I've never had worn plates yet, my money will be on a new cable. it sticks and holds the clutch open. try adjustment first (its cheaper) with the correct gaps. on my xs its the engine side first, screw in the adjuster till it touches the rod, and back off 1/4 turn. 2 - 5mm clearance at the lever. That will do for starters

perservere, I think its getting a lot of hits ATM

RubyRubyRuby! to the form, keepig the bike clean will ensure its value and alert you to any potential problems

wheering? seriously, could just need the battery charging or it doesn't hold enough amps. if not that, the starter clutch is worn and the rollers need replacing.

A guy goes into the confessional box after years being away from the Church. He pulls aside the curtain, enters and sits himself down. There's a fully equipped bar with crystal glasses, the best wine, Guinness on tap, cigars and liqueur chocolates nearby, and on the wall a fine photographic display of buxom ladies who appear to have mislaid their garments. He hears a priest come in: "Father, forgive me for it's been a very long time since I've been to confession and I must admit that the confessional box is much more inviting than it used to be". The priest replies, "Get out, you idiot. You're on my side!"

I remeber my dad filling up the mini traveller, and going ape that it cost £5 for a full tank. £5 was all he'd say muttering as he drove off and us kids nose to the glass trying to ignore him, bless!

I'd get an NOS wiring loom, start looking now usiing ebay notifications. The rest can be cleaned refurbed as and when. don't forget, yamaha used some parts bins across the range in the 70's, so you may get switches etc off other era bikes. (I got xs1100 brakes on my 400) to the forum Pilger

Kin'ell OT! can't even go about your own business. I'm lucky in the fact I live in a cul de sac and have good neighbours opposite. no guarantee I know, but a bit more reassuring.
