as one or two of you may be aware, i`m trying to reserect a bag of bolts into an XS400. i am at the stage now where i may have to buy from abroad for a few parts and i am concerned. this could be my first time buying from abroad. we all know of someone who has been conned or fiddled by scammers abroad... what i would like to know is what i need to look out for when buying from overseas. what have you lot come across?? who should i avoid? do you lot know of any companies that give a very bad service to thier overseas buyers??? are there any really good companies that you lot can recommend??? in particular exhaust companies..... it`s a sad state of …

Went to collect the rebuilt XR lower-end from my mate's on Friday night.....was enjoying a beer & a good chat session with him in his shop.... & then he brought up the fact that a mutual friend (who recently moved due to being damn near homeless & jobless for awhile & then finally scoring a decent job looking after a Water treatment facility up in the Columbia River gorge (Beautiful place!)... was having a Helluva time coming up with enough cash to get himself a bike again after being bikeless for over 6years.... This friend is alot like me in the fact that him being around bikes all his life & going crazy not being back on 2-Wheels soon.... W…

Hi there. I currently ride a yamaha fazer 600 and I lost my job recently due to cut backs in the way the public sector is being funded so I'm moving to London to get a job where positions like mine are better funded- However I don't want to get political. I just want to know what riding in London is like full time. I'm gonna be living in Wood Green on a temp basis for a bit. I heard that bike theft is a pretty big problem in London. At the moment I have no way of keeping my bike indoors, but when I move again I might be able to keep it indoors. Anyone got any tips for riding in London? Should I invest in any other security devices? Or should I maybe keep m…

Hey I'm new here just wanted to introduce myself, I'm from Detroit, MI and just recently purchased my first bike from a friend last fall as a winter project. It's a 1975 Yamaha xs500 DOHC and I bought it in non-running condition, i replaced the coils on it, the plugs, completely rebuilt the carbs, new (used but in good condition) intake manifolds, and got the bike running. Now heres my problem... The bike will start, and idle fine once its warmed up like any other bike, sounds great, has a healthy rev when in neutral but where i start to wonder what could be wrong, when i ride the bike it runs fine up until about 4k-4500k rpm's then the right cylinder cuts ou…

I just took my '05 V-Star 650 with 2K original miles out of winter storage (garaged). I left the bowls filled all winter (4 months) with the fuel shut off with stabulized gasoline. It started fine, but there is gasoline coming from the carburetor vent tube that ends behind the air cleaner. I had dripping gasoline and a puddle after it ran only a few minutes. What causes this? Is a repair yourself condition, or does it have to go back to the dealer. The dealer choice could be a pain because it will have to be trailered because it can't be ridden the way it is. The service manual does not give any troubleshooting for carb problems. It only has the instructions for performin…

Hi Everyone, thought it was about time I registered ,I ve been visiting the site for a long time ,found it quite useful so now Ive registered. My bike is a 'j' reg virago 535 in pearl cream and chrome and is in pretty good condition. It was christened 'The Ladyboy' by my then workforce as it arrived with leather tassles everywhere which made it look a bit gay.Ive no real problem with that but the name stuck although the tassles didnt ,they vanished one lunchtime...probably for the best really. Just passed its MoT needing a bit of work on the exhaust (plating bottom box) easy and new front pads easier and is runing like a dream. By the by my son who passed is test a cou…
