Hi Michael Welcome to the YOC, WEMOTO are supposed to be very good and reasonably priced so give them a try. As to your other question, first check that your cable is not kinked around anything where it travels from the lever to the actuator arm, just make sure it has a clean run without to many changes of direction, you could try lubing the cable before you fit it with a cable oiler, my own preference is to use bluetack made into a funnel at one end then hang the cable from a handy rafter or whatever and then fill the funnel with oil till it drips out of the other end, takes about 10 minutes for it to go through and have never had a cable break on me yet (you just know whats going to happen now!!) For my sins when I was but a lad I used my sailing trousers they were bright yellow and had braces and rubber cuff thingys on the bottom of each leg, they were'nt cool looking and people used to squint when I went by but by christ they were waterproof, all the seams were sealed and even when the boat tipped over I never got wet, so if you don't mind looking like total prat and you want something cheap give nautical/sailing kit a try. As for me when it rains I go in the car, yes I know boo hisss and other comments but I'm OLD.

Hi Welcome to the YOC, I have 2 of these the SECA and the MAXIM both 750 and I have been riding for almost 50 years and if this is your first bike and you have never riden before YOUR GOING TO DIE!! This is not a first time riders bike it is a 750 CC motorcycle that is extremely powerful and for anyone who has never riden it's a no no to get on it and expect to ride away and be safe, if you take all the training that's available to you and spend the next 2 years on a smaller bike learning how to handle your self and it THEN you might be ready for this bike but until then your a statistic waiting to happen, look in your local news paper and count how many locals are dead due to traffic accidents then find out how many happen in your country over any given year and you will be astonished at how many there are. If that's a picture of your child your uing as an avatar then you should be walking away from this bike as fast as you can, I love bikes and they give me a thrill but you have other people who need you right now so don't walk away from this bike RUN!!

Your right of course but the police can't catch someone who just nicks your bike and strips it, what are the number on your bike? where do they sell the bits? and truth be told if you want a replacement part and good old EBAY has it at a knock down price then the devil in your head is going to say "that's cheap fuck where it comes from". Smart water is pretty good at making you bike identifiable and even the bits can be recognised but the real answer to your question is, if you leave your bike out in the road and just wrap a chain round the wheel it is going to vanish faster than a snowball in the desert. Ground anchors are ok for making it difficult to take your bike but they just dig them out of the ground and get a free anchor and chain to sell on. Basically what I'm saying is that it's down to you to make it as difficult as possible to have someone take your bike, a garden shed is no deterent to there arseholes so you have to be practical and fit alarms to your bike the shed and lights outside to drive them off, best of all is that nowadays you can buy a camera for a few quid that is movement activated and at least you will be able to see who took your bike and you have to give the police something to go on other than "My bike was nicked where is it?" Sorry if this sounds a bit negative but the only person who is concerned about your bike is you and so you must do all you can to make the sods go else where. Oh and fit a tracker to it as well at least you can tell the police where your bike is. Just read that over 100 bikes are stolen A DAY!! in the UK so a tracker seems like a really good idea they range from about £50 to £300, so if your bike is new then why not ask the dealer to supply and fit one for you after all if your bike costs about 5K then it's pennies really to keep it from getting taken and it's a good selling point for the next owner, the more of us that do it the less the thieves will take.

Hi Davie, You have to remember that back in the 80s most fuel injection was mechanical and not electrical so the problem was getting the buggers balanced ie fuel pressure versus fuel flow and most folks did not have the skill or tools to work it out, today it,s much easier to get the things to work properly without the need for a workshop and thousands of pounds worth of equipment, so if you don't mind pratting around for a few hours with meters and pressure guages then give it a go but I would suggest that you find a calm place in your head before you start as hitting it with a hammer will not make it fit or work better!! I had fuel injectors on my bonny PLUS a forced fuel blower and it worked like a dream most of the time but occasionally it would have a fit and squirt fuel at everything within 10 feet and fart like an elephant until the fuel ran out, those were the times when it was not cool to be a smoker!!

That's a nice little bike DT, you will have some fun with that, remember them from back in the day always had the smoker ring ding a ding noise just like the Ariel Arrow and such, lots of bits and bobs needed but that's half the fun, my mate had one as his first bike but the auto lube never worked on it so he just pre mixed it, to be honest they were a bit ahead of their time and folks never really understood them and treated them like Brit bikes. XJ750 Exhaust question and advice needed pleeeeease!

