  1. wasnt aware the classic minis had fuel filters :S, or fuel injectors... its a HIF144 Carb on a '92 Mayfair of that helps?
  2. Hey peeps I need to pick some brains... Basically my mini is feeling poorly, with the choke fully out and no throttle applied it revs its little 1275 head off, once warm it will run without choke but hesitates and splutters under load, this leads me to believe it's a fueling issue but where do I start? Also you can see the heat rising from the exhaust even at idle slim pretty sure it's lean... Any help appreciated, :/ Steve
  3. +1 for the old bit of carpet, also gives you something nice and softish to lay on for those fiddly jobs, easier to cut than plywood aswell tbh, as for the wood who cares if its a perfect rectangle? you're parking a bike on it, not serving the pope his breakfast from it
  4. But did you really need a test to find that out?
  5. i am no longer a teenager , i think i may have made a mess of my facebook page because i have woken up with a bad head, 8 notifications, an angry message from a girl ive never met and a severe feeling of regret
  6. It is my understanding that unless you are endangering lives (be it your own or that of another) they will wait until there is a safe place to stop nearby, be it a lay-by or sidestreet, before giving you the blues and twos. however, i vaguely remember seeing one of those car chase shows on TV and it mentioned something like they cannot prosecute you for failing to stop if they attempt to pull you over in an unmarked car
  7. + = And then i will never have any money to finish my projects
  8. Awh thanks guys, the girlfriend bought me a pint glass so now im'a have to go buy something to fill it with
  9. I just bought a 1982 DT50 because i missed my old DT so much... :3 i put about 12,000 miles on my old set of reeds, sold the bike with the same set in there aswell, they were hytec ones aswell i think...
  10. oh trust me seeing it in its post-restoration glory is something i cant wait for, i suppose part of the reason i took this project on is because if i bought a new bike i cant really see myself getting attached to it, i did get very attached to my DT and XJ600 because i took them to pieces many many times (there's only one way you can fit a DT50 into a nissan micra...) so the logic being if i buy a crap bike, break it down, restore it and turn it into a nice "new" bike i will enjoy it a lot more and it would mean a lot more to me
  11. Ah Ken, the look of the bike is what drew me to it, they are futuristic, full of angles and sharp lines, not like these curvy bubbley bikes that are being spewed out nowadays, same with cars tbh. Basically, the turbos were added to smaller capacity bikes in an attempt to rival the performance of 1000cc-ish bikes, but they were overengineered, expensive to buy, heavy and never did perform aswell as the larger bikes, people just didnt want to buy them and in the XJs' case production lasted from 1982-1985
  12. Very creative but bone chilling at the same time, great finds
  13. Hi everyone Would just like to share a link to the wings of freedom charity website, it's well worth a look and I know the chairman and some of the committee personally, basically it's a bird of prey Centre/hospital based just outside my hometown of Hungerford, they take the birds round to care homes, and schools so that disabled children can interact with the birds, www.wings-of-freedom.organization.uk
  14. I'm assuming you mean the cdi unit? (black box behind left hand panel), you should be able to get a used one from a breaker
  15. Add a mars bar to the bikes toolkit, if you have to wait hours to be recovered or have to push your bike to the next town it will not only provide morale but also stop you starving to death if you are there for a longish time
  16. yeah, even looking at the newly painted parts gives me a good feeling, yet two years later i have pretty much got the parts ready to reassemble and most of them have been sandblasted and painted
  17. Ah, but a good long-term project has all three of those
  18. Gonna try the toothpaste on headlights thing, for an advisory on the kia for misted lights EDIT: +1 for the toothpaste on headlights trick, takes a bit of doing though
  19. had that happen on my pre-div, good indication is to disconnect the cable assembly at one end and gently pull the inner spring out, if it comes out then its snapped, easy to find a replacement and easy to fit
  20. check your battery, check your fuses and then check for spark,
  21. is there a fuse for it? may be worth checking that, if you can find a wiring diagram then trace it back through the wiring loom, check for voltage at the plug where the pump connects, if theres nothing there keep moving back towards the ignition key (im assuming you have a multimeter?)
  22. its this new Blackberry, Autocorrect keeps giving me teacups, duck this thing in the air
