Throttle needle vs airscrew adjusting - 2stroke
I know its a different model but my 350 A/C is around 5000 @ 60 I would think the gearing would be close, My rev counter was running slow as well but its getting better. The grease get hard over time if not used so I left the bike in sun which helped. You may have an RPM gadget in your garage they are built into strobes, multimeters etc these days. The needle setting on my A/C is only 1 groove different to standard so not overly rich about 12%, on your LC I wouldn't go leaner its not worth it, also its not just the mains that is effected by ethanol all the jet are running leaner, the racers recon ethanol reduces the octane about 10% which makes my bike 2% rich from standard.

Throttle needle vs airscrew adjusting - 2stroke
The quote in red do you mean you lowered the needle! ie set the circlip one slot higher? this would weaken the mix. The needle slots on Mikuni carbs are spaced, every space is an 1/8th more fuel or less fuel dependent on which way you go. A tip a lot of 2t racers are richening up there bikes due to the ethonol in fuel these days as they were nipping up. So due to this I run my 350B needle on the 4th slot from the top which is slightly richer than standard. I have the Mikuni manual somewhere!

FJ1100, any good? and what to watch out for?
The Pan13 is very comfortable better than the FJR however the FJR is more powerful, handles better, better mpg, etc and most important doesn't wobble

FJ1100, any good? and what to watch out for?
I'm not new to Fj's Task. I wouldn't buy one I'd make one since a mate & I used to work on them in the early 90's, most of them are poorly maintained but look clean. I agree price wise they have reached there level but for some reason Yamaha's don't hold there value like Honda's which is beyond me!! I have fond memories of Fj's but I'd only buy one now if it was really cheap now as I have moved on and owned an FJR since 2002.

LOL. Good luck with that.

FJ1100, any good? and what to watch out for?
If I was to buy an another FJ it would be an 1100 just because it was the first and was classed as a sports bike. I'm one of the 3CV luvvers I do like the 3XW as the rubber mounted frame was nice but they put cheaper forks and swingarm on it. So my perfect FJ would be an 3XW frame with the swinger & forks off an 3CV and the bodywork and engine of an 36Y. Nice.

Who can identify this XJ550?
Check out the frame number it will tell you what model XJ550 it is! Its got standard forks and wheels off a roadster but the frame different under the seat?

This Weekend
Hows the saying " If you didn't have bad luck you wouldn't have any" I had a couple of moments while going over Shap it must have had heavy rain the night before, seems like there was gravel on every bend trying to bring me off and almost did. Happily all I ended up with was a torn shoulder muscle.

This Weekend
A bit late BH. But I went to Kelso on the FJR agm and the weather was great if you were a fish. The wifey & I didn't even get slightly damp we have good bike gear and I changed the screen to the the largest I have which 4" wider & taller. We even did the Saturday ride out a minimum of 100 miles of A & B Roads and it was still lashing down the biggest problem was me overheating due to the screen and wet gear. Had really good time meeting up with me old FJR mates though. How did you get on?

That seams the best bet. There are plenty of tanks out there. I got a few parts myself recently at the right price its just a case of waiting. I cant post photos for some reason I have another go later. DONE. I got this! and a fair few bits for a RD250A. Forks, Yokes, Mudguards, Chassis, 2 Tanks, Loom (undamaged), Clock loom ( which is what I went for) Rear Light bracket (result these are getting hard to find) plus lots more. £85 and a drive to Yorkshire.

Is this correct?
HP is nice to have but, its not everything, back in the day when everything was Black & White, if you had 50hp you had a Superbike. I self-restrict by going out on my old RD 40bhp on a good day, the FJR1300 145bhp and if anything I ride faster and generally better on the RD. The extra power on the FJR makes me lazy as I know that apart from another bike nowt will get near me. The mirror thing you should check them before every maneuver just to see if some knob is trying to get past either side of you. I have never been rear ended but its been close a few times though.

Virago 750 with open pipes
Generally popping on the over run is air getting into the cans and igniting the unburnt fuel. I would sort out the fueling at low speed first as it sounds like its rich and as Noise said get a pair of baffles, apart from reducing the noise they will help reduce the air coming in..
-
Damn, got shunted in rear, help identifying pipes to replace.
I cant help with the parts but I'd change the name on the tank.

Are 2 strokes long distance runners?
I havnt an LC however my RD350B will cruise at 60mph very easly at the vibs were not a problem and I suffer from white finger. The reason for this speed was running in as said change the rpm every now and then to help your plugs. Its also was returning 45mpg which even I was surprised at!

I know its a bit late but BLOODY HELL what a mess! I'm out of the country at the mo being the reason. Question did the head come off fairly easy as I'm thinking of buying an early model myself.
