Just got this on Kindle and its a cracking read. Gives you an insight as the the machinations of the race industry, the old adage is still true, its not what you know but who you know! still Martin has the grit and determination to succeed and still have fun. that's why he still works on the lorries then he can answer to no-one at the end of the day.

Hi there, Happy new year to you all! I've come with cap in hand to ask your advice please. If there is anybody who knows about dragstars and engine block paint peeling/bubbling. My bike is fairly old (but still in sound condition), however, the engine block is beginning to bubble in places, not massively but enough to try and stop it before it gets out of hand. About the size of a penny in two place. The fins are also beginning to lose their paint on the edges. The paint is a grey colour but I don't know exactly the colour code for the paint block. I would like to paint it in those spots with VHT paint if possible. Any ideas what colour I could use for the eng…

Afternoon all Just in case anyone ever needs to know, it appears a Dragstar will go 204 miles (including reserve) before she splutters out. Which cheered me up. Especially as I was 50 yards from a petrol station. Cheers Dom

Hi guys I'm new here and hoping to get some help. I bought a set of Dr. Bike heated grips to install on my 2009 XJ6N. I'm fairly comfortable with fitting the grips but I'm struggling with the wiring. I don't want to connect the wires straight to the battery. Someone suggested I connect the positive to the tail light live wire using a simple snap-lock connector (like this from maplins for example http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-snap-lock-connecter-blue-l30ay)and then the neutral straight to the battery. I'm very much an amateur but I think I should be able to do this fairly easily ... assuming I find the tail light wire! Do people think this is a good id…

  6. Dropped my bike off for its MOT today and lad had a quick scout round it before i left and said rear tyre was getting abit low, Fair enough as ive never been very impressed with the cheng shin thats on it now, altho dont know if its just because its the width of a push bike tyre, They had a michelin in stock for it so told them to fit that while they have it, But then i remember reading something about best changing them in pairs, lad said don't bother might aswell run front off them change them both next time as it doesn't make a much differance on smaller bikes,

Well I resisted as long as possible but I relapsed, 57miles was all she got as a run in. Then stayed under 7500 for the next couple of hundred. Job done now, today was the first full fat 'Oh that's why you ride a two stoke' moment. Many more to come, I hope. Second thing, thought the bike looked a little flat, even after I had given it a clean. So at the suggestion of my neighbour (has some show and shine trophies from car meets) took all the polish off with some blue stuff from the US he lent me. Then gave it a good seeing to with some pigmented wax, again from Lee next door. WOW Looks amazing, much deeper colour and shine. Apparently polish/wax can go a bit off if it bu…

Hey folks, thought id have a little rant and give you a giggle. I have been helping a mate of mine fix his road legal Pit bike 140cc (stomp??) and yesterday i had to remove two fucked screws out of his stator plate so he could upgrade it. Anyway before that he asked if i had a flywheel puller and sadly id don't, followed swiftly by the "how do i remove a flywheel then" question..............."with a puller" i reply. Then the screw extraction procedure happened, how he got the flywheel off i did not ask. i do the biz and remove the two fucked screws and fit the new stator and leave for home to my chicken stew and dumplings.....nom nom nom Hour later he tips up at mine …

  10. Hey y'all I bought an old 79 Yamaha IT 250. It was in running condition (albeit poor) out the back of the tail pipe oil would drip out and the acceleration was gutless. The previous owner suggested maybe it was from an incorrect oil/fuel ratio. No big deal. I got it home and started to go to work on the carb, thinking that it was just an overly rich fuel mixture I looked at the needle jet position... it was adjusted to the next lean setting. So I moved the adjustment to the leanest position and fired it up. the problem persisted, oil coming out of the tailpipe and no balls. When I tried to tune the carb's throttle adjustment, the engine run away from me. I knew th…

So thought I would pop out for a nice ride this afternoon. Nice to get out on Christmas day when the roads are fairly empty and thought the weather is not gonna be great for next 2 months. Not entirely sure what happened beyond I lost traction whilst accelerating. This the result ; Past me - 'Do I want to pay £100 + for engine protectors? Nah' So looks like I wont be riding for a while. Think my pride is hurt worse than I am though so I guess that is good.

So I've finally passed my test and looking to step up to my first 'big bike'. I reckon the FZ6 is a great place to start out; smooth & tourquey 4 cylinder (the configuration that I trained on) plus a 'sports-touring' design and upright riding position; good for the long-distance trips I plan to cover on some occasions (and favourable insurance prices to boot), plus enough power so I won't get bored after learning the ropes So anyway I've found a great offer at a dealer whose offering an S2 model; low mileage, great condition & for a decent price. Here my dilemma begins: the bike was originally imported from Spain as a parallel import [equivalent model avai…
