It happens when there is a build up of carbon in the exhaust. It blocks the pipe and spoils performance.
With the way a 2stroke opperates the exhaust gasses are extreemly hot. And loaded with unburnt fuel.
When you give the bike a good long run it can burn off. This comes out the tailpipe as glowing embers. With white smoke too.
My tdr did the same tge first time i rode it propperly. After around 45mins riding with a 600. My tdr started blowing smoke like a red arrow. Was fine afterwards.
Check the plug though. May need a decoke.
Me to Ddt. Bit bloody late for the recall though. Im long past any oil from sept 2012. Good or otherwise.
Asode from which once the oil light on the tdr stays on without flickering i can get 1L of oil in so i do. And junk the bottle right outside the store in their bin. Same as a lot of others i would think.
Lets get the stupid questions out the way first.
Have you counted up from the lowest nd down from the highest.
Have you checked the neutral light and its circuit.
Can you select all gears rocking the bike with the engine off.
Difficult to guess without spanners and its an expensive what if. The selector mech is behind the clutch And it could be an issue there.
Just odd that it rides ok.
True. I had the same hassle with norton and my sister. Both got refunded. My daughters stuff is on macafee now and my phone has avg.
Good enough to keep most out but a hardcore attack would defeat all of em anyway.
It always intreasts me looking at pictures of bikes that are older but from the same "mind" if you like.
Looking at the pictures of your engine you can see the basics of the later bikes appearing.
Subtleties like the neutral switch being by the chain. Later its moved out to the cleaner area on top. The lack of ribs and extra metal used in the cases. Bigger seals which are much smaller on later bikes. It facinates me.
Sorry i will get my anorak.
If you have been using it like that the clutch may well be done now anyway.
If you do buy one get the metal or "plain" plates too. If its been slipping that bad they will have warped and your new clutch wont last long.
Strange question.
For what its worth both of mine go within 2 or 3 kicks from cold and first swing when warm.
You can start the 250 with your hand on the kickstart. Not reccomended on the 175. Prob break your wrist.
Seeing as i have had my dt over 20 years its prob ok.
Its a bit of a guess.
Back in the day the greace monkeys (me included) were sticking jets upto 250 in for proper flat out screaming.
After taking the restrictions out. If im honest we ruined more than most as we screwed the power right up and caned em.
If yours takes off at 7 cleanly leave well alone and keep a weather eye on the plug colour.
Because with the valve pinned wide open the carb settings are wrong. Your going to have to put up with it.
At low rpm it should be flat and horrible to ride in traffic then at around 6k it should light up and make like the starship enterprise going to warp. Seriously the power will come in in a big wheelie inducing wallop. Its brilliant.
Dont need it.
With the galaxy note i can run all the forums im on together. At the same time anyway. I would be getting an app to do what i already do.
You need a decent ride somewhere. Something completely different to your normal trudge.
Get some faith back in the bike. Be more positive too. Esp as you want something italian. Crikey.
Close enough to see the student totty coming and going from that uni.
Lucky sod...
Mind i have delivered glassware to the su a few times and the students must be the most stupid, clever people i have ever met.
GET A BIKE MANUAL. Then read it.
Just ripping into it without knowledge will be the death of the bike and your enthusiasm.
If it sparks on the electric use that to get her to run initially. Those leccy starts are complex and expensive dont fuck with it if your not sure.
