  1. Dont bother. Dt 175 gearboxes are from the days of overengineering. Any reputable bike gearbox oil will be fine. You really cannot kill these gearboxes. Unless you run it bone dry maybe. Even then the fact that there are no plain bearings in there means even a little oil will keep it alive. I have been abusing mine for nigh on 30 years.
  2. Why is the black box on aircraft, orange. And the killer..... jaffa's . cake or biscuit.....?
  3. Im with DDT on this i use the forum and moderate entirely by phone. Pictures etc. The mobile site if anything is faster and more concise. As to posting in the wrong section. Just above the start topic button it shows what part your in. Just tap the yamaha owners tag at the top and scroll to whatever your flavour may be. If thats too tricky, the big white light on the bike is the front the red one is at the back....
  4. Ooh you jammy bugger. Needs abuse to really fly like most suzukis. Revs to around 15 k and the power starts at 11. Although a little heavy for the engine it makes a diamond first bike. Front brake is weak and the finish is poor. Wiring ok and basic almost a copy of the 600. Engine is bullet proof with decent oil. Small offs can tucker the frame if she lands exhaust side down 4 into 2 into 1 pipe works best not a 4 to 1. Robs what little torque there is. Grouch could fix em up with a manual. They are bare basic. Put it on a diet. Get the carbs (again basic) sweet then enjoy the sound of 14000rpm.
  5. Got mine. A tdr250. Said id have one when i was 17.Twenty five years later i wasnt dissapointed. Maybe a harris framed rd750 if i was pushed. I wouldnt ride it. Just listen to it lol.
  6. Heh i remember years back taking a mate of mine to margate from northamton. All was well till a set of roundaboutsaround 20 mile from margate. Now gone. The dosy fecker had fallen asleep. He weiged 18 stone and i weighed 12. I didnt know he was asleep so as i went for more exhaust scraping giggles he practically falls off. Wakes up in the process ans sits up. I had to force the bike like a wrestler to make it round. Very funny later. We still tell the story over a beer....
  7. Maybe all in the exhaust rinse ot out with pertol and see what bits you get.
  8. They already have. It wont start so the bits of ring have prob done their damage. The popping you mentioned before indicates an air leak. Like i said it should still run fine with just the top ring. Less power obviously but it should run.
  9. Rings are much harder so shatter with sharp edges so honestly i think its done the crank seals. An old dt125mx engine i bought ran without a bottom ring. On the pluss side. Set of rings. Crank bearings seals and a gaslet set will only be 70quid tops. You will lose more selling it busted. Only take a day.
  10. Do you not think you should spell the title properly or are we writing a xxx version.
  11. Dont want to dent your enthusiasm steve but i believe plastic/fibre glass tanks are not MOTable
  12. 2stroke 2stroke 2stroke......... Waaaaaaaaaaaaaap....

    Tennis elbow..

Well. Apparently i have been a propper bloke putting up with it which is part of my problem cos its made it much worse. There are any number of 'it worked for me' cures out there. I just have to start trying em. Something will work. Swapping the lever wont help as i will just get it in the other arm. If i want to ride i have to beat it somehow. At the moment the 7mile trip to work is too far. Most of the online threads have people complaining about it after riding to the nurburg or spa. I wish. The only way is up i suppose.
  14. It wont stop anything but its law and you cop for an on the spot pay then and there fine. Like needing to carry snow chains on a truck at all time. Even in summer. Or the old tir stuff. I bet mervin has a rare list of stupid cash generating laws.
  15. Come on noise its the kink of thing the uk should do instead of bending over and passing the vaseline. How many on the spot fines will there be. Far as their concerned its their country you want in you play ball or pay. Dont have a problem with that myself. Wish our lot would grow a pair.
  16. Seeing as i got foamy into it its an easy choice.

    Tennis elbow..

Thats what pissed me off the most with the doc. Locum i think. I told him i had optimised everything with the carpel tunnel experience. Moving the bars, levers etc to get the arms inline etc. Its one of the reasons i sold my suzuki. Thats why i feel there is more to it. I really think he hadnt the faintest idea about motorcycles.

Thats not too bad the trucks are auto. Pulling the curtain sucks. But hey. Could be worse....

    Tennis elbow..

You better believe it. I think its more than this poxy elbow stuff. I had 6 weeks using the car when the dt blew till the weather was good enough for the tdr. That should have fixed it already according to the docs theory. And grouch recons he has problems....

    Tennis elbow..

Well that was a waste of time. Apparently its golf elbow. Quite common just stop what makes it hurt and in 6 to 8 weeks i will be fine. So i explains the capel tunnel. Long time issue. Tried all the tricks to help then.' Oh maybe a support will help.' Halfwit. When i told him its worse on my bike. Which i use for work and pleasure. He didnt blink. Not for the next couple of months your not. I have made an appointment with a doc at the surgury i respect but i think modifying the bike is my only long term option.

    Tennis elbow..

As i understand it john its a parting gift from my old suzuki. Because of the tuning she had a bitch of a clutch. Really heavy. That and the vibes. Thing is most of the pains went when my carpel tunnel was done. But..... Turns out that was a stopgap. Downsizing to the tdr hid the issue. Now opening a pint of milk hurts and clutch work in traffic gets so bad i cant pull the lever. Fixes....... find out tomorrow And no its got fk all to do with tennis

    Tennis elbow..

Linking the dt brakes would just be a cable. Thing is the dt would not be spoiled by linked brakes like the tdr. Not sure how it works mot and insurance wise either. Need to do some checks i think.

    Tennis elbow..

Once i have been tommorow i will know more. Its really getting in the way now though.

    Tennis elbow..

Thats why i was thinking thumb brake on the front. Or linking front and rear on the foot lever but that would spoil the essence of the tdr. You can get dual levers too. Its a common mod on nabd bikes. Seen it plenty of times at the nabd rallies. Its more to see if i can ride with the clutch on my right. Cos thats ok Also whatever i do i need to be able to do to the dt and the tdr.
