Why cant the local dealer get one? are they discontinued or can't they be bothered. Manchester extreme will get you one if they are not discontinued, you will have to discuss with Owen if he could have it sent to you after you get a price. it wont be cheap I dont suppose. Didnt know you would consider a new one but hey...needs must eh?
  2. Tell me LR...in that last pic are you having a wee?

sounds normal to me jebb, mine is like that...they just about toot the horn when fully charged. You could prove it is or is not a leakage by putting a multimeter in series to the battery. Switched to DC Amps or should I say, disconnect the fuse, touch the battery side with the + probe and the other side with the - probe and see if theres a significant current reading.

Check there is a low resistance through the ignition coil primary to ground. Check the points are opening just before TDC
  10. Removed the carb bank and the bowls off the two offending cylinders, although the bowls were spotlessly clean the two pilots from these carbs were gunked with something. Now all is well and MOT is next job
  11. Greetings Joe she's a real beauty I am gobsmacked how cheaply you guys seem to pick up these old classics $200 for a runner in fair condition

without wishing to get into any discussions about idiots, jetting bigger certainly wont do any harm so if you want to feel at ease with your new pipes...go for it.

Does it feel lumpy Steve? Its a 4 cylinder yes? Touch all the exhaust headers with a wet rag...do you get a hiss on all of them or is a cylinder not running correct? ...Paul
  14. Sounds like muck or water in the carb to me too, have you just filled the tank by any chance?
  15. Airhead replied to DavidSS's post in a topic in Projects
Good one David, to clean a carb properly the very least you should have is an aerosol carb cleaner. Better still a compressed air line and an ultrasonic cleaning bath. Pay particular attention to the pilot jet and the choke circuit, really it should have started up fine on the choke and ran on that alone! Empty the bowl and drizzle gas into the choke tube and see if the fuel runs out of the little hole into the bowl. Also check the gasket is intact around the choke tube, if its broken the choke wont work. Hoping for good news soon.
  16. no its the float valve that does this, crap in the float valve or even wear can be the culprit even if the float height is correct
  17. Airhead replied to DavidSS's post in a topic in Projects
you have told us the fuelling is good, the spark is good so now its a compression issue, thats it...end of the line unless of course fuelling and or spark isnt good Oh and check the filter..is it disintegrating? could some of it be jamming the reed valve?
  18. Airhead replied to DavidSS's post in a topic in Projects
Dont despair David, you'll get there in the end, you need to check the compression, maybe the piston rings are 'frozen' or the crank seals passing
  19. Airhead replied to DavidSS's post in a topic in Projects
Can you get hold of a compression test gauge, you need to see around 100 psi
