VIN Number XVS650
Hello all. I wonder if any of you could help me please? Out of curiosity I put my vtn number, JYA4VR00000002807, into the motoverse decoder and it wasn't found. Reading various "help" articles didn't help either as they seemed to vary in what they thought was the correct way of reading it! The odd thing is, that the date code number on mine is 'zero' and according to available info it should be 1-9 or an 'x' but no '0'! It's not a matter of life or death, but could anybody make any suggestions where I could go from here? Cheers.

Whitney Houston
Everyone's a comedian these days. . Even the paramedic who was unable to resuscitate Whitney couldn't avoid the odd gag. . When he radioed for help, he said "It's Houston....we have a problem"

life in the early 60'S
Wonderful! Good to see the old gasometers again! I never managed to accelerate from a standing start without use of the twist grip either, Drewpy!

L-plate journey from Cheshire to Loch Ness and back
A valiant effort, Georgie! "When I were a lad....." we considered ourselves to be bold travellers if we managed to ride the 8 miles or so to the next village on our 125 Bantams and 197 (big engine that!) James.

XVS 650 Forks
I finally got round to setting up the forks to correct spec today and I think I've found out why they were all over the place! The bike has a screen which is attached by using the top and bottom yolk bolts. I suspect that whoever put it on in the past didn't realise that undoing these bolts would cause the tubes to move about, hence the problem! Funnily enough the steering is now a hell of a lot better!

XVS 650 Forks
Evening all! Yesterday I considered changing the oil in my forks as I am experiencing heavy steering when in traffic. Out comes the manual and when I have read it I go to the bike to weigh the job up. Now then, the manual tells me that both tubes should be exactly at the same level and level with the top yolk.My query is this. My o/s tube is about one inch above the yolk, and my n/s one about half an inch! Can anyone suggest why this might be the case? The bike is a 1997 with 7000 miles on it and from documents I have has been regularly serviced. Thanks chaps!

crazy sport
This gave me a flashback to the halcon days of the 60's! We used to spend Easter Monday watching the likes of Hailwood tearing round Oulton Park, then set off for Beeston Castle to watch the Hill Climb. Old Blaster Bates was there once, with rockets shoved up his exhausts to assist his ascent,. Unfortunately when he ignited them he got no propulsion and disappeared with a bang in a cloud of smoke! Happy Days!

xvs650 won't start!
Two most likely causes are 1) Your kick stand is in the down position, or 2) The kill switch by your right thumb is in the 'off' position. That should get you going!

650 Dragstar - just too darn quiet!!
I stand corrected !

650 Dragstar - just too darn quiet!!
If you want a deeper sound, then all you can do is get a better exhaust as Ttaskmaster says. Alternatively if you just want to change it from the current 'wussy whisper'drill it! I drilled 6x6mm holes and it sounds ok now!

Electrical system suddenly died
This sounds exactly like the problem I had earlier this year. The bike was completely dead, although a 12v tester across the terminals indicated everything should be ok. I checked all the usual suspects but everything was fine. In desperation I took the battery to an electrician mate of mine who has always been into bikes and he discovered that the battery, although showing the correct (ish) voltage, was actually putting no current out due to a duff cell. Got new battery and away we went, problem solved!! So, check out the actual current mate!

Dragstar
I'll keep on going, no danger! I'll remind you about the Thundersprint next year. Not a lot of people watch the racing, but it's worth joining the thousands milling about if only for the atmosphere!

I'll tell you what, bikes have changed a bit since my day! I used to go around marking my territory with little pools of oil (particularly when I had an Enfield!), not unlike the way dogs do when they cock their legs on every lamp post. I thought there was something wrong with this one, not a drop of oil leaks from anywhere ! I have heard that you don't even have to pay an extra penny now for a shot of Red X whenever you fill up, amazing!!!!
