I saw a picture of a guy who had the same bike as me. 08 XVS1100 Custom. He had this cool bronze or brass looking skull on the breather, kinda plaque looking thing. On the other side, there was another skull. I wrote and asked where he got them, no answer. I've been on-line, no luck. Anyone with an idea?? Where is a good site/company for yammer accessories. BTW. I put the Baron Oil filter relocator kit on and the bike runs sooooo much cooler now. I live in West Texas and head does make an impact. MM

  8. Not taking any unnecessary risks, the Yamaha riders made a cautious start. Olivier Pain was the first rider of the team to ride his WR450F Rally into the bivouac (13th at 03’34), followed by Michael Metge (19th at 05’40) and Alessandro Botturi (25th at 06’35), who were forced to slow their pace due to visibility issues. Michael Metge Quad rider Ignacio Casale had a different strategy as he took on the first stage. After securing his first Dakar crown one year ago, the Chilean gave his all to show that he still has what it takes. He was the first quad to start the first stage and rode his Yamaha Raptor 700 to a solid one-minute lead. Last year's runner-up, Rafał Sonik, c…

Well guys - firstly, I wanted to say sorry for not making it to Squires this year. Looking through the photos & videos it did look like a cracking time. Oh well, there's always next year. Basically, things have been a little manic at work with me, and this weekend rather snuck up. Any way, looking through my work calendar I'd realised I'd booked Monday and Tuesday off work, great! There were two things I'd told myself last year - firstly that I would do another Iron Butt ride (what's wrong with me?!) and secondly that I would go and explore Scotland. The decent weather is rapidly running out on us and I've not been out on the bike as much as I'd hoped, so a…

  13. Hi, Does anybody know of a good place to get additional headlight(s) for my xj600s. The beam isn't great on dipped, so was thinking of maybe an additional light, perhaps just need an upgraded bulb. Just a quick look in Halfords for example and i find Ring do these for cars, but they tend to be called driving lights which am i wrong in thinking are main beam not dipped? Cheers

Had the fazer for a year now, my only grouch is that I am finding the clutch lever heavy going in town traffic, and suspect the same would be the case on a trackday. I gone through the lever/cable connections/adjustments etc, well lubricated, and cant get it any lighter. I consider that I have 3 options. 1) Convert to hydraulic (looks to be around £250 min spend) 2) Lighter clutch springs (may lead to clutch slippage/variation in pick up point) 3) Some thing like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-FZ6-FAZER-2004-2010-LONG-BLACK-BRAKE-CLUTCH-LEVERS-SET-TRACK-RACE-R12B2-/231408112680?hash=item35e0ff9428:g:~RUAAOSwDk5T91-i Has anyone f…

  16. Started by TheSaffer,

So after the incident where a driver reversed into me last year, I finally had my bike repaired. New fairing bracket and headlamp units etc. Now the guy at the workshop ended up tightening up every screw on the head unit when he assembled it for me. I only noticed something was wrong when I rode back home at night and I was lighting up every road sign on the A12 like a Boeing 747 coming in for a landing. I know where and how to adjust the headlight units, but I would like to know if anyone knows the specification of the actual beam projected? I know that if your headlamps are under 85cm you only need to drop the beam edge by 2-5cm at about 12 foot away. What…

It is widely accepted that the UK Motorcycle Police are the best trained riders in the world (not least by the UK Police!), this has forged a link between what these guys do and the normal civilian riders in the form of the IAM and ROPSPA. So in the UK we have Civilian Advanced Riders who have trained and passed examinations that lead to the coverted 'Advanced Rider' status. Personally I feel that this is normal riding not advanced, and those that do not ride to this standard are 'learning' (you can still ride to the standard without taking the test). So, here in the UK there are bodies who will teach you and help you to improve your riding (or driving) to the benifit …

Recently having a baby and being a born again rider I thought I had better brush up on my road craft. Unlike the UK there is no advanced rider organisations like the IAM or BMF, or with the local police force like the BikeSafe workshops. So last Saturday I took the first stage of the Advanced course with Honda Australia Rider Training (HART) in St Ives, NSW. Assuming I'd be the only Yamaha rider, out of the six students on the course there was a wide range of bikes, MT09, MT09 Tracer, CBR600RR, BMW R1200 Adventure, Classic Harley and a Kymco 550 Maxi-Scooter. The HART training facility was purpose-built for police driver training in the early 1960s. Due to this …