HI Davie. I have the SECA750 which is similar to yours and the headers are the only thing that can be a problem, the 650 ones are a slightly different shape/angle to the 750 ones but other than that they are more or less the same, if you make up a bracket for the rear mount on the expansion box (where it attaches to the foot rest mount) most of them will fit but might need a bit of fettling to get them just right, the 900 ones are numbered differently but went on to mine perfectly, if you check the numbers on the end of the header pipes you can see that they are only a few numbers different, looking at your bike it has the same expansion box as the one I bought off of ebay for my MAXIM which originally came off of an xj900 and that fit straight on with no problem at all except that the 4 way connector needed to be fiddled with to get it to seal properly, hope that helps a bit? -
Hi Ausbatla, Welcome to the YOC, I think maybe you have misunderstood Sacha's comment, she was just pointing out that we like to get to know our new members before they start asking questions and she was NOT having a go at you just pointing out that an intro makes things more friendly, if you want to stick around then good for you if not then we hope you find some like minded people that you can get on with, you have to remember that we get lots of ONE HIT WONDERS on here who rock up ask a question and then piss off never to be heard from again and we are just a bunch of guys and girls who like to ride bikes and help out when we can but mostly we like to see new faces and have a laugh. If your still upset about what was said then all we can say is sorry that you feel that way and hope you find what your looking for elsewhere. Ride safe.

Nice looking bike Jimmy but the rattle in the engine would make me think twice about it and at a grand it's a big gamble. As he says it MIGHT be nothing more than someting loose but if it's not then at the very least it will need a major rebuild. Your money so your choice but!!

Hi JM, Might be a good idea to do an INTRO first (new members) as some folks will not say much till you introduce your self. Their not grumpy (well some are but best not to dwell on that to much) but we do like to get to know folks first, make sure your not a one question wonder.

Hi Macca, Check the wires where they go around the head stock and back to the battery, you might have a trapped wire in the loom, it's either broken or worn through, also check your earth wires to make sure they are not covered in crud and have a good seating. Hope that helps a bit.

Hi Joe(?). Your not the first to ask this, the best answer any one can give you is to say try them all, that includes the ones that are NOT online (directline) being just one. Your best bet is to try to stick to bike insurers tho, as they understand the needs of riders better than most, they may not be the cheapest but they will know what to give you in the way of cover BENNETTS are suppposed to be a good company but they are quite expensive and at your age they all will be, try to get as much cover as you can afford for instance you don't need european travel but you might need cover for your kit (helmet jacket gloves boots) as these can add up to a tidy sum if they are damaged when you fall off. Not much help I'm afraid as to who is cheapest but hope some of this is of use, ride safe.

In the 1960s the first Hondas and Yams plus the odd Kwaka were pretty rare and being a brit bike rider at the time they were like the star ship Enterprise in comparison, they had electric starters lights that actually worked and wiring that had not been made out of what was cheapest and could be fobbed off on to brit bikers, I switched from a Bonnerville to a Honda and never looked back, don't be fooled by these people who say brit is best just try starting a bonny at 2 in the morning and then do the same thing with a Honda, I guarantee that if you want to get to work on time that the Honda would get you there and back with no fuss while the bloke with the Bonny is still kicking the bastard thing to get it to start. Yes I'm one of the old farts that actually used these things when that was all there was to be had and we couldn't get rid of them quick enough. Give me a choice between my old Bonny and my XJ and the XJ would win every time.

Thanks guys , should have said I have seen the bike just could not move it as it was welded to the ground by weeds and brambles and probably the odd field mouse and rat holding it down, love the lines on it even in this state but just not sure if I want to spend 2 grand on an exhaust and various other expensive bits, that's my question really, at what point is it just junk and not worth bothering with?

I have been offered a Duke 996 from a friend of a friend, and to be honest I know nothing of these bikes except that they are Italian and probably have the worlds worst electrics, it's been left out in this guys back garden where it has become the home for various woodland animals and the odd weed and bush growing through it for the last 3 years. He is going to give this thing to me as it is in a bit of a state, well it would be really as it's out in the heart of the cotswolds and the weather is anything but clement and 3 years of winter and rain have taken a toll on the various bits of plastic and other gubbings attached to it. It was running when he walked away from it and he says that all the stuff worked he even has all the manuals and the original bill of sale would you believe! it was 2 years old when he left it and it has about 12K on the clock, I was just wondering if it was worth taking on as my 2013 winter project or to run away laughing. Any thoughts would be gratefully recieved as I am totally in the dark on wether this thing is the deal of the year or a mill stone round my neck.
