Don't bother introducing yourself, just get straight to the point, why not! Are you a one hit wonder? (Get your answer and never come back.)

I'm sure, in fact I know, there are a lot of members on this forum who know the answer to your problem. But won't reply unless you have introduced yourself properly. e.g Who are you? How old are you? Male/Female? Where do you come from? What bike/bikes have you? (obviously a 98 xj600s) (same as mine) Interests? To appreciate why we get annoyed as MMR says. Should also add that this is the new member section an not the "HELP MY BIKE DONT WORK" section, say Hi and then post in workshop or people will get stroppy. Nuf said! Go to the General Area (Yamabyss) and look at the thread "SORT THE NEWBIES OUT!!!" If you want to become an active member of the forum and not just a "one off, help me I'm stuck I need help" You will get help and have a good banter with all the rest of us. I do know what the answer to your problem is, but I'm off to bed now. will have a look at your response tomorrow and possibly reply.
  10. I dunno DDT, I had my credit card stolen six months ago and haven't reported it stolen yet. Why?? Because whoever stole it is spending less than my wife.
  11. That just goes to show how good customer relations affect sales and to get customers to return. Only today I went to Brizzle to a very well known bike dealer, a very nice young lady took my inside leg measurements, and all I wanted was a pair of gloves.
  12. Didn't Robin Hood come from there, or is he now called Robin Bastard?
  13. I DON'T MEAN LIKE THIS Only registering yesterday, I thought I'd come back and fill you all in on why I ended up here. Long story short (that's a lie, I tend to bang on all the time I'm afraid) Turning 38 last week I decided to treat myself to an 86 DT 125 LC which is the bike I owned 20 years ago and what I passed my test on, something that I dare say most people on here can relate to. After looking on and off for about 18 months, I finally found a DT worthy of my pennies that wasn't a million miles away and hadn't seen the wrong side of the hedge a few times. Getting giddy on Ebay one night I put in a reasonable bid, had a can of Strongbow and then put in a higher bid and hey presto shes mine. Strongbow has a lot to do with the excess c##p in my loft nowadays! Anyway, during my period of light headed giddiness, I never noticed that several things were missing from the DT hence why I took it on myself to kind of restore her to a bit of her former glory but obviously not concours as I am neither a wealthy man nor that handy with the spanners. So long story short, I've registered as I dare say I'm going to need some help chaps and chapesses. I have more confidence than I did several months ago as my main bike developed a starter motor problem. Quote from Honda for £991 for the part and £65 per hour labour (mins 5 hours) encouraged me to have a ganders myself. A second hand part for £120, a haynes manual for £25 and about ten hours of my time and my pride and joy was back on the road so yes, I CAN DO THE DT!!!! I need several parts to complete the old girl so if anyone has any of the following lying around I'd be extremely grateful for your help. Left hand switch gear, number plate bracket, rear brake spring and the cover for the front disc. A shyster on Ebay promised me the lot then sold them to someone else grrrr. Obviously when I'm finished I'll have a few bits left over, they can go free to a good home, just pay me the postage. I'm currently taking the tank down to bare metal and respraying in Ford Diamond White and Ford Radiant Red. I know they're not original but I'm colour blind and thats as close as I can get!!!! If anyone wants to know anymore about me, my past bikes, hobbies etc, feel free to PM or email me direct at [email protected] I've not a lot to tell but I'll gladly share with anyone who will listen Take care all EFFING ELL!!!
  14. Hi Emma, not too bad an intro, could be better. Where are you from? How old are you? Interests? Are you a learner? We are here to help you, but, help us to help you.
  15. mike1949 replied to Late Starter's post in a topic in Yamaha Workshop
Why? I'd love to take my chain off and soak it in whatever to clean it. To take an endless chain off I think you have to remove the rear wheel and disconnect the swing arm? Late Starter, this is what this forum is about, we seem to go off in a tangent. I hope all this helps your original question.

When you swallow viagra you must swallow it quick, otherwise you will get a stiff neck. Also, did you here about the bloke who fell asleep on the beach and woke up as red as a beetroot? He went to the doctor who wrote him a prescription for viagra and calamine lotion. He said "I know what the calamine lotion is for, but what is the viagra for"? "It's to keep your bed sheets off of your body" replied the doctor.

That's great when you've got a chain with a removable link, but an endless chain isn't so easy to remove unless I'm missing something here?
  20. mike1949 replied to Late Starter's post in a topic in Yamaha Workshop
In some ways Paul I totally agree with you, I have tried cleaning with WD40 (good) "muck off" de-greaser, (not to good). but I do find Holts (bought in Halfords)chain de-greaser the best. As for lube, I've tried spray on lube, spray on wax, but at the moment soaking one of the wifes teatowels in engine oil seems to work as long as I do it every week bearing in mind the chain guard keeps most of the rain off. Even at my age I do value advice. Would WD40 be alright for chain cleaner and lubricant?
  21. mike1949 replied to Late Starter's post in a topic in Yamaha Workshop
Hello LS, maintaining your chain must be high up on your list possibly only second to changing engine oil regularly. I use Halfords chain cleaner and find it brilliant, then coat the chain with the engine oil recommended for the bike every week. if buying spray on chain lube/wax make sure it's ok to use with O.ring chains.(if your bike is fitted with one) As for other maintenance I strongly recommend buying a Haynes manual for your bike, at the front under routine maintenance it tells you what to do and when to do it i.e. every six months/500 miles. Costs about £20.00 but money well spent and will save you loads of money by doing it yourself.

You can seperate the plates very easy on yours. Put the bike on the centre stand, remove the oil filler cap, stand on the LH side of the bike, pull in the clutch lever and keep it in, lean over the seat and with a small but long flat bladed screwdriver insert the end between the plates and twist the screwdriver gently. Repeat on all plates. Don't forget to replace oil filler cap.

Hi casperj, welcome to the forum watch out for the grumpy old gits. Apparently I'm one of them. Seriously though, there is a lot of experience here, you've done the right thing by introducing yourself properly.
  25. What a load of rubbish!! It must be displayed. I have it on good authority (motorcycle cop) in the near future bikes will not be required to display the tax disc. but at the the moment you must.
