  1. When I started reading this I was in the dark. Now the suns come up to brighten my day along with this post
  2. I know this is a day late and a dollar short but did you try left hand thread to remove the knob?
  3. Realy it s just a technacality the bike is regested to him the vin is just a method of id'ing the bike and in your country taxing it .I missed the part about he has the police report already so thats all he should need to explain it to anybody. The stars are of little importance and you can get them in certian punch kits. Dealers never wan't to get involved in stolen anything as it could bite them ,and they won't do any better job stamping the # anyway. And if they give him a hard time about it later he can then try to find a frame, they cant take his bike away from him. Also if he were to put acid on the old part of the frame the # will show up and stamp the new right beside it
  4. Get a copy of the police report in it it will show that they returned your bike to you that should be enough for the dealer to do the work. And the report is free as it's public information. You could also foward a copy of the report to the dvla and they can add it to the file Or to stamp the vin yourself so it looks pro get the stamp set and clamp them in jig made of 2 blocks of wood cut to fit the length of the # of stamps so they stay nice and straight and can't move around at all, clamp the frame down so it won't jump around ,put a piece of steel over the stamps and hit it realy hard once in the middle with a 2 lb hammer. 1 person to hold the stamps and 1 to smack the piss out of it Prep the frame so all the grinding marks are removed first and it will look just like new. and keep the police report so when you go to get it mto'ed you can explain it with evidence if it dosen't turn out 100% __________________________________________________ I_wood___I fit stamps in here I__wood_I I________I__________________I_______I
  5. you can up laod a picture of youself in your profile but to use gallery you have to be a paying member
  6. Your in luck I did this swap back in 1988 to my86 fz 600 the cdi untis are interchangable the fz has the better curve and I used it so I know it works. but then I changed the pickups back to the old. Use your old pickup's and rotor not positive in this but i think they mount in a slightly different position for the curve, again that's what I did. If your old motor worked then using the old pickup cdi and coils as a set, absoutly no reason why it won't again as these parts are what control spark and timming The fj motor has a taller 6th gear ratio so it will run at lower rpms in 6th now=better gas milage---- less pull to pass though
  7. You should do the clutch before you burn up the steel plates it will save you lots of$$$ it's a 1/2 hr job. To get the trip knob off look inside the end you will see a small philips scerw. the whole speedo comes apart from the back side to be able to change the bulb. For the badges start hunting the bike wreckers
  8. Do youhave spark? check it by holding the plug to the hear while cranking the eng over. To disable the kill switch just follow the wires and un plug. no spark 1st try a new plug and cap 2nd buy a manual your going to need it to do the rest of the tests to determin why you have no spark. your going to be checking the ignition coil and pick up coil and you will need a multi meter to do these tests.
  9. Only thing I can think of is the cluch basket may be comming loose from the gear, ive seen it on bikes that have been drag raced alot the pins that hole the basket to the gear come loose.
  10. I am not telling you what to do thats your choice, but when I was racing a gsxr 750 135mph+ I always ballanced my rim's buy putting the axel in the rim and clamp it to a bench spin it 5 x and if the wheel stops in a different spot everytime good to go, and never had a problem. Doing it on the bike might pose a problem as the front wont stay straight and should be ballanced on a 90 deg. plane to avoid any gyro effect. Also the seal issue mentioned by air. Just a second note when in school we had a teck from Michlen come in and do a 2 hr class on tires and the one thing that I remember most was that every tire should be reballance after the first 1000 kms as the carcus shifts after being heated and cooled. And after doing it on my own vehicles I can tell you all that it's the truth .I have seen as much as 2 oz difference 180 deg from the original position.
  11. How many volts ru getting from the charging if you disconnect the lighting coil ? might be a weak charge coil. as well is the battery in good shape.

  14. Yes it's a whole kit with a 180 pipe to feed the water pack and the person flying pulls the jet ski. Looks like a lot of fun
  15. Gald you took the right steps to get comfortable and make it 3 yrs without killing yourself.By your first post I thought you just got it and I'm sure you can honestly say that if not careful with the throttle it could get you into trouble in a blink. Young or old we all can forget commen sence and go wild ,,,after getting off the dirt on my wr doing wheelies stoppies jumps and going as fast as I can everywhere,I have to remind myself that stuff stays on the dirt not on the street. I bet with all the torque that bike makes the front end would be quite easy to pull up in second or 3rd gear. 9000 is a dam good price if i remember thoes bikes were around 13500.00 ,,In Canada the dealers are aloted so many of each bikeand the only way they can get more is to buy it from another dealer then they pay way more and have to cover the extra shipping so in the end it's just not worth it ,most will get you a bike that way but you would get a better deal just buying it from another dealer. Then if needed get the warenty work done at you local dealer. Anyway again welcome to the YOC unfortunatly as thats a rare bike you probably won't get much help fixing it if you need any in the future the closest I ever got to 1 was at the bike show for a sit.The bike wasn't a good seller because it's confused with it's self it's not a sport bike and it's not a cruiser
  16. O PLEASE GOD TAKE CARE OF THIS PERSON ....if you live to truely know how to ride it see ya next year. Please take No offence you might have ridden bikes before and think you know right how to handel that thing but ????? me thinks your in over your head ( actualy not you..... anybody)for a first bike. Seriously be thinking everytime you twist the throttel, shit happens " snap just like that" and that thing will eat you and still be fixable when your dead. But wtf welcome to the YOC hang around and check it out. O Grouch thats just apart of what it's like to live in CANADA we ride what we want, how we want, when The dam snow goes away even then wtf lets ride CRAZY CANADIANS,

    New Bike

Cool with all the good stuff added already she shoud be a good and dependable ride. Old school with just enough new stuff inside so most would think it's as she was when new but better. Just them anil carbs to deal with never liked them myself, but if you have been around the block of frustration with setting them up ,which I,m sure you must have, it will be like a time machine everytime you throw a leg over.
  19. 20. Just drill the head of the bolt off, once you have the disc off there will be enough to grab and they usualy just turn out as the pressuer is off the threads.
  21. When you ask her whats wrong and she say's nothin ,run out and get flowers ,she just hasen't figured out how hard she going to squeeze your balls yet about what is buging her.
  22. Holy crap glad your alive don't wory about the bike they can be rebuilt, take a week or 20 to re think it all before authorizing anything
  23. As I suggest you might want to try dirrefent pad I guess I should answer this. They will come up to full op temp very quick, dry themself and the disc very fast if wet. and they last very well. before installing them champher the edges if not done allready. To set (bed) them in make lots of light stops for the first 50 or so miles ..so you don't glaze the contact surface ,,,then hammer them on (as safely as you feel comfortable with try a park lot where you can & not have to worry about traffic) and feel the difference. You will be able to lift the rear wheel quite easy, if your putting them on the front, and if on the back you will notice that a lighter brake is all that is needed to realy feel the stoping power. Sintered is just the heat process that the pads under go to make them. Google sintered for a full explaniation
