintage purchase... a 1983 Venture Royale. The bike runs and rides well. The guy I bought it from never disclosed the lost gears, he told me it had its cosmetic problems, though. The plastics on the bike all needed repair, the seat needed to be reupholstered, a new head pipe, etc etc etc. I was fleeced and it is my fault for buying a bike in late Jan in new england and not being able to take it for a proper test ride. All the cosmetics are done, the bike was tuned, new plugs and such. I took it out for a shake-down ride two weeks ago and I have smooth shifts, neu…

I'm renovating a DT125R and had to replace the rear wheel. Now I have done that I CANNOT GET ANY PRESSURE FROM THE REAR BRAKE AND THE BRAKE DOES NOT OPERATE. The rear brake caliper is fixed to the wheel spindle, so when I removed the wheel I (probably incorrectly), I disconnected the rear brake cable from the caliper so that the caliper could be removed connected to the wheel spindle. I have now read that I have made some errors in the way I removed the wheel and in particular the rear brake caliper. The rear brake cable that I disconnected from the caliper has obviously leaked some brake fluid whilst the wheel was replaced. Now I have replaced the wheel/caliper…

Hi guys, 1st March got a brand new Yamaha YZF-R125, and love it, I wore the engine in properly, went over 6k revs sometimes by accident (more concerned with the road than my revs!) but I am sure it never went much over 6.5k for any longer than a second or two, I doubt it is THAT precise. Anyway, where I live the road camber is a bit of a bitch, and some mornings I dont give it enough juice, it stalls, fair enough, but when I push the starter again it just keeps going grgrgrgrgrgrgr and never turns on, and if it does it sounds slow and clunky, whereas if I switch it off, wait a few secs, and turn back on, its fine. Is this normal? Also, I know its only a 125, but at …

I just bought some 4" risers for my 1100 and the cables are too tight. I think I would have enough slack in the lines if I just rerouted them to the inside of the triple tree. Not quite sure the best way to do this. Do I undo each cable at the handle bar and move it around back? Do I remove the top of the triple tree? Will I have to bleed the brake line? I thought this was going to be a nice easy install, now I'm not so sure. Any help would be appreciated!

I just bought a 1996 XJ600 Seca II With 8,000 miles on it. When I got it it tried starting but wouldn't (carbs needed cleaned). Yesterday I spent all day very thoroughly cleaning the carbs, gas tank, petcock, blasted out all the fuel lines. I then reassembled it and tried to start it, I had to try cranking it for almost 20 minutes before finally it started. I rode it about 80 miles last night then parked it. This morning I go out to get on it and it wont start, Ive checked the ignition system and I have good spark on all 4 plugs. Tried jumping it off (in case the brand new battery was weak), didn't help. I definitely have fuel being pumped from the tank into the carbs and…
