  1. what kidna speed were you doing in the first 1 min 20 seconds ? i used to ride like that till i got pulled over for "dangerously weaving in and out of lanes" apparently filtering is only meant to be done when traffic is moving between 0 and 10 mph. . . . sod that ! haha
  2. what like are the bikes maintence wise? i've heard a few people say these bikes are pretty much maintenence free, but others say there forever needing something done - what could i expect?
  3. theree was a feew cupple o' year old ones for around 4000-5000 price range, but when i can buy a brand new one for 2k more is it worth that? but i dont fancy buying a second hand one that someone else has made there own - i wand the basic bike, than i can change in any way "I" want
  4. i have an XJ600n, and it takes 2.4L from oil change, without a new filter, and i usually use 10w40, check the thread with the manuls and you'll find out more reliable info there Matt
  5. so yet again, my xj has decided that tis going to dump all its oil on the pavement underneath it. its getting beyond a joke, im having to top it up every week pretty much. I've taken the airbox out, cleaned it and put in a new filter, changed the oil filter, done several full oil changes and cleaned all the breather pipes and oil hoses and dinna kain what else to do. Bike sits in the bike shed at work, and the security guards having a go at me saying the bike might have to be kept off site if it keeps leaking. anyone got any more suggestions before i ram a bolt up the breather to block the Son of a btich. Cheers, Matthew
  6. well, thats what i like about the iron 883, cos unlike most of the other sportsters in the range, most of it, inc the engine, is mat black, rather than chrome ! that wouldnt bother me - nothing wrong with spending the weekend polishing, and as for the tinkering - i prefer a bike that i kain hwo to tinker with rather than one thats got more electrical components than mechanical. dilema i have is, do i buy it this year, or do i wait another year ? if i wait another year do i buy a car, or do i just keep my xj600n and keep saving my pennies ? xj600n is starting to get a bit worn out and tempremental . . .
  7. i kain its nae a yamaha, but im starting to think about my next bikee . . looking at the above, its 6700, brand new and if i pay 3k as a deposit i can pay the rest of in 2 years at 2.2% interest . . anyone had any experience or heard anything about them ?
  8. Scortcher here in aberdeen too ! where about in scotland are you ?
  9. when i done my cbt the choice was there to do it ether on a 50cc scoot, or on a 50cc geared bike ( i done mine when i was 16, so had to be a 50) when i phoned to book it they asked if i wanted a bike or scooter, and cos i chose bike they organised it on a day there bike was free. If i had done it on a scooter, then i would have been able to di it sooner - so they should have organised it so there was a scooter free. As for the disclaimer, i cant remember if i singed one or not saying that any accidents were my responsibilty. But surely cos it was them that insured the bike, if they were injured it would be that policy that you claim personal injury off? ( providing they were the only one involved in the accident) but i think it should have been the instructors fualt to fail noticing that they werent ready to go on the road. allthough i dont see how they could have done the offroad part of the training without chaning gears :S as for a refund or that, when i done my cbt i was told that if i did not pass it on the first day, i would get another half day of training for free, then next day - but i guess that would just be to the *descretion* (spelling :S) of the training provider matthew
  10. i would be interested in a t shirt aswell ! email me ?
  11. i use a motrax kaybul chain on my xj, has burn marks, saw marks, and the dust cap smashed off it, but its still keeping my bike safe i did have one of that alarmed disk locks, but it was a cheep crappy thing off ebay and way goign off every 2 seconds even when the wind was moving the bike
  12. bikes a bit sluggish anyway due to that daft 33bhp kit that keeps my licence and my insurance valid :/ its not overfilled, just allways seems to leak, then get low, once topped up runs fine for the first few weeks then starts to drip, then a bit more, and next thing you go back to your bike after an hour and theres a puddle underneath
  13. flicking through gumtree on my lunch break, nd i came across this . . http://www.gumtree.com/p/community/wanted-female-to-accompany-single-male-to-turkey-free-holiday/101317558 am i the only one that thinks thats kinda wierd?
  14. i wiz plannin on going, but cant manage now due to work see you have an XJ600n, have any problems with oil coming out the breether from the airbox? Matt
  15. cool ! thanks for the share haha
  16. Cheers for all the help guys, im gonna get some of the boards that work use on there pallets ( the ones with the holes in it ) and get some dowels to keep it all in place think my plan is to take the orig wiring diagram, and break it up into smaller chunks, like one diagram for the lights indications ect, one diagram for ignition and so on so on, if i do that in colour and print them out on that clear plastic stuff, i can make it all in sections, then put the diagrams ontop of each other to see where they all join. for binding, im planning using expandable braided cable as i allready have a reel of it from other projects that i have done, i also have a decent enough amount of multi-colourd heatshrink. i havn't came across any moulded connectors, just the latching type, and i have the tools to remove the spades from them, and PM sent and cheers for all the links everyone will update my thread in the projects section showing how im getting on, and will come back to this one if i get stuck
  17. just looking for a few tips. on my project bike im about to start the wiring, most of the harness is there ( in next to unuasable condition ) so im thinking of redoing the bad bits, if not it all and adding in whats not there. Has anyone ever done this for a whole bike before ? kinda tools should i be looking to get ? have a decent crimping tool, soldering iron and tools for removing cables out of the block connectors , aswell as the usual pliers, wire cutters, wire strippers etc been looking into it for a while and from what i've gathered its easy enough, as long as you use the right "ampage" cables, follow the wiring diagram like a hawk and take yer time . . any thoughts or comments ?
  18. yeah - mines the same, never been able to like anything haha
  19. i allways nod, or wave at other bikers, old mans had bikes since i was wee and i guess i just got the habbit from him - must say, i have noticed the difference of people waving or nodding back sicne i got rid of my L plates and my 125 in favor of a bigger bike
  20. Update, More Parts Have Arrived ! got my new handle bars, and my footpeg rubbers nae had much more of a progression with this bike recently due to getting my BSA B40 on the road for the rally's coming up, but i have made a start on the new wiring loom - anyone got any tips ?
  21. Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone keeps an ICE ( Incase of Emergency ) number stored in there phone, or a tag or something in there pocked with next of kin details ect. stopped for fuel today and got speaking to another biker, he was wearing a High Vis vest over his leathers with his name on the back of it, and the words " ICE Details Located on Right Pocket Zip" and he had like a security pass/id holder on his jacked pocket and a card with all his details and stuff on it. Seems like a good idea, and i do usually wear my high vis when riding at night and for long distances in "normal" scottish weather - rain, snow, fog, low cloud haha. Whats everyones thoughts ?
