Although after I've washed it I've left it running for 5 minutes to dry off the engine and I've now got a engine management light Come up? I'm a car mechanic but have never delt with motorbikes, how do I reset it ?! I've only done 400miles! Thanks in advance guys!

Hi. My bike is a 96 model with 21k on the clock, as i gradually increase the revs at a standstill it seems rough untill about 5000 then rapidly leaps up to max like its just hit its power band. When riding it also feels rough in that rev range but when twisting the throttle it pulls like a train and feels great. I have replaced all spark plugs, an ignition coil(suspected problem), stripped the carbs cleaning all jets and adjusting pilot screws and visually checking all the butterflys are in the same position(no vacumn guages) and float bowls also in the same position (sounded so confusing checking them didnt bother) Bike does have a scorpion can on so im wondering …

I intend to paint my engine soon after I've done all the necessary prep, but just wondering if anybody who's done the same has any recommendations for paints? Obviously gonna need some high temperature primer which was easy to find, but for the engine paint there seems to be so many different types.

  11. Engine seized up as result of exhaust side of piston's skirt breaking apart and falling into lower end of engine. Yes there was engine oil and also coolant, both before and after the "seizure"... or that would have been a big lecture to the boy! I read on another blog this is usually the result of running to lean, thus too hot and pop??? In hindsight, the bike was accumulating some oil/sand at the exhaust port/muffler connection on the cylinder. It was initiated by an over full oil condition, which was corrected, weeks before. But, maybe that popped the seal. The bike started, ran well, plenty of power, it was odd. Another blogger suggested it is caused by too muc…

  12. I did a search through the forum, nobody seems to have asked this question before, or if they did, they put it in title with a cryptic heading like "help" or "question" or "need help" that sort of thing, I must confess these simple titles get my goat up!!! why can't they be more concise? Anyway back to the question in hand......... I'm just in the process of doing an engine rebulid on my Honda CB400/4 , I did the DTMX 175 last year!! The base gasket has leaked oil for some years, in fact shortly after i rebuilt the engine a few years ago it started...but recently its got worse and enoughs enough! i decided its time to fix it, so engine out and replace the seals and…

After spending all of last night rebuilding it, and all of this morning bolting everything else back on I filled it with some cheap 10w40 and fired it up. Now it's making a taping noise, think of the sound a valve makes when it's out of adjustment. It's like that sound, coming from the cylinder/bottom end, and it makes it only on the power stroke. I don't have the slightest idea, anyone else have a clue?

Greetings Forum, I would like to know if there is a procedure available to remove an existing engine and replace it with a salvaged engine for a 1983 Seca 750. I have owned this bike for close to twenty years and would like to take this project on in the garage for the winter. Any suggestions or links would be appreciated. Regards, Phil

  15. On my DT 125 MX (1981), whenever I go WOT and a reach higher revs in each gear the engine starts stuttering rapidly and won't rev/accelerate any higher. This is annoying because it happens just as I get into the powerband. If I change the spark plug, the bike runs pretty sweet and can rev much higher but then after a few rides it goes back to the stuttering problem. Any suggestions to fix this? Cheers

  17. Started by i like my SR,

hi, unfortunaitly, i have purchased a kwak. ive just run it home (helston, cornwall) from Llandrindod wells in wales (300 miles) on the run, i heard no abnormal noises. when i got home, it was run arround (priety aggressivly i might say ) and once again i heard no problems. when i got home, no abnormal noises. ive left it to cool down for 1 hour, and ive just started it up (because i love the fact that ive now got a 500, instead of 125, and i love the noise) and to my horror, i hear a mild to loud tapping noise from the cylender head at arround 1500 rpm above and below that rpm, the noise goes, but im very tentative to take her out again, seen as my SR's …

  18. Started by i like my SR,

Hi, im a relative newb, ive been riding for over a year now, and have recently got an SR125 SE. Ive had to change the engine for a newer one, as it decided to drop one of its valves in to the barel. The Newer engine is off of a 97 bike, and it is so far running well (ish). There is one problem though, when I come off the throtle in any gear above 3rd, the power will go compleatly, and the engine dies (as in no fuel being combusted), or when I give her a little throtle, she will sometimes become very laboured in reving, and will almost stall, or die (in neutral). It only seems to hapen when the engine is warm/hot. I think it could be the carb, or an air leak in to…

I have seen a few of these before but never all together at the same time Comprehending Engineers - Take One Two engineering students were walking across campus when one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?" The second engineer replied "Well, I was walking along yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, "Take what you want." The second engineer nodded approvingly, "Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fit." Comprehending Engineers - Take Two To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the enginee…
