  1. Not a clue about that micro-weld theory, but as for the low rev charging... Yes, that's possible. I know that some vehicles don't charge much when it's sat idling. The issue with urban riding is when people are used to cars. In a car, you get to the highest gear you can (before it strains) as quickly as you can to save fuel. But with a bike, it's more about staying in the lowest gear (without revving the nuts off it) that you can to sustain manoeuvrability... I work on this theory... If the speed limit is 30mph, I don't go past 3rd, 40: 4th, 50: 5th & so on... Like this, you still have the response to accelerate quickly to avoid dangers. It does keep your revs a little higher and probably burns a little more fuel, but let's face it, it's not like continuously doing 40 in 2nd in your car..! lol
  2. Or even IN-experienced views can sometimes help! lol
  3. First off, what bike (it might help people)? It might be useful to pull the starter motor out of its hole and (carefully) test it. You might feel or see what's going on. It could be a bit sticky or something, or feel rough...
  4. Well, congratulations on the fix! And thanks for coming back to give us the update!!! lol If you still have the bike, it might be a good idea to make sure the fuel filter is ok and check the inside of the tank. Who knows what those crystals were, but aluminium does some strange things...
  5. Actually... What's the part number on the broken item?
  6. Ok, so... Contact Padgetts and explain it all to them (tell them Paul Laverick put you onto them (who knows if that will help... lol)). In the meantime, I think it's time to start rummaging for 2nd hand parts! P.S. I'm assuming you don't want to go through insurance? P.P.S. Make sure your insurance company doesn't require you to have the steering lock on (some of them do!) before just not using it again...
  7. Note also that it's possible to swap your key barrel over, so you don't end up with two keys!
  8. Bottom line is, the casing is a cast aluminium part, the locking bar isn't exactly tool steel either. And the bar engages with your aluminium head! When they tried stealing my Thunderace, they actually managed to rip my top yoke before the steering lock bent!!! lol
  9. Yes, YES!!! Lower that tone!!!
  10. ...! "Not helpful"??? How can they not be helpful? As in... You said "Hi, my steering lock is knackered because some scrote tried to nick my bike!" And they said "What do you want us to do about it???" What is wrong with these people? Ask them if they know anything about bikes, or know someone that does! lol Give them your registration and tell them you want a new steering lock, and how much will it cost?! If they still can't find their backsides with both hands and someone holding a flashlight, contact Padgetts Motorcycles in Dewsbury. They're not cheap, but they know what they're talking about! If you're willing to pay the money, they'll have the part you need sat on your doorstep within the week, I'm sure! I'm assuming you're planning on doing the work yourself?
  11. Welcome in... Make an introduction post! Your best bet is to go to your local Yamaha dealer and ask them. In the meantime, you should make sure that the bent lock isn't interfering with your steering. You don't want that to stick half way through a corner!
  12. Yey!
  13. I know it's not cheap, but you could always buy a new regulator... https://yambits.co.uk/yzf1000r-thunderace-regulator-p-58776.html Yeah, problem is at the moment, I can't find anywhere that will re-core a curved radiator! lol Or there's always the custom radiator option
  14. I actually managed to find a guy that fixes Satnavs and he had a 550 that was bricked during an update. He'd failed to unbrick it and sold me the whole back for £30! Now I just need to work up the guts to open a perfectly working Satnav... lol
  15. Yeah, mines 28 years old... I need a new radiator..!
  16. If anyone has a Rider550 that doesn't work anymore, I'm interested in it for parts. My power buttons' waterproof cover has deteriorated. And Tomtom is being a pillock about it...
  17. That's an abuse of a paintbrush!!! lol
  18. Yup, I heard about that... BTW, your video doesn't work...
  19. Strange, technically, they could have still towed you out... But I'd have loved wheeling my bike through the office! lol
  20. Errrm... TWO motorbikes actually. But we sold the brand new XSR125, our lass decided she was happier on the back than in control!
  21. Are Facebook Raffle Sites a scam? Well, there's quite a few of them around these days, and I don't doubt some of them are scams, but not all! The one I want to talk about is https://www.revcomps.com/. I know this isn't a scam because I've won on it (quite a few times actually!), including a first Gen Hayabusa! For those of you in the UK, check them out. And if you throw any tickets on, maybe you'd tag my reference code "https://revcomps.com/?ref=33003" It works for me whether it's your first ticket or 100th. Using it gets both of us in special raffles where we could both win something.~ Anyway, check them out guys, and post if you have any questions! Gamble Safely..!
  22. Well, that sucks! I've gotta say, I love the Michelin Road 6's, I have them on all my bikes.
  23. It can't be any worse than last year! lol
  24. I'm concerned that I understood that...
