The Star I'm picking up this week doesn't come with a screen, so I'll be interested to see what it's like to ride. My last naked was a CX500 and that didn't go fast enough for the wind to worry me, lol!
  2. Yesterday I was at the British Pipe Smoking Championships! A great day was had by all. I took part in the main event and came a respectable mid-table with a time of 42mins and won myself a new pipe. Here's a few pics! Me enjoying a smoke on my new Mini Calabash. Friend from the Nottingham Pipe Club. Another Friend from the Nottingham Pipe Club. A gentleman sporting the battledress of the Birmingham Pipe Club. My haul for the day! L>R: Nice Martin that I won for placing mid-rankings. The Mini Calabash that I bought for myself. A Peterson Aran that all competitors were given. All in all, a really good day!
  3. lol! Lovely looking Bonnie. I have to admit, I do have a softspot for Trumps. Was looking at a Speedmaster before I got the Midnight Star.
  4. Cheers Remelad! I shall certainly post some pics up when I go get it!
  5. Heya bud, welcome to the forum. Good luck with restoring your bike! Whereabouts in NC are you from? My Powerlifting coach is from Durham. Edit: I didn't read the title properly - you're from Charlotte lol. Doh!
  6. I've had similar happen to me. Brown trousers time, for sure. Good work keeping your cool!
  7. Generally what tends to happen is they put washers in the carbs to restrict the intake. Should be a simple matter to take them out! V-twins are quite common to be restricted, as by their nature (low revving with quite a lot of torque) they take a restriction quite well. Put restrictors on a high-revving sportsbike and it's virtually unrideable lol.
  8. The Pyrenees are lovely, especially Andorra. Going down the West coast of France, you'll have to check out Bordeaux - lovely town, that.
  9. "Should I get a set of white-wall tyres? Are you gonna cruise the miracle mile?" Lovely looking bike, that. Can imagine sitting on a wall at the seaside with a tray of chips, watching it glinting in the sun.
  10. Cheers bud! The screen's actually pretty good at deflecting the wind. Depends on how low you hunc as to whether it goes over your head. Can cruise at, ahem, '70, officer' for ages on the motorway without too much strain. Sad to get rid of it, but my main sport is powerlifting and it doesn't combine well with the hunched over position of a sportsbike.
  11. Cheers Clarke! Can't wait. Just the noise and the looks of it. I don't need it to be fast - though I'm sure the torque'll pull my arms out their sockets, haha. The Thundercat, though massively fast, doesn't provide you with any 'feeling' of acceleration. I think it's because of how you're hunched over the tank, you don't feel the G-forces so much.
  12. Pic of my Thundercat before I chop her in for the XVS1300 next week.

Just saw this thread. That bike is jaw dropping, mate. Looks mean as hell.
  14. Welcome bud! Nought wrong with a small bike - I used to have a Honda H100 and love it to bits! 100mpg and you can filter through traffic with contemptuous ease!
  15. Hey John, welcome to the forum mate.
  16. Welcome! That's a beast of a bike, especially in Matte black. Wouldn't like to try riding that across shifting sands, lol. I'd be on my side in a flash.
  17. Hey Dirk, welcome!
  18. Had to nip to Kwik Fit, get one of the tyres on my wife's Punto repaired today. Also, got my Alfa up for sale as the sports bucket seats are just too uncomfortable for my back (same reason I've traded Thundercat in for the Midnight Star).
  19. Supras ARE pretty nippy, aye, lol! My cousin has an R34 Skyline GTS and that thing can move pretty well, too. Though I've got him into bikes now He had my old GPX750R off me and has now recently replaced it with an SV1000...
  20. Brilliant essay you've written there Ttaskmaster! Lots of useful stuff in that. Thanks for taking the time. Gonna be pretty nervous the first time I jump on to ride it home, I reckon. But it's all part of the adventure!
  21. Thanks Clarke!!

I bet! Tis one of the reasons I've decided to chop in the Thundercat for an XVS...

Really nice trip there, mate. I do love Cornwall. Planning to move there in the next few years myself. You live up Glossop way? I went through there on my way to Snake Pass only a few weeks back on my Thundercat
  24. Hey guys - check out my intro in the intros section. Picking up my new bike, an XVS 1300 Midnight Star, in a week's time. It's my first cruiser; previously I've only had standards (H100S, CX500) and sportsbikes (GPX750R and Thundercat). So my question is - how different will it be, riding a cruiser, particularly a relatively big one? Are there any hints and tips that I should know and bear in mind in order to make life easier for myself? Thanks guys!

I don't wear earplugs normally, but I think I may start after reading some of the replies in this thread. I've got a Shark Raw too and I agree, it is noiser than the average helmet. Looks damn cool though...
