Does the XT have a 12 volt battery? If so then 5.8 volts is very low. Does the horn work with the engine running and what is the battery voltage with the engine running?

I had a Givi 10.4 for a time. Very light, half helmet. Great fun and road legal but I don't know how much protection it would have given. I also still own an AGV Longway. This is a flip lid. I think it is great, especially for the summer. I use the flip closed through the lanes and then open around a ring road. It can be a little wind resistant however, when in the flip open position, make sure that the visor is closed. It is a snug fit on the front of the face but fine when you get used to it. You need to flip the front to put it on or off. It has a button on the inside of the chin guard that is easy to use with gloves on so no stopping to use the flip part. Great when filling up with petrol, just flip the front and there is no need to take the helmet off when paying. I think it is ACU gold standard as well - I think!

Full revs when slowing down Check the throttle cable is not sticking and that the carb slider is moving freely in the carb. Back brake As Airheads comments. Bad set up, contaminated brake shoes, very dirty. Best to clean the brake drum, change the pads and set them up correctly. Cheap to do. Wobble/vibration As Airheads comments. Check the head and wheel bearings. The trueness of the rim, the tyre and the tyre air pressure. Have a look here LINKY

If it is raining and cylinders drop it is usually a sign of plugs arcing out. I would agree with Blackhat and then check the plug caps. Are they a loose fit to the plugs? Are they a loose fit to the HT lead? Sometimes you have to unscrew the plug from the HT lead, trim a little off the lead, and then re-screw in the plug caps. Make sure that you do not trim too much so the lead no longer reaches the plug. Have the plug caps cracked or perished? Also check the coil earths.

"So,,, full choke on,,,,,, no throttle,,,,,try an start" Good advice from 2wheels. Always a good place to start. Especially the part about " no throttle". Unusually, the SV likes a little throttle to start when cold but none when warm.

I have been contracting at the same place for two and a half years. It suits me there TBH. Plus a 5 figure payrise. Is is a great ride in with some fantastic twisties - always a good way to start and finish your working day. Something I rarely have had as at times I have worked all over the country. It does help justify a bike. There are car parking spaces there (albeit that they cost £20 a month from your salary). I will ponder what do do with the cash but it was unexpected. Started the day still wound up about the outcome of a project meeting yesterday. Got a permanent job on promotion and a nice salary rise (I haven't had a "proper" job since 2000 as I normally contract) Came home to a cheque from the tax man for just under £1600. Very strange day!!

I would still have a pair. 36 years of riding having owned 1 pair of leather trousers for a short time.

This is very interesting topic. Can we also bring textile M/C trousers into it? I spent most of my youth riding in jeans. Although I came off a few times, I was lucky that I didn't have to scrub any gravel out of any open wounds. The worst I had is similar to Ttaskie's; over cooked it in London, came off, the bike spun on the footpeg and I slid about 25 yards on my front in a superman pose. I passed 2 bus stops and can still remember the people waiting for a bus watching me go past. When I stopped the loose change in my front jeans pocket (normal jeans) had got hot due to the friction and were burning my..............er...................well.................manhood. Not good. I have never liked leather jeans. I ride in textile trousers with armour but would still buy a pair of kevlar jeans, if only the top end of the market ones.

Strange they looked at the alternator unless the bike wouldn't start. I would get it home and check and test the system and the battery. There is a fault finding thread on the forum somewhere.
