I dont think that the needle being in the top groove is wise, this will be making it lean at less than WOT. You may be actually delivering LESS fuel at part throttle than when it was a standard bike. If anything I would have expected you to be using either the standard clip position or one of the clip positions below, thereby richening the mixture. (Which is why you fitted a bigger main jet)

Do you run with WOT all the time?
  3. Not correct in your assumption , Vacuum operated fuel taps were developed lmuch later than 1967, the giveaway however is a vacuum line from fuel tap to manifold, if it hasnt got one then its fuel all the time and you have to switch to OFF when not running.

Sorry to hear of the fatal accident...RIP Spray a rag wet with WD40 to clean top bottom and side plates of chain, I use aerosol chain lube myself. WD40 isnt so dear if you buy a gallon of it look for offers at 'Busters' etc Rag and WD40 also good for wiping brake dust, crud and chain lube fling from rear wheel.

If weve moved on to 1970's moped exotica...what about this then...
  7. You can buy one for you AND one for the GF for that price at Aldi...ok I'm not gonna keep on about it...I posted the wrong price, they are only £20 Here
  8. Get youself one of those one piece oversuits from Aldi, good quality at a knockdown price...Around £30, you may be able to still get some if you give Aldi a ring they will tell you if there are any left in stores in your area, I know from experience they are pretty helpful.that will keep all your clothes dry as you wear it over your boots and the cuffs of your gloves...

Hi, Try adjusting the idle aduster screw, Its the knurled one with a spring around the thread, clockwise around 1/2 turn at a time, as you screw it in turn the throttle a little then throttle off to see if any effect. ...Paul
  10. Oil tank on the left and round section swing arm, thats an early one. It should have a carb as follows Mikuni VM24, Number 2H500 Standard Set up with factory porting, standard exhaust and air filter Throttle Slide, 2.0 Needle, 4j13 Clip position 3. Needle Jet, 249 0-2 Main Jet, 130 Pilot Jet, 25 Reed side diameter, 35mm Filter side diameter, 43mm Length, 85mm Float Height, 21mm Sounds to me like its running rich, it gets worse with choke so isnt lean, if fuel is running from the overflow then the level is too high, this will cause a rich mixture and may lead to (four stroking)...firing every other rev instead of every rev. you need to re check the float height, as I posted earlier, did you check from beneath the gasket and with tang only touching the needle valve without compressing the spring? Perhaps the float needle valve is worn and is passing fuel, examine with a magnifying glass for wear around the pointed end. Rather than test on a paddock stand you would be better riding it to test as its under load then. besides its safer and wont have your chain whipping about so much.

I may have missed something here but didnt the original OEM set have an expander ring in the bottom groove? Why not re-use it under the thinner ring? or if you havnt got it put the thinner ring in the bottom groove anyhow.
  12. Thats a good one, I dunno yet havent started her up let alone been out, The wifey is in bed been on nights, also havent ridden this thing for almost a year now so ive forgot how it was anyhow...And Ive thoroughly cleaned and re built my carb so that might also make some difference...
  13. Haha prepare for som more boredom! Well i got the soapy spray and found a leak at the end of the exhaust, I hadnt made a good enough job here So having cured that one I soon found another at the intake manifold, these things have an in-built O ring that has become a bit flattened after its 30 ish years of life, so having priced one up at £48 (Thats not dear...said the man at Granby's) I decided to buy some silicone gasket goo from my local car spares shop...£5.00 . A ring of the stuff around the manifold and hey presto, my engine is air tight, held 10 psi forever. Peace of mind if nothing else, i had the engine completely in bits not too long ago so it had new crankshaft seals which are obviously good but now I know that the crancase halves are sealed well too, ..

Great ped that was, along with its stablemate Rekord, Also Gilera one was very smart and Fantic's too, in fact some of them would be still top notch today...but these were the true competition to the japs in the sports moped bracket. I never had a ped on the road, waited a year longer and got a Honda SS125, happy to play off the road at 16, probably due to no parental encouragement (money),

Looks like your bike has been somewhat neglected in its short life, I would go for the re-painting, rather than the greasing option, A waterproof cover would be of benefit it certainly wont make things worse, there will be air circulation in the cover and the water will be kept outside of it....

That just so misses the point! When Mobys, Batavus, Puch and co were turning out peds, Yamaha, suzuki, Honda and co were also turing out peds. Of course you see kids having fun on yamahas its because the others have fkcn gone, (with certain exeptions)

The thing is...If that book case was really necessary, then we should have bought one for all the MP's because its not really fair to leave the others out. Come to think of it we should also pay for moats to be dug round their posh residences and chandaliers in their hallways, we should also continue to pay their mortgages after they are paid up and when they get home from a tiring day sleeping in the commons bar they can flop down in the old massage chair and watch the gardening team spread that great big pile of paid for horse sh1t around the lovely borders............NOT!!!!!!

I agree, miss seeing the old European peds around, they were simple yet functional and not all about the look or the speed. And as it happens, no i havent seen any MBK's with kids having a great time on them!!!

If you get one from siriusconinc and its a DT175E one, there will be some difference, ie the main jet will be 140, the american bikes had a different carb for some reason, I cant remember which one I bought now, ask if they have DT175MX...It will have a 130 Jet., do you know the carb specs?
  22. Airhead replied to DirtyDT's post in a topic in Yamaha Workshop
Try siriusconinc thats where I got mine from.

I doubt the soldering iron will be 'man enough' there is too much mass of metal to heat and the solder wont melt....possibly. Use a blowtorch or a hot air gun for much faster results. Are they allen head screws (not read the thread properly) if so normal allen keys will flex and you may have to extend the handle for more leverage, I prefer the 3/8 square drive type that are used with a ratchet from a socket set.
